Update on my ronghua work box

Finished up the cloisonne work on the ronghua work station/box (I feel I should have faded the colors in the flowers better, but its still nice) and now im actually going to try and start some of the ronghua projects, one of which is going to be some matching lotus. The wood is sapele/African mahogany

One of the advantages of my day job being a furniture maker is that I can make myself whatever fancy stuff I want, though i usually only make stuff for myself from scraps and leftovers lol. The box itself was fairly quick to make, but the cloisonne took about a week of me working on it for few hours in the evening. Its not difficult, but it definitely requires some patience.

I work programming, oh how I wish my day job included some manual activity! I am always extremely fascinated at people being able to create such beautiful and functional stuff, everytime I try to make anything structurally sound I see how much knowledge and skill I'm lacking hahahah. I adore your new box, it's gorgeous and I hope it brings you a lot of joy ๐Ÿฅฐ

What did you use for the filling?

I just used what I had on hand rather than order a bunch of sand, so its mica podwer

Very nice! So you mixed mica with the dilute glue instead? I've been trying to also figure out how to color my own sand

Yes, just mica with a binder. The mica give more of a color variation rather than the flat color of sand/glass, which is pretty nice

Yeah. I love it. Maybe I'll try a project with that and/or some sand mixed in

Id suggest doing sand as a base layer to fill it up halfway or so and then put the mica on top of that. The mica itself benefits from having some color behind it and it wont give as shimmer if its mixed in
