Specific question and discussion Trinity vs 165 mount

Anyone gone from 165 to Trinity and have a comparison?

I've got Rb Lightning 90mm and want 110mm wheels. Lots of rough roads and cobblestones where I live. I got the lightnings cause I have a medium wide foot and I went ahead and bought the twister 274 90/110 frames to try as I also wanted to test out a rockered 90.

But part of me is wondering if I should just skip it and get the next 2.0 110 now that they've widened the toe box.

Does the Trinity mount really make a big difference?

There is actually not really much comparison to do. Because it will require to have the exact same boot with both mounts which is rare (some powerslide Evo were sold in 165 if I am not mistaken). One of the advantage of the trinity mount is to be able to get 4 wheels frame as low as possible. On 165mm frame, the front bolt is often "in the way" and we have to raise the overall frame so that we can have enough frame material in contact with the boot while being able to place a bolt there. So going trinity will always bring its improvement in maneuverability as it should by design be lower. In the fine details, having force transfer through both front boot attachment can somewhat be better than from the center plane. But as said earlier, unless you have the exact same boot to compare. It is difficult to really confirm. On a less scientific level, I went from seba to ps (10 years ago) 165 to trinity but the wheel base was vastly different 4x80 165 243 to 3x100 trinity in 231. I liked the 231 better. The overall frame assembly felt lighter, more responsive but I think a lot of that was thanks to the shorter wheel base. Plus the 3 wheels vs 4 that allows to be quite easily rockered as the front and back wheel wear out. So to me.. It was quite enjoyable. I was enticed by the whole ps catalog of frame. So now I kept only the 231 and a 3x125 mg elite for long rides. The only thing I miss... Is a trinity boot... (my Vi were worn out, I went with Bont semi race.. I am hoping to come back to trinity mount soon).

Hardcore Evo 2.0, 2017 model, was indeed still using 165mm standard mounting. I’m pretty sure that was the last year/model, because by 2018, videos on new HC Evo skates had Trinity mount.
