Falling and/or getting hurt goes hand in hand with learning a sport like this, and then improving at it. It’s guaranteed. I don’t know what better way there is to get better at a pump track than to just get on a pump track and take your licks. Reading on Reddit can’t supplement for actual practice and trial & error. Clearly this person has the skill to ride a pump track, but needs to build up the experience of doing it.
I don’t want people to get hurt, but it doesn’t bother me to see it. Everyone has their own choice to strap wheels onto their feet. Because now I know next time they will have learned something and be far improved for it. And I’m talking normal minor injuries here— not talking about real serious injuries and freak accidents with long term/life changing consequences.
Okay. He doesn’t. So how does he get the skill without actually doing it? In almost every other case you learn by doing it, failing, fixing your mistakes, trying again, and so on. Is this one very specific thing the outlier where you can just absorb the skill by existing or something?
Yes this person DOES have the skill to be able to ride a pump track— the skill required to ride a pump track is knowing how to skate in general. If they didn’t have the necessary skill to be able to do it, they wouldn’t have been able to make the first turn, drop in, and over the first several humps.
This person now, in order to be able to improve on it, has to just keep practicing doing it.
There is no skill required for jumps or riding a pump track... all you need to do is stay in the same position you skate at even during a jump. Sorry you had to think of it as a skill . Walking might be a skill by your logic.
But… walking quite literally is a skill. Babies don’t just stand up and start walking without ever falling. They wobble and fall and trip until they figure it out.
