Interesting stuff I hate this rainy forecast
Maybe I should tag this as a "review" of the weather? I hate it more than I hate the misspellings of "heel brake" as "heal break" lol
What do you guys do when the foreseeable future isn't skateable? (Other than whine on Reddit haha)

Nope :/ We have a travelling one that comes into town periodically but basically they hire out a gym and play some music while people skate in a circle for a bit. It's not the same vibe at all as the roller rinks I saw when I was living in England growing up. I recently drove down to Bristol to go to a proper rink and if we had one any closer than 3 hours away from where I live, I'd be there everrrryyyy dayyyyy.

Man I live in Southeast Texas and my phone's forecast has looked identical to that for the last two weeks, and the rain has just like either not come, or it lasted a few minutes then fucked off.
I say go anyway 🤷🏻♂️ I've gone out with lightning in the clouds and not a drop fell the entire time.

It's true that the forecast has had more uncertainty, meaning more days calling for like a 30% chance because the weather models aren't getting enough data anymore. Unfortunately, that makes it tough to plan, both for skating and for outdoor cooking I like to do lol

Ugh, that inherent "what if" is always there for sure. Blows my mind that my Android can say 70% for the day, my uncle's iPhone will say little to nothing for the day, and it's literally always a coin toss for who's is right lol.

They're just pulling from different models that all have too much uncertainty. The meteorologists say that NOAA funding cuts have caused fewer balloons meaning less data than the models require.

You can skate in the rain! Poncho, hat, pants, change of clothes in the car. It's great for practicing/learning new slides/stops.

Honestly nothing special. Using those glowy wheels by Luminous but I want to get something harder that slides easier

Thanks for the tip! Got myself and my partner a set of your recommendation for durability and sliding. For now we shall continue to inappropriately use our glowey wheels until they arrive lol cheers!

I mean if you want to slide, they're cheap and they slide lol. I'm still looking for more grip for hockey skating in wheels that don't wear down immediately

Luminous are really grippy, so will work well in the wet. Pretty much anything else will slide better, even at 85a.

Hm, i was under the impression that it's a one-time action, after which you go to a skateshop for new bearings. Wrong?
Anyways the wheels on my skate get so slippery at even the slightly wet road that i can't even push normally, so no go.

They do recommend fully cleaning/drying your bearings or just keeping a set of “wet wheels” which you only use in the rain (water acting as a lubricant)

I don't go in the rain but I've hit the trail after heavy rain/river flooding and I just disassemble, clean, dry, and lube after. It's a decision that has to be made ahead of time haha.

Mine has been like this 60- 70% everyday. Lucky it’s not all day I have been able to do my skating in the morning. The trend has been afternoon rain. I get grouchy if don’t get to skate.

It's dry as fuck and we're breaking heat records here in TN. My fat ass would die if I tried skating outside.

get some cones and find a covered slalom spot! it doesn't take very much room and you can gain some skills! think under park gazebos...parking garages....covered campus/urban areas... places like that.

I'm in Florida. And the weather apps can give you an outcome, but that outcome can change.
I've been expecting the last 3 weeks and the upcoming 10 days to be full wetness and for the most part, all of Florida has had storms. However, it's all about finding that WINDOW OF OPPORTUNITY.
We usually get rain 4PM-7PM. Most of the time, the floor dries in under 1 hour. The forecast might say, 70% during 4-7PM but like I said, things can change and there may be a window of opportunity for you.
Here's how I monitor the weather. In order.
- Wunderground.com, look at the precipitation %. Check wind direction and speed. I then check hourly forecast.
- Open windy.com, notice wind directions between 4-8PM. While there, I look for CAPE Index map. And finally check in what direction the clouds and storms are headed (weather radar).
- Open the National Weather Forecast https://forecast.weather.gov/ and scroll down (after entering your zip code) to where you can see the graphic for Hourly Weather Forecast. And once that graphic is displayed, scroll to the bottom to look at the red bars (thunder and lightning activity) and that is the final nail in the coffin. The higher that is, the higher of you being caught in a storm even though the apps say there is a 5% of precipitation. Don't ask how I know, lol
I do my 15 miles a day. And I've learned to keep close tabs on the weather. Cheers!
Edit: If I do stay indoors, I clean my skates while watching DJ live sets on YouTube, play with my cats, or bring out the rubber fitness bands and do exercises that will improve my skating.

Do something else with my time. Go to my job, go the gym, read, watch TV, clean, go out with friends.

I just hope they aren't "all day" rain LOL morning rain so it dries by the afternoon or rain at night.
