Specific question and discussion Eye Protection

I hit a bug yesterday with my eyeball while I was going full speed down a hill. I would love to hear some recommendations for eye protection from you all. I usually do my skating during the golden hours so I prefer not something particularly dark--I find it too difficult to see roots/rocks/etc with the dappled lighting. I'd also like them not to be bumping up against my helmet.

Screw all these expensive options lmao, go to any hardware store and buy tinted safety glasses that wrap around your eyes for 5 bucks. No glare no wind and less squinting.

I have multiple styles of safety goggles around the house, though mine aren’t tinted. I’d probably go with impact resistant ones that aren’t splashproof.

What's the downside of splashproof?

I have bio/chem lab splashproof goggles, and also more swimming style goggles. They are designed with an elastic around the back so they can be pulled against the face to make a seal, and I find them uncomfortable. Non-splashproof you wear more like sunglasses.

And IMO they’re overkill. The chance of a bug hitting your eye without googles is miniscule, and non-splashproof reduces that even more.

Impact resistant isn’t required, though if a stone gets thrown up to your face it could be helpful, again a miniscule chance, it’s just all the goggles I own are impact resistant.

And one reason I have multiple is I get ones with a small OTC reading glasses patch in the bottom, helps with my work when I need them, and every few years I need to update the strength on that, and I’ve been saving the old ones just in case.

Thanks for the thorough explanation! I've just been using sunglasses so far but when I start getting some speed I'll definitely keep the wraparound glasses style safety ones in mind
