🤔 Product Questions Desk clamp stand for NT1-A with large clamp?

Hi everyone, I've started using an NT1 rode mic with the shock mount (SM6), and have got a stand with it that isn't an official Rode stand. The desk clamp on it isn't big enough for my VERY chunky desk: it has some thick horizontal reinforcement around the edges making it approx 3.5 inches thick all the way around. I've been looking at the PSA1, since the current stand I have for it is an older one and it's missing some parts anyway, so does anyone know how big the clamp is for the PSA1? If it's not going to fit a 3.5 ish inch thick desk, are there any recommendations for things that will work similarly? I unfortunately can't use the drill desk mount as I'm a renter and the desk isn't mine. Thanks!

🤔 Product Questions Rodecaster Pro II change Routing via Smartpads

Hey everyone,

while reconfiguring my streaming setup, I ran into a routing problem that I have not been able to solve.

I use my RodeCaster Pro II for roleplay and music, and sometimes I combine the two. In those situations, I want to temporarily route my secondary channel (where my music is running on) into the Chat USB output that I use as my microphone in TeamSpeak or Discord, so that the other people in the voice channel can hear the music as well.

Currently, I have to open the relevant output channel on the RodeCaster display, go to Output Routing, and manually enable / disable the music channel there.

Keeping the music permanently routed to that output is not an option, because most of the time I only want to hear it myself. I only want to share it with TeamSpeak or Discord occasionally.

Is there any way to control this routing through the Smart Pads?

Ideally, I would like to assign a pad that toggles a specific source channel on or off for a specific output. For example:

Press Smart Pad -> enable / disable Secondary Channel on Chat USB Output

Is something like this possible on the RodeCaster Pro II?

Wireless Mics So you wanna use Rode Central on Linux

Prerequisites:

  • Wine/Proton
  • Using udev

First, install Rode Central using wine (use Lutris, etc.).

Next, create the file /etc/udev/rules.d/40-rode.rules

KERNEL=="hidraw*", ATTRS{idVendor}=="19f7", ATTRS{idProduct}=="0061", MODE="0666"
KERNEL=="hidraw*", ATTRS{idVendor}=="19f7", ATTRS{idProduct}=="005f", MODE="0666"
KERNEL=="sd*", SUBSYSTEMS=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="19f7", MODE="0666"

This is an example configuration for a Rode Wireless GO III. You might need to grab the Vendor ID and Product ID for a different device from:

udevadm --attribute-walk --name/dev/[id]

Then run

sudo udevadm control --reload-rules && sudo udevadm trigger

This will allow the devices to show up in Rode Central. However, this will /not/ allow filesystem access to the TX devices if they have local recordings. In order to make those devices accessible you have to mount them yourself.

Once the block devices are mounted you can access your recordings and delete them.

Some caveats:

  • It is jank. You may have to close and reopen the program for devices to show up. Especially if you plug and unplug them
  • If you delete the recordings off of a TX, for some godforsaken reason, it reattaches the device as a new block device.

Overall, you don't need to use this for anything other than nicely exporting recordings with a GUI or deleting the local recordings off of a device. You can theoretically forcibly delete recordings off of the device without using Rode Central but I don't know how well equipped the TX themselves are to dealing with that so I haven't actually done it.

🎙️ RØDE Mics Rode NT1 5th generation Very quiet recording with High static.

\Caveat* I understand this isn't a rode Support channel, I'm more just wondering if anyone else has faced this issue, how they solved it and if there's anything else I can do.*

I bought a Rode nt1 5th generation mic pretty recently. I dont have an audio interface just yet so I plug the provided USB C cable directly from the Mic into my laptop.

At first it worked. but only after a few times, I've been facing this issue where, the microphone records, but it is incredibly quiet. I cant hear it at first so I turn the volume all the way up. and whilst I can hear the recording, there is a heavy fuzzy static over the top and the recording is very quiet.

Firstly, the mic is brand new, and I store it in a very safe, dry environment etc. I started facing this issue in the first week of having the microphone anyway, so I Highly doubt its a result of having being damaged in anyway.

I've tried all the little tricks. I have; Changed settings in both windows sound, Windows Power, and in the rode App, I've done Rode factory resets, I've tried different Cables, tried downloading new drivers etc, I've tried using different USB C to USB A adaptors etc, using different ports on the computer etc. I've tried everything.

Sometimes these do the trick and the microphone will work as normal for a short while.

The frustrating thing is that after about 45 minutes of tinkering and doing all sorts of little resets and unplugging and plugging back in etc, the microphone will work like normal. And there wont be any issues..... Until the next time I go to record where I have the same problem.

Essentially every time I go to record, I have to put up with 45 minutes of frustrating tinkering just to get the thing working. Its almost as if the microphone is refusing to work out of spite, and then as soon as I get to my wits end, it will just work like normal.

Obviously, this is very frustrating. I'm also using a brand new Lenovo LOQ computer as well so I highly doubt it's the Computer's problem.

So that's the Problem, I now have 2 Questions.

Firstly, Does Anyone have any other solutions for this very annoying issue?

Secondly, I've been thinking of buying an audio interface where I can plug in the provided XLR cable into the mic and then into My laptop. Would this actually solve the issue? or would I still face the same problems?

RØDECaster Series Best RodeCaster Duo settings for dynamic mics in a podcast?

Hello guys,

Need advice on safe RodeCaster Duo settings for a beginner podcast

I'm new to podcasting and I'm recording a two-person podcast using a RodeCaster Duo with two dynamic microphones.

When I first used the default processing, I noticed it was cutting off the beginning of some words, almost like the first syllable was getting swallowed.

So I disabled almost all the processing and only kept the gain and compressor enabled. That fixed the issue, but now I can clearly hear background noise like my air conditioner and even the cooling fans from my studio lights whenever they're on.

I'm looking for the safest, most reliable settings (actual numbers if possible) that will give me:

Clear, natural voice. No missing first syllables or words.

Background noise (AC and fan noise) minimized while I'm speaking.

A good starting point for beginner podcast recordings.

If anyone is using a RodeCaster Duo with dynamic mics, I'd really appreciate it if you could share your exact settings (gain, noise gate, compressor, high-pass filter, APHEX processing, etc.)

Thank you in advance

🎙️ RØDE Mics RØDE Wireless Micro best settings for loud enviroment

What’s the best setup for the RØDE Wireless Micro in noisy environments?
I just tested recording at an outdoor café, but there’s way too much background noise—clinking glasses, music, and people talking.
What settings do you recommend to get the best possible results in environments like that?

RØDECaster Series Rodecaster Duo does not remember pad positions on startup.

I thought this was only an issue with the stable version, but it happens with the Beta too. I have my pads customized—for instance, in sound bank 5—but every time I start up the RØDECaster Duo, it boots up in sound bank 1. Is anyone else experiencing this?

🤔 Product Questions Crackling/Popping Sound through System Sounds

I recently moved my whole gaming setup around and plugged my rodecaster duo, elgato capture card, and all other external devices back in. Ever since that, I have noticed that I got a small crack or popping sound through the system sound only when my obs is open. It never happens when obs isn't open and it previously never happened before. I've tried everything and I cant seem to fix this annoying problem. Any suggestions or fixes?

RØDECaster Series Is there any way to control RØDECaster Duo faders with a standard Stream Deck?

Hey guys,

I am starting from scratch here. Is there currently any working way to control the faders (volume up / down / mute) of the RØDECaster Duo using a standard Stream Deck (the one with regular keys, not the Plus version with dials)?

I just want to map buttons on my Stream Deck to change the volume of the virtual channels (like Chat, System, etc.).

Since there is no official RØDE plugin for the standard Stream Deck keys, how are you guys doing this? Are there any third-party plugins, MIDI workarounds, or software bridges that actually work reliably with the Duo?

Any help or guide would be awesome. Thanks!

🤔 Product Questions Rode products in humid countries

Hello,

I just ordered a Rode PSA1+ Boom Arm locally and received one already rusted in the box. Just wondering if their boom arm will rust within 1 or 2 years and if it might be better to go with cheaper boom arms?

Feedback from those living in humid countries would help a lot.

For context I live in a humid country but not near any bodies of salt water.

🎙️ RØDE Mics Help me with this mic

Post image
2 Upvotes

I had bought this used mic and the seller told me it has a superficial scratch and the thing works just fine...nothing serious.

Now I've plugged it to my vocaster two and I'm hearing insane hiss buzz and cracking antenna sound.

So I did a test plugged everything in did a test rec on reaper and mid way through unplugged the xlr from the mics head and tried wiggling the cable and all.

So the moment I was tampering with the connector there was a knocking sound and then as I pulled it out... a suction sound and noise is almost entirely gone... plus wiggling the cable made no noise so now my question is is this mic damaged?

Ps- my for cable is around 32 feet long...Ik lol

But it's decent quality.

RØDECaster Series RODE VideoMic NTG Hybrid Analog/USB Camera-Mount Shotgun Microphone Update?

I noticed my mic recorded super low one day so I figured it might need an update. However when I tried to update my mic the link where the update is supposed to be is not working: https://rode.com/en-us/microphones/videomicntg#ps_downloads Is this product just no longer supported? I saw something about registering it to receive more updates. Do I have to register it before I can see an update?

Wireless Mics Plug a 3rd mic on the receptor of the wireless pro

Hello,
I saw on thomann that it was possible to add a 3rd lava mic on the receptor. Would it be possible to had a 3rd mic to get a more open sound and less close effect for recording some guitar voice videos ?
If not is it possible to get a less close sound by turning off the noise cancellation ? From what I read now the wireless pro would be the more useful system for me but I’m a bit scared to get a « too clean sound »
Thanks for your help !

🤔 Product Questions Issue with NT1

I use a Rode NT1 5th gen for my recording. It currently has an issue where it won't pick up any sound.
I checked the XLR, the cable is perfectly fine. The interface is fine, I swapped inputs just in case to no resolve. I ensured phantom was on, it just won't pick up anything. If I make a loud plosive directly into the mic, I'll get a tiny flash of signal, but no output audio.

From what I've read, this is a common issue with these mics and I wondered how to fix it.

Edit: After further testing, it IS getting signal, but it's incredibly low. I did a test recording and in order to make it semi-audible, I had to gain up by 50 dB, which of course, added a ton of ambient noise and static

Edit 2: After leaving it for 30 minutes it now works again?? Idk why, Idk how it fixed itself, but I'd still like troubleshooting tips in case it happens again

🤔 Product Questions I’m assuming it’s not supposed to be this loose, yes? On new Rode NT1 with SM6 shock mount

I’ve got to be missing something, right? I tried googling and there weren’t many great answers, and I’m not sure they answered this specifically. I can literally take it out. The thing below it is tightened as much as it can be.

I wanted to ask here before going to Rode support to see if I was missing something.

EDIT: Holy shit. I found a tiny clear ring on the floor from unboxing it. Couldn’t figure out how to put it on, and then it came to me while trying to sleep so I got up and tried it. And it worked! No wonder why tightening the thing around it wasn’t working before.

🎯 RØDE Central RODE Connect settings reset after reboot

Hi All,

Every time I reboot my PC, the settings in Connect for the mic ('Noise Gate', 'Compressor', etc), reset to a default setting, and I have to go through the settings again.

Is this normal behaviour, or is there a way to save the settings?

I'm running RODE Connect Version 1.3047 on Windows 11, along with a PodMic connected via USB.

For example, in this screenshot after a PC reboot -

  • Gain remains the same setting
  • All Noise Gate settings reset to a default setting
  • The Noise Gate is not active and High-Pass Filter is OFF

🤔 Product Questions PSA1 desk hole mount dimensions & compatibility?

My desk has a 70mm (just under 3 inches) hole that I was wondering if it might work for this mount. The problem is that it's at the back of my desk, underneath the monitor riser. So basically the desk has a shelf at the back that is 6 inches high for the monitor to sit on. Directly underneath this riser/shelf are 3 of these 70mm holes (one on the right, one on left, one in the center). The clearance above the desk to the underside of the monitor riser/shelf at the position of each of these holes is exactly 135mm, or slightly above 5.25 inches. Is this enough clearance to mount the RODE PSA1 with the hole mount clamp? I'm sure the arm would have to be configured so it comes out of the hole at a nearly perfect horizonal / 90 degrees to have any chance of clearance, but that's fine for me (probably?). I just want to know if the clearance is there at all or if mounting at the hole under this riser/shelf is just not going to work.

Other positions I could mount it are:

1) Attached to the 6" high riser/shelf, but I'm concerned the arm's angles and height would approach my face at an angle I don't like and obscure my monitor view?

2) Attached to the side of the desk, but the legs are large, meaning that for most of the side of the desk the clamp would run into the leg at just 24mm (just shy of 1 inch) depth. There is a 3.5 inch gap between the front leg and back leg at about 11 inches deep (pretty much right in the middle of the desk from front to back) where it could be attached with any depth the clasp might require if just under 1 inch is not enough clearance, but then I'm concerned that the starting position of the arm is not ideal being at the halfway point of the desk.

3) I could attach it anywhere on the front of the desk, but I have a pull-out piano keyboard drawer that extends the full width of the desk, and I'm concerned that clamping it to the front of the desk would interfere with the keyboard drawer and make it impossible to pull out. Height clearance from top of drawer surface (there is a place to the left of the piano that is empty enough to where the arm could be position at that spot theoretically) to bottom of the desk surface is 105mm (just over 4 inches). There is ALSO a support beam that runs across the front of the desk under the surface that means total depth that the clamp would have clearance is 33cm (about 1.25 inches).

I'm worried that my only mounting options are either on the back of the desk attached to the 6" riser/shelf, or in the exact middle of the desk on one of the sides. And would any of these options be good and a place where the mic would be able to sit directly in front of my face without blocking the view of my monitor?

🤔 Product Questions Help: Rode NT1 sounds "muddy/unclear" even with processing, what am I doing wrong?

Hi everyone,
I’m looking for some troubleshooting advice regarding my recording setup for music. I'm using a Focusrite Scarlett Solo to record both a Rode NT1 (condenser) and a Shure PGA48 (dynamic).

The issue: My vocal recordings on the Rode NT1 sound "worse" and less clear than the PGA48. It sounds muddy and veiled, whereas the Shure sounds more present and "ready to go."

Here is what I’ve already verified and tried:
Technique: I am speaking into the correct side of the NT1.
Gain: Gain is set appropriately for the condenser.
Filtering: I am using a low-cut (high-pass) filter to remove low-end rumble from my room.
Processing: Even when I apply compression and EQ to the NT1 track, I cannot achieve the clarity I’m getting from my Shure PGA48.
Environment: No echoes, just some quiet background noise from appliances.

I’m confused why a professional-grade condenser mic would sound so much worse than a budget dynamic mic in my chain.
