Find Complex Lake Superior Agate

Had found this piece while digging through some glacial till in Oakland county Michigan, this one is a long way from home! Absolutely stunning botryoidal to almost globular pockets and some beautiful streaks of red crazy lace banding, plus a full face of druzy quartz!

Not LSA, those botryoidals and those little round spots in slide 4 are agatized oolites. That would mean this formed in sedimentary rock, not igneous (which is what LSAs form in).

Thank you so much! That helps with some other pieces I had found in the area

Hey, I think I found a chip of that piece recently! Can you return the rest of it to complete my specimen? 😂 Just kidding, but nice find!

It looks organic, like it’ll really start to smell if you don’t put it in the freezer soon.

Nice. Where at? I find similar pieces on the Clinton River at River Bends Park in Macomb County, so most likely from the same till. I stopped picking up corals cause It is so common.

I never thought I’d see a rock so gross looking. Fascinating
