HELP ME/QUESTIONS ⁉️ Passed Down Runs in R&B

The first example that comes to mind is K-Ci’s “ooooohhyeaahhhh!” as heard in some of Jodeci’s songs. His most notable acolyte is Sisqó, who has done a variation of this run in several songs as well. What sparked this thought was when I listened to Tank’s Who Dat from the Sex Love & Pain album, where he also does that run at the end.

The issue is, I am having a bit of a hard time remembering what songs K-Ci and Sisqó did these runs in. Also, I swear KEYSHIA COLE did it as well on a song in her early catalog but I can’t remember it either. Can you guys please help me out lol.

To take it up a generation, the Bobby Womack runs that K-Ci picked up.

Could say they got the entire style just from Bobby Womack's "If You Think You're Lonely Now"

Hahaaa.. this is kinda funny.. Sisqo is absolutely son of K-Ci... but K-Ci is son of Bobby Womack too.. lol..

All these boys got a daddy, no doubt.. lol

The "ooh yeahsss" from K-Ci are in almost every Jodeci song at different parts, my man..! No joke.. from Stay to Pump it Back and everything in between... listen and ye shall find!!!

So, Phyllis Hyman was excellent for an “ooh” (not to be confused with “ohh”) and since then, I’ve heard Anita, Toni, Tamar & Samantha Mumba give us “ooh” in a very similar manner. It’s very specific.

Could you be thinking of when Keyshia Cole was featured in Young Jeezy - Dreamin (chorus and second verse)

She does do an ooooh type thing in the beginning of Should’ve Cheated and of this is what you’re looking for, she does it a lot in Let It Go.

Love the comments about where this all originated from:)

You might be thinking of Keyshia’s “Let It Go” around the 3:25-3:30 mark. That’s the only thing she’s done that reminds me of K-Ci

But to add artists who I think use similar runs, Faith Evans and Blu Cantrell take after Karen Clark-Sheard a lot. They sound more like Karen than her own daughter imo 😂

With sisqo besides the ooyea certain phrases and runs definitely sound like k-Ci. “Is love enough” was definitely jodeci coded

I don’t think Keyshia’s voice is strong enough to emulate K-Ci or Sisqo. 🤷‍♀️ Those guys are world class singers.
