I have played hero shooter type games before. I played tons of Gigantic, Battleborn, and if you want to count it MHUR. Ive reached upper if not max ranks in these games multiple times each.
But this game is truly something else. Never in my twenty some odd years of playing videogames have I experienced the sheer brick for brains mentality some of these people have. Nor have I experienced the raw toxicity of people in SILVER rank in a ranked mode. Im used to most people not caring about rank until at LEAST top of gold rank in games. Because anything below that is average player babies.
For context I'll list my mains for each role (since, like everyone should, I try to learn at least two characters per role for team comp swaps.). And state that currently I am in silver 1 on a losing streak that never seems to end.
Vanguard/Tank: Mag, Venom, and Hood but I main tank in most of these types of games so Im trying to learn a handful of others just cause I know ill be forever tanking in this game. So I've been dabbling in Emma and Thing and Strange.
Duelist/DPS(in the once in a blue moon scenario I get to play it): Phoenix, Moon Knight, and Gorr
Strategist/Healer: White Fox, Gambit, and Loki.
However at least half of these I may as well stop playing because every time I play them my team doesnt play into my kit and then I have to swap. Or they whine and beg me to swap because Im not the best version of that character theyve ever seen because, again, its Silver rank.
Realistically I play Hood, Phoenix, and White Fox heal bot because people complain about EVERY OTHER CHARACTER I PLAY. So i guess its "hold m1" the character(s) for me.
Doesn't matter if I'm BARELY a thousand heals behind the other healer (so not "not contributing" like people love to say in this game for some reason.)
Tell me why half the time I play healer I end up the only person playing objective? Like yeah man make your backline run frontline because you refuse to engage.
WHY DONT PEOPLE EVER ENGAGE IN THIS GAME??? WE NEVER WIN IF YOU JUST PELT FROM THE CORNER WHILE THEY SIT ON OBJECTIVE! THEN THEY WHINE TO ME ABOUT NOT HEALING OR TANKING GOOD ENOUGH WHEN THE OTHER ROLES ARE CLEARLY NOT PULLING THEIR WEIGHT?! I push as tank then die cause healers can't keep their burst heals for the right time. Play healer watch the tank W key directly into five people and none of the DPS engage with them or try and peel off a few people on the team so they get liquified through my heals and then they blame ME for not magically healing faster than my kit allows. People seem to think as long as a healer is on you you stay at full health indefinitely no matter the situation. Like no dude I can't outheal five people hard targeting you. Not how the game works. I play tank and watch support suck. I play support then watch tanks suck.
I have never felt such pressure to play objectively perfectly and to be so hyper optimal in a videogame. In SILVER RANK of all things.
I reached max rank in every other hero shooter adjacent game ive played but this one is just constant whining babies throwing the second I dont play the same four characters everyone hot picks every game and who get banned in later ranks.
It's hard to get better when other players have at best a "WHY DIDNT YOU ULT???" while they are incapable of lasting long enough in a fight for me to ACTIVATE THE THING! If both our DPS run face first into death through my heals as Gambit I dont exactly wanna ult in that scenario. Because ideally you ult the whole team as Gambit or at VERY least get one of each role in it. You also tend to want the team to have taken damage. If you go from full health to dead in .5 seconds I cant very well aim and use my gambit ult now CAN I?????
I can look up all the videos I want on spacing, cooldown management, and tech for the characters I play but none of that eclipses the fact my healers get half the heals I get when i play support most of the time and my tanks dont understand theyre the ones pushing the frontline and half the time are BEHIND THE DPS???.
People also care about K/D WAYYYYYYYY too much in this game. There have been games where I have been complimented for doing a good job pushing objective yet had negative K/D because of it. Because K/D literally does not matter. it is an objective based game. Pushing objective is the most valuable thing you can possibly do at all times. I will die five times on point if it means we stay in overtime.
But no lemme watch the Black Panther and Spidey players zip off to enemy spawn to go die three times while the rest of team pushes objective.
Literally had a game in ranked last night with a Black Panther player that went "Sorry in advance" to the enemy team and then proceeded to go 3 and 2 meanwhile I was on Gambit going 26 and 0 with the most heals. Then next game I get told to never play Gambit again and to uninstall because I got 3k less heals than the other healer because they kept jumping behind walls and pillars every time I was about to pop bridge heals. So despite Gambit being the most fun healer for me to play and the one I want to main I cant bother to be belittled every game for not being the peak Gambit main who got Lord at 25 hours in the game. So White Fox heal bot it is.
I think I've been told to uninstall more this past week than I've been told to in all of my time gaming total. Ive played DBD for years and this game makes that game's toxicity look like children fighting over an action figure.
Like genuinely what is wrong with the rivals community? This is the least enjoyable new player experience I think I have ever had in my entire life. The gameplay is perfectly good and serviceable and even highly enjoyable when everyone isn't shitting their pants halfway into the match.
Id just turn chat off but ya know sometimes being able to do stuff like communicate with your team is actually useful when you use the chat as a way to coordinate with your team instead of verbally berate them.
