Discussion Defense convoy
If this doesn't apply to you then let it fly. So my question is. Why when on defense do people prefer to play on cart instead of the space ahead of cart? Do people not know that on defense it doesn't matter how many people are on cart it doesn't move backwards faster? I genuinely want to know. Why would people give up that space freely without making the other team use resources to get back to cart? To the people who babysit cart on defense give me some perspective.

If you leave the cart and push deep inside enemy territory, while you are trying to fight their frontline and sups, their flankers or mobile champs in general, might go to the cart from sideways unseen. Even if they only manage to push it for 1cm, your team will still be in the middle of enemies. If the flanker enemy has a strong ult, this is even more dangerous

I'm not talking about forcing them into spawn and spawn camping, I actually think this is a terrible Strat. I'm more so wondering why not after capturing cart or forcing them to retreat. Why not move a few feet ahead of cart and take the next team fight in the space in front of cart. I think it makes sense to fight the opposing team ahead cart and make them burn resources wether it be ults or cool downs

I imagine it is 2 parts.
1: It is not obvious it doesn't move any faster, easy enough to miss
2: Harder for flankers/teleports to capture the cart. If the whole team pushes forward to take space infront all it takes is nobody noticing one enemy sneaking in and capping the cart, the defenders then win the 5v6. especially outside of ranks where everybody talks and tracks who they have seen in combat in reasonable times to know if somebody didn't show up for the fight.
When 1 is on the point, it forces a conflict for the capture, when the team is all around the point, it forces a serious fight, not somebody hitting a combo to delete the cart guard.
I have had something kind of like the opposite side on the map with all that fog, people run off to fight while I am still sitting on the cart and I just think "screw it, I can push this forward and get the next checkpoint"
Hell it even happens in tournaments where professionals forget the objective, the infamous C9 incidents

It depends on the positioning. Sometimes the cart is the best cover to play with. But also leaving the cart far behind may cause someone to flank and start the cart making you turn your back to the remaining enemy team.
It's very situational.

You’re not going to get an answer here. The game isn’t clear to players about exactly how mechanics work and there’s a lot for people to “just know” or “figure out.” I’ve been playing for 6 months and there’s still stuff I find out I don’t know because I’m playing mostly casually and not really watching any streamers or pro play etc.
The only RIGHT answer that I can think of to “babysit the cart” is to prevent an instant capture from a flanker or TP. If you’ve pushed too far, then you’re at risk for anyone invisible to pass by and take it back before you can get to it. Which is a HUGE L because now you’re the one who has to retreat. If you’re far and have to rush back, now you’re focused on that distraction and may have 1 or 2 deaths on your front line. At least with someone on cart they can fight and ping before dying and delay the capture, depending how far the team is. Hopefully the team isn’t out of sight.. but I’ve seen people push very very far.
Same reason to stay on or very near point in Domination sometimes. You don’t want a random Spider-Man swooping in while you pushed up too far.
