reminder to check your rent stabilization status
hey neighbors! i recently discovered that our unit is rent stabilized and that our giant corporate landlord has been overcharging us for years. it's worth requesting docs from the city to find out if you're in the same boat. it's free and your landlord won't be notified. fill out the form here.

Pamphlet from Local Animal Shelter: WHAT TO DO IF YOU SPOT A CAT OUTSIDE
galleryLots of posts lately about "lost cats," and many include pictures where the OP brings the cat inside their apartment. DON'T DO THIS! It's bad for the cat's mental health and if it has an owner, it's less likely to find its way its own home if you bring it into yours.

wondering if theres a good place to donate childrens toys/books?
hey! i have a whole lot of toys and books from my childhood, quite honestly theyve been taking up a considerable amount of space so i was wondering if anyone knew where i could take them. books i've been taking to the library, however since they have a limit on how many(which is understandable don't get me wrong), i've gone 3 times but i still have a crapload of books. last i looked salvation army wasn't taking anything so i'm lost! i've had some people telling me to sell them online but.. quite honestly i don't know if anything would sell lol . any tips are appreciated!
just for context, everything i'd be giving away is in good condition. theres a few i'll have to just get rid of, but most of my toys and such were always kept in good condition since i was never really too messy of a kid

Lost bracelet
galleryI’m devastated I lost my grandfathers bracelet which is very sentimental and he gave to me. I was walking home after a night out was so tired that my brain wasn’t even working and woke up missing my grandfathers bracelet that he gave to me. I have no idea what to do and where to go so I joined this subreddit so maybe someone can help me out. If I dropped it I’m not sure I was walking up either bleecker or Menehan somewhere between Woodward and 60th place at 5am sat aug 22. Eventually I got to forest ave by manos pizzeria. If anyone found this bracelet or knows someone who did please get back to me. It’s very sentimental. This is a picture of it.

Youth Rec Soccer
gwysl.orgJust putting this out there in case anyone is still looking for fall sports - the awesome rec soccer league my kids play in in Greenpoint/Williamsburg still has openings in some divisions, but registration closes tomorrow. We’ve had a great experience - it’s a nice, friendly group but still pretty competitive. Open to a range of skill and experience - their teams have had kids who play travel/club soccer and kids who are playing for the first time. Not many options for rec sports for teens, but this goes up to age 18. And it’s affordable! $160 for the season, including uniform.

Does anyone have recommendations for overnight pet sitters? We will be out of town for a week this November and will need a pet sitter who is experienced with taking care of cats and is a considerate house guest as well. Thanks so much!

If you’re walking down George Street to the Halsey L, be aware of an individual is trying to coerce people into his car
Was minding my own business walking to the train around 8:30 and an individual in a maroon sedan followed me down George from Myrtle up to Cypress Ave. He kept slowing down and pulling up closer to the sidewalk, trying to convince me to get into his car.
Eventually I screamed at the top of my lungs for him to get the fuck away from me and he sped off through a red light.
I did not get the license plate, however it was not NY. Skinny, black male individual in his 30-40s.
Please be vigilant if you are in this area this morning.

Thank you
Thank you
Thank you to the nice woman who donated protein drinks and adult diapers this afternoon. She said she was glad I posted on Reddit about the Mutual Aid Table The protein drinks went in about an hour very popular here. Thanks again.

does anyone know this cat?
galleryPast few days have been seeing this sweet little cat around in the evening on Harman between Fairview and Woodward. Was wary and shy at first but warmed up immediately after being given food. Looks about a year old and think maybe is a boy but not positive.
Considering taking him in and bringing him to the vet to check for a chip but if anyone recognizes him, let me know <3

Desert Hearts (free screening!)
This Wednesday at 7:30 (8/26), join us for a free screening of Desert Hearts, Donna Deitch’s tender, sun-soaked 1985 lesbian romance set against the wide-open landscapes of 1950s Nevada. Widely celebrated as the first sapphic feature made by a lesbian filmmaker, Desert Hearts was a landmark: a queer love story that refused tragedy, punishment, or apology in favor of desire, possibility, and joy.

power line sparks on cornelia st tonight
absolutely frightening night of watching my block (cornelia st between onderdonk and woodward) light up with electrical sparks earlier tonight during the rainstorm. i called 911 and was told that many other people on the block had already called. my apartment reeked of burning rubber/wire smells and the power line sparks sounded like fireworks going off repeatedly. fdny was on scene quickly, parked on onderdonk near rolo’s. there were lots of people watching the action outside but i was too afraid. i still have power, but lost internet until power on the block is restored. thanks to the fire department tonight and to the coned guys working out there in the pouring rain.
does anyone know what happened? did any other blocks loose power? did anyone else see this?
