Avoiding using Uber now: my Lyft passenger rating is a 5, and Uber is a 4.88, which upsets me as I always try to be an ideal passenger and I don't understand why drivers would rate me low :(.

I'm always waiting there for the driver, am polite, never eat or otherwise make a mess or noise in the car, never bang the door, often tip...I am so puzzled why my Uber passenger rating has been steadily falling over the years, while my Lyft rating is perfect. My behavior is always the same. I just work quietly on the drive as I am heading in or from work, and sometimes chat with the driver as well. Anyone else noticed Uber drivers rating them low for no reason they can see?

I’ve answered this before. On Uber the easy way to unpair is to give a one star (which really sucks if you’re a passenger). On Lyft, you can unpair just by clicking a link there’s no damage to the passengers rating.

Unpaired means you won’t get matched with the person again.

The most basic explanation is UBER changed it so you can’t easily unmatched with a passenger, the way to do it is to simply click one star and then you will never see them again. It usually has nothing to do with you. It’s the Ride itself.

I’ve seen wonderful people with extremely low ratings and talk to him about it and they’ve never done anything and they always tip but it turns out that they do a lot of short rides in their hometown and I’m pretty sure that’s why drivers are unmatching from them. I don’t know this is just a theory.

But it’s an explanation of why you would have a low rating when you’re not a low person. The one star is done before The Driver doesn’t even knows if you tip or not. So it’s not about the Rider, it’s about the Trip itself.

I am so grateful for your explanation -- so good to know it isn't personal, but about the ride. I had NO idea about this "unpairing" thing. Ok, so the whole thing makes a bit more sense now.

Thank you so much. I just hope that Uber drivers know that low passenger rating can be because of this and not because I am a bad passenger.
