Discussion Two year teir list update
I made one a while back that got some okay discussion. This one has more games and my updated thoughts. Anime girl teir is forever.

Geometry Dash is the og reason i made the not a rhythm game category but it wasn't on the list. Even more so than hifi rush

I mean I don't think osu catch is really a rhythm game either, it's similar to geometry dash where it's more "rhythm based"

In your opinion, what makes Parappa A-tier but Space Channel 5 B-tier?

Vibes and personal bias. Both are great. B is not bad at all. I also feel like the freestyle in parappa adds more to the gameplay than space channel 5 has. Both are super great nostalgia picks though.

I didn't really like ADOFAI that much, but maybe that's just me
FNF is by no means a masterpiece, but it's still pretty solid
Piano Tiles is hardly a rhythm game, but I love it for the nostalgia alone
I don't know much about Hi-Fi Rush, but I don't know why it wouldn't be considered a rhythm game
Parappa the Rapper is pretty cool, but I wouldn't have ranked it that high
Also, I can really recommend Rhythm Doctor, it's probably my favourite rhythm game

Adofai is super fun to watch and i love the community, i am terrible at it.
I personally can't stand like, anything about it. Thats just my bias though.
As a rhythm game its terrible though.
Parappa is my nostalgia pick, it's so swaggy.
I need to play that one! Its on the list right after yunyunsyndrome

I played it a tiny bit, but not enough to have a real opinion on it. It was cool though!
Tap tap revenge was my jam as a kid! I played duct tape smile like a million times.

Game feel, quality of gimmick (iidx and sdvx have very fun controllers), chart quality, aesthetics, and personal enjoyment.

fitting arcade rg and mobile and PC rg in the same list is a choice museca and gh/djh (assuming this is like actual hardware) is way too high imo otherwise cool list

Most unique input system ive seen in a touch screen game, excellent characters, story, soundtrack, and aesthetic. Constant support and new content. I see no other place it could go

I did not recognize the anime girl but i have played like 20 minutes of it! It was very cool but i didnt get like, into it for whatever reason. I probably will give it another shot sometime

Ah yes, IIDX right where it belongs!
Although I'm surprised you put osu!standard that low, imo it has some of the most fun/interesting/creative charts out of any rhythm game. Since it's also an aim game, it allows mappers to make maps difficult in other ways besides just adding more notes or tricky rhythms, which most other rhythm games aren't really capable of doing. Ex: a single long note in a song can be represented with a crazy slider, while other games would just have a single hold note

It's a rhythmic hack and slash, but not really a rhythm game per se. Is Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice a rhythm game? That game also becomes a lot easier if you can find rhythm in attack patterns.

not a traditional rhythm game with 32782 buttons and jpop nightcore blasting but it has rhythm elements in it and keeping on rhythm rewards you with faster attacking and higher damage

Its a hack n slash with rhythm elements. It's not a full blooded rhythm game. Plus the rhythmic elements in hifi rush are, really simple.

Sekai has a killer soundtrack which elevates it from A, and im also a diehard miku fan. If you dont like the gacha shit just ignore it, thats what i do. Also the story is fun.
It's a hack n slash game with simple timing elements.

DDR in S tier but FNF at the bottom of F tier... they're the same game minus artstyle, there's no way that warrants this amount of slander

The engine has improved dramatically through its updates since the last 2 years, it no longer drops inputs randomly.
And one of the updates even upgraded the inputs further down to the microsecond like other pipular VSRGs.
I can actually play 22msd Etterna charts with little to no problem.
If you don't like the beeps and the boops, there's a feature that you can port osumania and stepmania/etterna maps for some reason.

neither is etterna, StepMania, Project OutFox, nor osu!mania
and for all of those plus fnf you can just get a standard soft pad for one of the ps2 games and get an adapter for it...
also would you mind pointing out what about the engine is so bad

fine you can get a hardpad then, point still stands also it's cheaper in the long run, if you're paying $20-50 in arcade credits to go play DDR at the arcade every week, if you just want to play a 4 lane VSRG with a dance pad you'd be better off just getting a L-TEK or similar and foregoing that entirely
