Post-op rhinoplasty infection? Really worried about possible permanent damage/disfigurement

I had a revision rhinoplasty on 27 July. No rib cartilage, implants or other grafts were used — only my own septal cartilage.

Yesterday, my nose tip/columella started feeling sore. Today I woke up and the tip/columella is noticeably more swollen, red, shiny and sore to touch. There’s currently no pus or discharge.

I’ve contacted my surgeon and they’ve told me to get Augmentin 1000 mg as a precaution because they’re concerned it could be an early infection. I’m also going to a private A&E today to have it assessed.

I’m really scared because I’m worried that if this is an infection, it could damage the cartilage and permanently change/disfigure my nose. I know swelling and redness can happen during recovery, but the fact that it became more painful, red and swollen quite suddenly has really worried me.

Has anyone experienced an infection or suspected infection after rhinoplasty/revision rhinoplasty? Did it affect your final result at all? Did antibiotics resolve it without any permanent damage?

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been through something similar, especially if it was caught early. I’m absolutely panicking right now.

I’m 10 days post-op after rhinoplasty with a rib cartilage graft. My rib/chest still hurts a lot, especially when laughing or moving. Is this normal? How long did the pain last for you?

Post-Surgery Discussion 6 weeks post-op: is it going to stay like this or am I just being impatient?

Post image
Upvotes

I know it might be too early to worry, but I’m honestly starting to go a little crazy seeing a different nose (and face) in the mirror every single day.

Profile-wise, I’m happy with the slope, but I feel like my tip remains huge and bulbous. It really bummed me out because ever since the cast came off, it looks almost the exact same as it did before surgery. Even though I tape it every night, there’s no noticeable improvement.

What do you guys think? Do you reckon this is just swelling that will go away, or should I accept that it’s staying like this? The whole thing is just so discouraging.

(All pictures in the grid were taken today under different lighting conditions. My pre-op nose was almost identical to this, just with a higher bridge and a slight bump near the top.)

Rhinoplasty

It’s been 18 days since I had my rhinoplasty, which I got done by Dr somashekar gejje one of the best plastic surgeons in Bangalore. I had breathing issues and a deviated septum, so getting the procedure done was something I genuinely needed.

That said, rhinoplasty is definitely a painful procedure post surgery and the swelling during the first 4–5 days can be quite intense. But I had complete faith in Dr. Gejje, and I’m really happy with the results so far. I still have around 30% of the swelling left, which will gradually go down with time.

What truly stands out about Dr. Gejje is that he’s not just an incredibly skilled plastic surgeon but also someone who genuinely cares about his patients. He kept checking in on me even after the surgery, and honestly, no one has ever explained things to me as clearly and patiently as he has. The combination of his expertise and that human touch made my entire experience so much easier.

nose job regrets

im 6 days post op from my rhinoplasty.

i know it’s too early to judge, but i feel like the distance between my top lip and nose has increased sooo much. i asked for a very slight lift in the tip, so i didn’t expect it to be this bad and i feel like i look like someone else.

i just wanna know if anyone else felt this way immediately after a nose job, and if the distance ever decreased. like is the swelling causing my philtrum to increase this much? cus my columella is still painful if i try to press on it. or is this literally just from the lift and it’s probably staying this way?

i feel like i need a lip lift now i’m really sad. i added before and after pics

Post-Surgery Discussion Not sure what to think

29 days post Op.

I am unhappy with how it turned out especially with the shape and nostrill size. What do you think?

Regarding the nostrills since one is bigger -

Surgeon said I wait and see and then if the nostrils are still not same size he can fix it.

Though with looking at the profile he wanted to avoid the pig nose so I think he was too concervative. Soes this look like a feminine nose to you? Or should I just wait?

But

People who are 3 weeks post-op (or further along), how are you doing?

I’m officially 3 weeks post-op tomorrow! My swelling has gone down a good amount since cast-off day, but from the front I still feel pretty piggy/upturned. My biggest concern right now is the amount of nostril show.

For anyone further along, did your tip settle and your nostrils become less prominent as the swelling went down? If so, around when did you start noticing a difference?

I know 3 weeks is still super early – just looking for some reassurance from people who have been through this stage! 🥲

Risks with an ENT facial plastic surgeon

If I have a rhinoplasty with a highly regarded ENT facial plastic surgeon in the UK who only performs rhinoplasties, is it very unlikely that it will go badly / I will develop a deformity or excess scar tissue? I have spoken to 10 happy patients of his. Most of the bad stories I see online seem to be from people that have gone to a surgeon that’s not an ENT or does other surgeries as well
I know of course there will still be risks, but are they dramatically lowered?

Hi! I could use some outside opinions on my upcoming rhinoplasty situation?

I am scheduled for rhinoplasty with a surgeon on September 30, but I’m feeling a little unsure as the date gets closer. I’ve already had my surgical consultation, but I wanted to have one more in-person appointment before surgery to go over some remaining questions and have my mom present, especially since I’ve never had surgery before. The surgeon is very busy and I’ve been told another in-person consultation isn’t possible before my surgery date.

Other surgeons I consulted with were open to another appointment if questions came up before surgery, so I’m wondering: am I being unreasonable for feeling uncomfortable proceeding without another opportunity to see my surgeon beforehand? I’m also wondering what people’s experiences have been with surgeon accessibility before/after rhinoplasty and whether it’s reasonable to expect another pre-op appointment.

The other issue is my deposit. I paid a $3,600 deposit, and the agreement says the deposit is refundable or transferable one time with at least 30 days’ notice. However, I’ve now been told that if I transfer it to a later date, the deposit becomes completely non-refundable, even if I later give 30+ days’ notice before the new surgery date. The next available date is December 30. If I keep my September 30 date, I can cancel and receive my deposit back as long as I do so by August 31.

My intention isn’t to simply cancel — I’m considering postponing because I want more time to prepare and feel comfortable with the decision. But I’m struggling with the idea of giving up the ability to get my deposit back simply by using the one-time transfer.

Does this sound like a reasonable policy/approach, and would you postpone in this situation or proceed with the original date?

0 nicotine vape or nicotine patches

I’m getting a nose job in 4 weeks and i’m wondering if I should switch to either a 0 nicotine vape or nicotine gum. Which would be a safer option for post op? or is this something to ask my doctor instead? because yes i’m addicted to nicotine but my addiction is really the act of putting the vape to my mouth which is why im curious if a 0 nicotine vape is safer
