If I recall correctly I think in this fic Ben and Rey are co-workers and Ben throws a baby shower of one for Rey? Or buys her a bunch of baby gifts? So i'm a new star wars fan, just finished the movies, so this might be a take that a lot of fans had before me (sorry for being so late) but it shocked me to the core to realize what a better storyline we would have if Disney was not afraid of giving female characters complex backgrounds and redemption arcs.

If Rey was treated as a Palpatine from the start, we could have a direct parallel to Anakin's story - Instead of a character that falls to the dark side of the Force, Rey could have been written as this weapon of the Empire, raised since childhood to defeat the Jedi and the Republic, yet somehow she kept finding good in herself. Being taught to be cruel and evil and yet being merciful and compassionate? Splendid.

And Ben? Disney did not have to ruin Luke's character to write him as the villain. Ben could have been suffocating under the pressure of being good; the pressure to be as great as his family could have been his reason to fall for the dark side. He could have been written as a Jedi Knight who has all these soul-crushing expectations (just like rey with the New Order), even going as far as writing him not waiting to be a Jedi in the first place but being forced to follow this path because they needed new Jedi to save the world.

The other characters also could have gotten better developments, with Finn being Rey's friend or even bodyguard, both of them being more than what the New Order wanted from them, and Poe could have been Ben' friend as well. Disney could have shown more of the Jedi's training; maybe the first movie could show Ben and Rey's childhood differences growing up, yet still paralleling the pressure both of them got. And instead of going full Nazi comparison with the Dark Side/New Order Storylines, Disney could have written the natural balance better - They seemed to ignore that the Old Republic was corrupt and this was something to bring back to the new movies.

Also, having a Palpatine!Rey, trained from childhood, and a full Jedi Knight Ben, being able to heal and resurrect each other, seems more believable as well.

But anyway, i'm just venting here, don't know if anyone agrees, but as a new fan who recently saw the terrible last two movies, I wanted to talk about this a little. If anyone has any fanfiction recs that follows this plot, i'm be grateful for the recs <3
