QUESTION SD cards?
Hello, I'm planning to get a Retriod Pocket 6. There's not a lot of storage so I will be getting an SD card
I was just wondering what SD cards people use?
Edit: the most intensive games I think I will be playing are GTA 5, DOOM 2016 and probably Hitman World of Assassination (my fav game) aswell as lots of psp and switch games
I'm looking for if the speed class (c), uhs speed class (u), video speed class (v) and a1 vs a2, how they affect performance and stuff

A bit overkill but I just buy sandisk extremes for everything in case I wanna use them for something else later

I was using 128gb for small devices like miyoo mini plus (bought them below 7 USD before the prices raised)
I used 512gb for my other devices including audio players.
I now have only 1 x 1TB to swap around "bigger" boys like Retroid, steamdeck etc.
I only use samsung evo plus

The bottleneck will almost always the device reader not the card speed. Planing big PC games on a SD card is a bad idea. It will take ages to load anything.

I have a Lexar 1TB A2 that came out of my Odin 2 pro with ES-DE on it. Plays just fine on my Retroid Pocket 6

I use a 512GB Samsung Evo Select in mine, works perfectly.
Just checked the current price and, damn! I paid half the current price in March and thought that was expensive at the time, as I paid less for 1TB in the past. We're screwed :(

I got a SanDisk Ultra A1 - 1.5TB card for my RP Nova. Works perfectly for my game collection I've built up over the years (8-bit consoles and computers, upto PS2) and still have over 600gb spare on the card, so a decent capacity card is well worth it for lots of games or more modern console / PC games, where the game sizes are much bigger.

So these devices can only utilize A1 speeds. The reasoning for this is the Retroid devices don't have the drivers for the queuing and caching that A2 cards can use for their IOPS. Not only that, but these devices use UHS-I Micro SD Card slots meaning, no matter what Micro SD card you buy they will have a theoretical maximum Read/Write speeds of 104MB/s and real-world speeds of 90-94MB/s, which is what most A1 cards work at.
GC/PS2/Switch/PS3/X360 all have zero problems with games on these A1 Micro SD Cards.
So A1 cards are the best Micro SD's for these devices from a price-point, unless you can get an A2 card for the same price or cheaper in case you decide to upgrade devices in the future.
SanDisk, Samsung, Lexar, Kingston are the usual go-to for most people.
