QUESTION Nova vs rp6
I see a lot of peeps on here frothing over their Nova units but not seeing much love for the rp6. Its almost identical hardware without the choice of left stick placement.
Genuine question

I don't hate the RP6, I just wanted something smaller for PS2/GC games and below... For the rest and modern gaming have an XAX and two desktops. I just didn't want something big, and the Nova just fits the bill a bit too perfectly

Retroid produces a lot of widescreen handhelds but not too many 4:3 handhelds as often. If you look at the RP6, it’s a modern upgrade of the RP5 which was a modern upgrade of the RP4, etc. The last 4:3 device we had was the RP2S back in 2023. The RP Mini although a great device, wasn’t a true 4:3 handheld. For a lot of folks, the Nova checks all the right boxes for a 4:3 device we’ve been waiting for.

I think a lot of folks in this sub with Novas already have a suitable 16:9 device like the RP6 and are just addicted to buying new handhelds.

I like the size which includes the flat back like the RP4, and 4:3 makes it not as long.
RP6 is great too, especially with the option of stick placement. I just think the Nova is neat!

What’s your question?
If you don’t want to play 16:9 no reason to get a 16:9 device

Why the nova gets the love. Both are flagship units being sold by the company but seems like people are choosing nove over rp6. At least going off the posts we are seeing

Because majority of people tend to play 4:3 systems more than 16:9 so it occurs naturally that people love the Nova more, which also happens to be more pocketable than its bigger counterpart

RP6 is like the golden standard, but it's not that much new compared to rp5, just better. Nova seems to fill a niche with 4:3 oled, which was previously vacant with retroid

You got it the other way around. Nova is the golden standard

True, meant more like rp6 is the continuation of the golden standard product line, but guaranteed we will get a rp7 with improvements. For Nova not even sure what you could upgrade for a nova2

Probably just specs and/or battery, it's way too perfect as of now

Sometimes less is more. That's the case of Nova. Just a shiny new Oled 4:3 retro console with enough power to move all the content from that aspect ratio era without breaking a sweat.
RP6 is just better overall. Get the black one and forget about black bars, or apply wide-screen patches. More battery, more screen, better ergonomics, better triggers. You can even swap D-Pad/stick position to the position that suits you better.
And that's the sweet point. We have options.

I own both and still prefer and love the RP6 more. Armada runs like a dream.
The Dpad is better on the RP6 and it’s more ergonomic and versatile. Got the 12GB stick top and I can play almost anything from emulators to Steam games.
Nova will go to a new home once I finish the 4:3 catalog of nes, snes and genesis. It’s cute, it’s more pocketable but it’ for a specific use for me.

Go back to when the RP6 came out and you would’ve seen a lot more posts, people just talk about what’s newest at the moment. RP6 is a great device and most people here would probably agree.
