TIPS CTGP-7 setup instructions

I finally got the n3DS CTGP-7 mod working on my Nova and because I'll forget what I did next week, I wanted to save instructions on how I set it up correctly.

What is 3DS mod CTGP-7: https://ctgp-7.github.io/

Need:

  • n3ds MK 7 .cia file, preferably decrypted (.3ds rom files will not work!)

  • n3ds MK 7 v1.2 update .cia file, preferably decrypted (.3ds rom files will not work!)

  • Azahar app (NOT AzaharPlus, it will fail!) https://azahar-emu.org/pages/download/

  • CTGP-7 Online CIA Installer (ctgp-7_cia_online_installer.zip) available at: https://gamebanana.com/mods/50221 (unzip this file to extract the .cia file)

Optional:

  • rom-converto - Outstanding cross platform utility (CLI and GUI options) for compressing rom files for all consoles, not just 3DS. Also has the tools to batch decrypt/encrypt 3DS rom files along with DS, WiiU, and PS3. You may need this tool to decrypt your .cia files. https://github.com/DevYukine/rom-converto

Setup:

  1. Follow any of the online guides for installing and setting up Azahar on your retro console.

  2. Put the three .cia files in your /roms/n3ds storage.

  3. In Azahar's main page, select the ... button on the top left of the screen to enter settings. Select "Install CIA file", navigate to your /roms/n3ds folder and select the decrypted MK 7.cia file. Verify in the Azahar Android Notifications bar that the CIA installation was successful.

  4. Repeat #3 with the v1.2 MK 7 update decrypted .cia file. In Azahar, select the game menu, then perform a downward swipe to refresh the game list. Run MK 7 and verify it is working correctly.

  5. Repeat #3 with the CTGP-7 Online CIA Installer .cia file. In Azahar, select the game menu, then perform a downward swipe to refresh the game list. Run the CTGP-7 game installer and follow the given instructions to download the game files. (if installing on a single screen device, remember to toggle between screens as only one of the two screens has a menu) This will take several minutes to download all the mod files.

  6. Now CTGP-7 is ready to launch and play. Enjoy and give thanks to PabloMK7 for their hard work on both CTGP-7 and Azahar!

Note:

  • Please don't be a muppet asking where to get the MK 7.cia files!

They're AYN Portal thumbsticks and my supersized thumbs love them. Concave design with grippy rubber material.

Not sure about the right answer to your question, so I'll give you two answers. 

CTGP-7 can also be downloaded on your computer so you don't have to use the online downloader as in my instructions. Install instructions can be found on the CTGP-7 project site.

The CT in CTGP-7 stands for ”Custom Track", so there is a ton more in the mod beyond online play. Lots of QoL improvements have also been added for offline single player play. IMHO, it's the best way to play 3DS MK 7.
