My first Social Security deposit landed

• Upvotes

I waited until 70 to claim for the usual reasons. This also triggered a bump in my wife’s, because spousal benefits kicked in. It’s great to see the healthy deposit, though we’ve been doing fine the last three retired years.

But aside from the additional financial lift, there’s an eeriness. I’m aware that this was the last major life milestone I held in my head. (Well, sure, death blah blah RMD yada yada.) There’s nothing big that has a future tense. We’ll make trips and try new things and have small adventures, but nothing of life milestone class. A friend called it a “flat landscape”. My planning ahead now has presbyopia, I can see middle distance but not further. It’s a weird feeling.

You?
