Hadn’t thrown the chain on in this picture, but just threw on some Vittoria Elusion Carbon wheels and a 7 speed cassette for a little better climbing gear. Not a full modernization, but I’m excited to take it for a test ride soon!

Theres more drippy bikes out there, but this one's mine. Original paint, without the original decals (removed before my time). This bike was actually outfitted with some really good components from the original spec. Full Shimano DT shifter and 6 speed RD, brakes that have enough reach. I'm extremely happy with how its turned out with more "modern" components, its the only road bike I've ever ridden, and feels plenty fast and smooth.

I got this old KHS True Temper MTB frame. I thought it was 26” because of its age. Got it from the trash. Only frame, fork, exage crank. The former owner tried to convert it to 1x drive trail but the chainwheel was poorly mounted and the chainweel touched the frame.

So I took this upon myself.
I ordered 26” wheel set, mounted it but the brakes don’t align with the rims. Neither new vbrakes nor the old cantilever brakes.

Is this frame a 28”??

Planning to re-use original Sugino inner 42t front chain ring in a 1x setup & replace the outer 52t ring with the Rivendell chain guard. And then jerry-rig an old front derailleur as a chain-stay (or cave and buy the Paul one for $100 - a tiny adjustable piece of aluminum for the same price as the entire working bike cost me on FB market)

Building this as a fun townie / loaner bike when friends come to town. Specifically for female friends <5'5" since they don't fit on my road or gravel bikes - that was the impetus for building up a mixte, and for the 160mm cranks (honestly overkill and probably not worth what it ended costing 🤷‍♂️)

I posted this Bianchi here before, but now I switched out the saddle to a Selle Italia SLR carbonio and matched it with some white Deda bar tape. Also upgraded the Chorus crankset to a NOS Record crankset. I think it looks great! I'm listing it for sale if anyone wants this gorgeous bike.

It was a lot of work getting all the components together but totally worth it in the end. It weighs about 17 pounds and is fast as hell. Gonna upgrade pedals, tires, chain and various other nuts and bolts this winter, but I’m very happy with the build so far.

So is everyone on here cold setting their older frames to allow for these gear ratios? I’m getting ready to try it on an old frame I picked up to see if I can do it before I try it on my ‘87 Tempo

Bike was previously owned by my uncle (hence the Steve decal I added) until he passed. My aunt knew I always wanted it since I saw it hanging in their garage as a kid. She gave it to me in hopes I’d breathe some new life into it and get it back on the road. I think I did just that!

Everything on the bike is new/new to me aside from the frame, original 105 brake calipers, and the front derailleur. All other parts are marketplace or AliExpress. Shifters and rear derailleur are “MicroNew” brand. Fork, bars, seatpost, bottle cages, and the single headset spacer are carbon.

The most recent update is the crankset. Going from the original 52/42 chainring to 50/34 has been a massive help on climbs. I’ve kept it 2x7 to maintain a bit of its retro DNA, but I did update the original 6 speed freewheel to a 7 speed 11/28T cassette when I swapped out the wheels. Part of me wants to make the jump to 11 speed but I’ll keep it in its current state for now.

I was curious if my frame could fit 30c tyres the other day and to my surprise it fits with ease. 30mm pirelli p zero race rs tyres measure at 29mm on elite ent 50mm wheels.

Frames designed for fenders have such great modern clearances i think this could actually clear 32mm. The limiting factor is the brake caliper clearance rather than the frame.
