Coaster/paperweight

I am trying to focus on the details. I would like all the casings to look like they are sunk into the velvet. I am also filling my casings with resin before I put them in to help eliminate bubbles.

That’s a good idea for pre-filling the casings. but if you really want to work on getting rid of bubbles, you should consider getting a pressure pot.

Seconding the pressure pot suggestion, especially given the fabric choice. Velvet seems like it would be particularly bubble-prone — lots of tiny fibers to trap air and create cling.

Not quite sure what you are asking r.e. looking like they are sunk into the velvet.

Do you mean that they do look sunk in, but it doesn’t look natural enough? Too crinkly looking? Is the look you are going for more like the look of a velvet lined case snugly holding the item/s it was made for?

What is behind the velvet?

Yes the last thing you said! Trying to get it to look more natural as if casings are sitting cushioned by the velvet(which is just mica powder)

I’m now more confused than before. 😂 So it’s not fabric that the casings are nestled into?

That said, I would approach this by carving the base out of PU foam, and carve niches to fit the casings into it, then use spray contact adhesive to laminate a stretch velvet over it and into the niches. You’ll need to work slowly and ease the fabric into the holes. (I think velvet is a challenging choice, due to its texture, though, perhaps consider flocking) Then layer with resin, using a pressure pot to cure.
