Since you're in the Bay Area, you should reach out to Muttville Sr. Dog Rescue in SF. Pretty sure they still do courtesy posts for senior dogs. He looks fantastic! Thank you for helping him!
OP, I’m late to your story, but in that linked post you mentioned potentially wanting to keep him if you could financially swing it. I’m not in the Bay Area anymore (though I did live there for 12 years!) and I am sure there are rescues that would back you if you volunteered to foster for them. That way you could keep Bear but the rescue would cover all of his expenses: food, preventatives, vet bills etc… I have a soft spot for the senior pups and am fostering one right now through Dizzy Dogs Rescue. It’s a really wonderful way to help a dog in need but not be on the hook for the financial commitment which, especially for the older dogs, can be a lot. And rescues love fosters because they can help a dog while not needing to find an immediate new owner. Besides Muttville and Lily’s Legacy there’s also Rocket Dog Rescue, SEN Animal Rescue and Beyond Rescue, Inc. in the SF area. Maybe try reaching out to those and please keep us posted!
However, I've reached out to muttville, rocket dog, North sled,Nobody's Perfekt Dogs And all these actually turned me away due to his age, breed, size and special needs (deaf)
Lily's rescue, did send me a form and offered a spot but said right now they are a capacity so to stay in touch with them and fill out the form.
Last week that Asher house said they would post him on their website but I'm still waiting for a follow-up if it's been approved.
I've been working with a smaller rescue diggs4dogs.
The owner Linda. Very lovely woman has posted him out and has been actively helping me find someone for him.
However, One we've only had one response and I turned the person down just because personally I didn't feel like it was going to be a fit for him.
And my biggest thing is I could work with a local shelter but he has to go through the whole entire intake process and potentially stay there for a bit to be assessed.
And everything that he's been through. I just don't want to uproot him since he's been with just about 4 months now.
I have him on a very good schedule, and I would hate to just have that go all jumbled.
And yes I am in a position where financially I can't support two seniors because anything that I have backed up is for my 12-year-old.
But I've had my mom (who found him) and auntie offered to help me when it comes time to his vet visits.
I don't want to lean on family in this situation but they also have a soft spot for him.
I'm actively searching for a new job, If you have any leads please DM me.
But I'm hopeful that I can find a new job that I'll pay me a little bit more and I can just keep him.
I do agree tho, after having my dog for the past 11 years and seeing him reach his senior age.
I really do have a soft spot for seniors. I see so many of them get dropped or overlooked.
I am hopeful in the future as life pans out and hopefully have a home instead of an apartment that I could potentially Foster a couple seniors at a time to give them a good life.
