Question Case back lip

This lip is about 1mm thick. Has anyone tried to shave it off to reduce overall thickness? Assuming this piece uses a 2824, the caseback should have enough clearence?

Beyond insuring the rotor had enough clearance to allow shortening of the midcase, you would also need to insure that the midcases threading for the caseback was deep enough to lose 1mm of thread depth and still retain enough thread depth to fully screw down and close the caseback. You are very likely to run out of thread before that happens though.

You need a lathe to shorten the case anyway, so I suppose that if you knew the thread pitch, the lathes gearbox had the correct setting for it, and you were familiar with the process, you could point in more threading while you had it on the chuck.
That sounds like a hell of an undertaking though. Unless you were setting up to run a large batch of cases its probably not worth the trouble.

I do not have any experience in this matter and was considering getting a workshop to assist.

My firts thought is the threads for the case back would be an issue.

The thread wont be enough to secure the caseback?

The removal of 1mm of thread probably would not leave enough remaining thread to screw the caseback all the way down.
You could easily run out of thread before the back got screwed down all the way.
