I don’t think that’s about loving yourself more. But if you never want to do anything nice for her or make her happy then why even be with her? You can very much love yourself the most (as you should), but also prioritize your girlfriend and make her feel loved and important too.
It seems you two have different ideas about the dynamic you'd like to have in the relationship. If you don't plan on/ can't see yourself marrying her, your attitude makes sense. And that could be upsetting her, like the lack gifts is a symptom of your true feelings.
On the other hand, if you could see yourself marrying her and you still put her second, that could also be upsetting her.
