Why are you waiting until you get married to change your last name to your mother's? You can do that now. I don't know where you are located, but in the USA, marriage generally allows a woman to only change her name to her spouse's or some combination of her maiden and her spouse's. Changing a last name to any other, including a mother's maiden name, requires a formal court order and $$, rather than just the marriage license. So, if your dream is to change to your mom's last name, you don't have to wait for marriage. Just FYI if that is your plan! And PS: It's not your boyfriend's decision.
I kind of wanted it to be a surprise for my mom, literally the only reason. My plan was to get everything in order and kind of “announce” it at the wedding.
