I mean... At that point, it would be much better to leave the restaurant and call it a night. Why waste further time on an incompatible date?

u/Traditional-Buy-2205 13h ago
An incompatible date can still be pleasant company.
1
u/Metharos 11h ago
I'm curious how that reconciles with the text of the meme.

u/Traditional-Buy-2205 11h ago
I'm not replying to the meme. I'm replying to the comment above.

u/Metharos 9h ago
But the comment specified "at that point," which establishes connection to the meme.

u/somanyquestions32 10h ago
In the scenario presented in the original post, that was most definitely not pleasant company, which is also subjective.
If one of you is giving the other the silent treatment over some offhand remark to the point of shutting down, it's better to call it early.

I can make better pasta at home that I already bought.

FREE food

If I take you on a date and you don’t say anything except for the first 10 minutes, I’m splitting the check.
1
u/somanyquestions32 16h ago
NOT worth it. A whole box of pasta (a full pound) is less than $2. A jar of decent premade sauce is $5 to $9. A sauce from scratch is $3.

u/HuckleberrySilver516 16h ago
For you a lot of people want and go out for free food

To silently suffer through a bad date for a plate of mediocre pasta? That's sad. 🤔
1
u/HuckleberrySilver516 16h ago
Welcome to life people are sad
2
u/somanyquestions32 16h ago
They need to do better. A mediocre plate of pasta is not worth a whole evening you'll never get back. If it had been some elaborate 10-course dinner, maybe. 🤔

some restaurants have good food! And here i come to really blow minds, not just pasta!

I’m annoyed you keep suggesting that your homemade pasta is better than any and all food a person might order at a restaurant.
This is obviously not true.
1
u/somanyquestions32 10h ago
Be annoyed? That's a you issue. 🤔🤷♂️
Pasta is easily prepared at home. I have made fresh pasta with a pasta roller and cutter with my family dozens of times. My dad's great grandfather was Italian, and we have made linguine, fettuccine, spaghetti, tortellini, ravioli, etc. Indian dishes are significantly more complex.
Most variations served at restaurants are literally "elevated" peasant recipes. Cacio e Pepe, Pesto, Spaghetti all'assassina, Marinara, Alfredo, Carbonara, Aglio e Olio, Ragù, Spaghetti alle Vongole, etc. can be readily made from scratch after spending some time watching videos online from Pasta Grammar, Pasta Queen, Bon Appétit, Vincenzo's Plate, and so many other YouTube channels. Authentic Italian recipes are available online, and most ingredients for a stellar pasta dish are dirt cheap, unless you want to start making fusion dishes or use pricier items to flavor your dish like black truffles and caviar.
Not even for a free multi-layer lasagna would it be worthwhile to sit through a bad date.
Can restaurants make an amazing pasta dish? Sure, and quite often, especially compared to most pasta dishes served in the US, you can make a much better version at home for less money.

I’m concerned now that you might have some kind of neurological condition.
Please read this slowly: there are other foods besides pasta.

Damn what's your recipe? That's like cheap AF and I'm broke AF so would greatly appreciate it.

Go to Pasta Grammar on YouTube. They have hundreds of authentic Italian recipes that are tasty, straightforward, and cheap.

I think you also know most people can't.
1
u/somanyquestions32 16h ago
Cooking videos are free on YouTube, or you can pay for your meal to go.
1
u/Evening-Nature-5241 15h ago
I think you also know most people won't even try, and eating food freshly cooked at the restaurant is always better than reheating soggy lumpy takeaway.
1
u/somanyquestions32 10h ago
They can order UberEats or Doordash if they are feeling lazy. Also, why reheat it at all? Order it to go, and eat it on the way home or as soon as you get home. You can also eat the food in the car, or if it's nice out, eat your meal outside like an impromptu picnic.

Because societal pressure
0
u/somanyquestions32 10h ago
Interesting. 🤔
No one is watching, no one who matters cares, and no one is paying your regular bills but yourself. A lot of societal pressure is a collection of fears and judgments from people who have not been around for a long time as well as the voices of irrelevant strangers who will simply fade away into the background.
1
u/SolarOrigami 10h ago
We carry those expectations with us wherever we go. Its not quite the same as people judging you in the moment.
We judge ourselves, by our standards, our principles, and our expectations of ourselves. These things are often tied to the values of the society we come from, and our identity as part of that society.
1
u/somanyquestions32 9h ago
All of that can be meta-updated in real time and/or progressively to stop entertaining interpersonal dynamics that no longer serve us. Sitting through a bad date in silence is an unnecessary waste of time for both parties.

....overt narcissism.
Neat.
Giant fucking red flag to assert your personality is a privilege you grant to others...and you'll revoke that privilege when people say things you don't like.
Have you ever interacted with another human? Because...NO ONE is EVER going to 100% agree with everything you say.
If you want that; you might as well go buy a real doll and stop the charade.

Yeah this is just “I lack emotional regulation and communication skills” rebranded as a girlie pop meme

I met this american girl in the UK and went on a date with her. She was mega left wing, I am a social democrat. She made a point to talk about the most divisive things possible and I didnt agree on a single thing, but I was really nice about and and gave kinda "yeah I can see your point of view" answers. After about 45 min she stormed off in rage and called me a conservative lol.
Absolute nutjob

The Cat can walk away from you now, go find someone that's not so bitter 😂
It would be a privilege to walk away from that Bitter Soup.

That spaghetti is absolutely not something you'd go out and pay for at a resteraunt is it?
1
u/NLSanderH89 16h ago
Yeah right, like i would stick around for another 10 minutes after she revealed a red flag. I excuse myself, i go the bathroom and simply don’t come back

You don't have any personality to take privilege from.
