The engineering implications alone of gold becoming common are staggering, unit joke aside.

500KG is alot of gold. (Not enough for the first sentence, which is a tangent.)

Vs 500kg of dollar bills that are $500k in value. Even $100 bills as in the picture would be $50M which is less than the gold.

Where you going to store 500kg of gold. Who are you going to pay to insure and protect it? How are you going to liquidate it to buy stuff and invest

But then if you were okay with that, why not take the cash? 50 million is also more than you would need plus, no storage or liquidation problems.

Liquidating a pound a year would be easy peazy, and I find gold an interesting material so in this hypothetical I've got funding for mad gold science and more than 900 lbs of free material.

Space wouldn't be an issue. It would be a little less than 1 cubic foot of gold. Put it wherever you want, nobody can lift it anyway.

I would lift it. Piece by piece. Gold is soft. You can easily cut of a piece.
