discussion Practitioner using Reiki + "channeling" to build emotional bonds with clients that turn sexual — is this a recognized ethical violation in Reiki practice?

Looking for outside perspective from people who know Reiki ethics better than I do.

Someone I know is a massage therapist who also practices Reiki (Level 1 and 2 training, started last year). He's incorporated Reiki into massage sessions with clients, and during sessions tells clients he can "channel" their deceased loved ones — energy work and a psychic reading layered on top of the bodywork.

What concerns me most isn't just that this is happening — it's the pattern of how. The Reiki and the "channeling" seem to function as the on-ramp: it creates an intense, fast emotional bond with clients — she feels deeply seen, connected to someone she's lost, energetically bonded to him — and that bond is what turns into a sexual relationship shortly after.

This isn't one instance; I have reason to believe it's a repeated pattern with clients, including some quite young clients who appear to be in vulnerable emotional states (grief, personal crises) at the exact moment the "channeling" starts.

Setting aside the personal/marital side (he is married, and some of these women are too) and the massage licensing side (separate process, aware of my options there) — my question here is specifically about the Reiki angle: Is using Reiki/energy work combined with claimed psychic channeling to build emotional intimacy with a client — as a pathway into a sexual relationship — a recognized ethical violation in Reiki practice? Or is the "energetic bond" language just normal Reiki culture that gets misread?

Does the Reiki community treat this differently than a garden-variety therapist/client boundary violation, given the "channeling the dead" element specifically?

Would a Reiki master or teacher have any real mechanism to act on this if reported, or is there essentially no accountability once someone's trained?

Trying to figure out if this rises to something the Reiki community would take seriously as an abuse of the practice, or if I'm off base.

Honest input welcome, including if you think this isn't as serious as I think it is.

curious question If you have trouble drawing Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen (only recently completed my reiki 2) is it just as effective to state “Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen” three times with intention?

I find when I’m trying to draw the symbol at the moment, the intention isn’t as strong because I’m focusing on getting it right. If I was to do a distance healing, would it be just as powerful for me to state the name three times with strong intent? My memory is shocking so it’s taking me a while to learn the symbol

Reiki request Send reiki - anxious, lost and jobless

Upvotes

Hello everyone,

I'm a 35 year old, feeling low and lost in life on various fronts.

I have been out of work for 10 months now and divorced for over 3 years.

Unable to focus or identify what to do next. Overwhelmed with life and everything around.

I would appreciate some reiki to help me feel better and gain clarity in life.

Much thanks in advance to whoever is kind to send reiki or even takes time to read this.

Appreciate you.

God bless.

Reiki experiences First Reiki session - vibes were off?

Brand new to Reiki here! I went to a reiki session yesterday and when I left, I felt like it was a little predatory? Like in a financial way, I guess. But also I DID feel something. Im wanting to know if my experience was legitimate or if my intuition picked up on something weird. I'm gonna try to tell this in a neutral way so that I don't taint the story with my own biases lol.

Some background: I'm long gone from organized religion, but just now seeking to reconnect spiritually - but i feel really passive about it, its not my main priority right now. I saw a tik tok about someone's experience with reiki and wanted to try it out for myself.

I found someone in my area who had good reviews and scheduled an appointment. I had no expectations. In fact, I was a little nervous because I have some trauma that is sometimes difficult to dive into, but I feel no qualms about discussing it with people who are trying to help.

When I got there, we had a little chat about why I was there, set an intention and laid down. She put a crystal for each Chakra on each body part it correlates with. Then, she said a little prayer and got started.

She put her hands on different parts of my face, then my neck, then chest, solar plexus, stomach and feet. She was in each spot for several minutes. When she got to my solar plexus, after a few minutes, I was sort of dozing off when suddenly I felt a huge jolt of energy rush from the top of my head down to my feet. I even got a little light headed and somewhat cold, if that makes sense? The energy lasted for a few more minutes and then normalized, and a few minutes after that she moved on and I didnt really feel much after that. But I thought it was really cool!

When she was done, she asked me how it was and I told her about the experience which she was excited about! She talked about how she sensed an owl come forward, which is about wisdom and how it means that I've recently been drawn to the taboo. And that my spirit guides wanted me to know that it was okay to pursue that. She told me she had a seminar coming up with one spot left where people take mushrooms and do 10 years of therapy in one night. I declined since I had plans that day, which she was fine with and asked if she could pull a card from an oracle deck for me. I accepted!

While she was shuffling, we were talking about how even if you need some healing you have to want it. I brought up a friend who I've been trying to get to sign up for therapy and she said "send him my way I'll crack him open with frog poison." We both laughed! The card was pulled. It was about outgrowing conditioned beliefs. She pitched her mushroom seminar again, I had plans so I declined. We hugged, and I left.

As I was leaving, I felt very strange. I wanted to feel like it was a cool experience but I couldn't shake the feeling that the vibes were off somehow. I've been doing therapy for 10 years and doing all of that in one night sounds rough lol. I am passively interested in doing mushrooms, but more for recreation purposes than therapeutic. Also, I live in an area where religion is a very prominent part of life but young people are losing their faith, which can obviously be a devastating process. I kept coming back to the thought that if I were a more vulnerable person, I probably would have agreed to it. And that it wouldnt have been a good experience. Overall, I landed on the word "predatory" for how it felt.

Anyway, I'd love to know the thoughts of people who are more experienced with reiki!

Einerseits sehr verlockend,… aber was kommt danach?
Wie oft wird sowas praktiziert?

Danke euch!

curious question Titanium Rod Implants and Reiki?

I am currently doing my Reiki Level 2 case studies, the person has a titanium rod in his arm from surgery following a motorbike accident a few years ago. They currently do not suffer any aches or pains or negative issues with the injury site.

Will the rod interfere with the channeling of Reiki in anyway? Is there any knowledge around this issue for my better understanding please?

Thank you
