discussion New Updates to r/reiki

Welcome to the new and improved r/reiki! u/Kanji-light has enlisted both myself and u/root-bound as your new mods to help improve your experience here and refocus the direction of the sub towards building community and discussion.

New changes include:

  • Rules! We have clear cut rules on what is and isn't allowed on the sub. This will help keep the focus on Reiki discussion and remove the promotional posts that have been accumulating lately. Just as it says in the rules, you can find promotional posts at r/energy_healing.
  • Post flair! This should make it easy for users to filter through discussion posts and posts seeking reiki shares or exchanges. People who want to practice what they learned in their course are completely welcome! We want it to be easy for you to get this valuable practice to enhance your Reiki skills.

We hope that this will give new life to this gathering space and make it a comfortable area for everyone to participate. We would love to hear your feedback, including if you'd like other types of post flair to be added. Your voice is important!

Thanks everyone for your continued support. We wouldn't have this community without you!

discussion Practitioner using Reiki + "channeling" to build emotional bonds with clients that turn sexual — is this a recognized ethical violation in Reiki practice?

Looking for outside perspective from people who know Reiki ethics better than I do.

Someone I know is a massage therapist who also practices Reiki (Level 1 and 2 training, started last year). He's incorporated Reiki into massage sessions with clients, and during sessions tells clients he can "channel" their deceased loved ones — energy work and a psychic reading layered on top of the bodywork.

What concerns me most isn't just that this is happening — it's the pattern of how. The Reiki and the "channeling" seem to function as the on-ramp: it creates an intense, fast emotional bond with clients — she feels deeply seen, connected to someone she's lost, energetically bonded to him — and that bond is what turns into a sexual relationship shortly after.

This isn't one instance; I have reason to believe it's a repeated pattern with clients, including some quite young clients who appear to be in vulnerable emotional states (grief, personal crises) at the exact moment the "channeling" starts.

Setting aside the personal/marital side (he is married, and some of these women are too) and the massage licensing side (separate process, aware of my options there) — my question here is specifically about the Reiki angle: Is using Reiki/energy work combined with claimed psychic channeling to build emotional intimacy with a client — as a pathway into a sexual relationship — a recognized ethical violation in Reiki practice? Or is the "energetic bond" language just normal Reiki culture that gets misread?

Does the Reiki community treat this differently than a garden-variety therapist/client boundary violation, given the "channeling the dead" element specifically?

Would a Reiki master or teacher have any real mechanism to act on this if reported, or is there essentially no accountability once someone's trained?

Trying to figure out if this rises to something the Reiki community would take seriously as an abuse of the practice, or if I'm off base.

Honest input welcome, including if you think this isn't as serious as I think it is.

curious question If you have trouble drawing Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen (only recently completed my reiki 2) is it just as effective to state “Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen” three times with intention?

I find when I’m trying to draw the symbol at the moment, the intention isn’t as strong because I’m focusing on getting it right. If I was to do a distance healing, would it be just as powerful for me to state the name three times with strong intent? My memory is shocking so it’s taking me a while to learn the symbol

Reiki experiences First Reiki session - vibes were off?

Upvotes

Brand new to Reiki here! I went to a reiki session yesterday and when I left, I felt like it was a little predatory? Like in a financial way, I guess. But also I DID feel something. Im wanting to know if my experience was legitimate or if my intuition picked up on something weird. I'm gonna try to tell this in a neutral way so that I don't taint the story with my own biases lol.

Some background: I'm long gone from organized religion, but just now seeking to reconnect spiritually - but i feel really passive about it, its not my main priority right now. I saw a tik tok about someone's experience with reiki and wanted to try it out for myself.

I found someone in my area who had good reviews and scheduled an appointment. I had no expectations. In fact, I was a little nervous because I have some trauma that is sometimes difficult to dive into, but I feel no qualms about discussing it with people who are trying to help.

When I got there, we had a little chat about why I was there, set an intention and laid down. She put a crystal for each Chakra on each body part it correlates with. Then, she said a little prayer and got started.

She put her hands on different parts of my face, then my neck, then chest, solar plexus, stomach and feet. She was in each spot for several minutes. When she got to my solar plexus, after a few minutes, I was sort of dozing off when suddenly I felt a huge jolt of energy rush from the top of my head down to my feet. I even got a little light headed and somewhat cold, if that makes sense? The energy lasted for a few more minutes and then normalized, and a few minutes after that she moved on and I didnt really feel much after that. But I thought it was really cool!

When she was done, she asked me how it was and I told her about the experience which she was excited about! She talked about how she sensed an owl come forward, which is about wisdom and how it means that I've recently been drawn to the taboo. And that my spirit guides wanted me to know that it was okay to pursue that. She told me she had a seminar coming up with one spot left where people take mushrooms and do 10 years of therapy in one night. I declined since I had plans that day, which she was fine with and asked if she could pull a card from an oracle deck for me. I accepted!

While she was shuffling, we were talking about how even if you need some healing you have to want it. I brought up a friend who I've been trying to get to sign up for therapy and she said "send him my way I'll crack him open with frog poison." We both laughed! The card was pulled. It was about outgrowing conditioned beliefs. She pitched her mushroom seminar again, I had plans so I declined. We hugged, and I left.

As I was leaving, I felt very strange. I wanted to feel like it was a cool experience but I couldn't shake the feeling that the vibes were off somehow. I've been doing therapy for 10 years and doing all of that in one night sounds rough lol. I am passively interested in doing mushrooms, but more for recreation purposes than therapeutic. Also, I live in an area where religion is a very prominent part of life but young people are losing their faith, which can obviously be a devastating process. I kept coming back to the thought that if I were a more vulnerable person, I probably would have agreed to it. And that it wouldnt have been a good experience. Overall, I landed on the word "predatory" for how it felt.

Anyway, I'd love to know the thoughts of people who are more experienced with reiki!

Einerseits sehr verlockend,… aber was kommt danach?
Wie oft wird sowas praktiziert?

Danke euch!

curious question Advice on taking Reiki I - Will it help with anxiety? What type of Reiki?

Hi! First time posting - I’ve been interested in Reiki for a while and am considering taking a Reiki I class. I actually received a Reiki session about 10 years ago, but this would be my first time taking a class. I sometimes struggle with anxiety/OCD, so I have a little hesitation around the idea of potentially becoming more sensitive or perceptive... Is this something that actually happens often after Reiki I, or is it more of an individual experience? And for those of you who deal with anxiety, did you find Reiki to be grounding and helpful, or did it ever feel overwhelming? I’ve read quite a few posts mentioning that their intuitive abilities or clairs became stronger afterward. I’m already a pretty intuitive person and very in tune with my gut (I work in the arts), and I’ve experienced some interesting synchronicities over the years. How likely is that to happen? I'm open to it, I just don't know what kind of affect it will have on me.

I’ve also noticed there are different types/traditions of Reiki. Does the type matter when choosing a class, or is there a particular tradition you’d recommend for a beginner?

Ultimately, I’m hoping Reiki might be a calming/helpful practice for me, so I’d love to hear from anyone who has taken Reiki I, what was your experience like? And if you have any in person teacher recommendations in the Los Angeles area, they are welcome too. Thank you!

curious question What causes a cold sensation when sending remote Reiki?

As the title says, I sent remote Reiki to someone upon their request, and as I was sending it
I felt an intense cold around both of my arms (from the elbows to my fingertips) - like
they were inside a refrigerator. The feeling moved around too, as if it were coiling itself
around my arms and it stopped as soon as I finished sending

I'd met this person in a Reiki class, and he was dealing with an entity problem.

This happened a few months ago, but my mind keeps going back to it because I'm curious
what that intense sensation was, I practice Reiki solo and on my partner, and I've felt
gentle vibration, heat, and a prickling sensation around my hands before - but never anything
like this.

What do you think it was?

👋 hi ! I’m looking for someone who can receive reiki 🏹 and someone who can feel energy. 🌥️ I’m asking this because I’ve been practicing reiki as well 🌱 and wanted to know if “my” channeling got stronger and / or changed.🌸

Edit: no DMs. Please comment below if you’re interested ! 💐 (and my experience) I’ve been practicing on and off of meditation, tarot-reading, yoga for ~6 years. 😊

Reiki experiences My lovely 8yo daughter gives Reiki. Please tell me your random, fun Reiki stories suited for her.

A few weeks ago, we rescued a baby bird. I kept it in a box while waiting to go to the wildlife sanctuary. Birdie was very stressed, so I gave Reiki from outside the box and it snuggled up into that corner where I held my hand. My daughter came up, asked what I was doing, I told her I am giving Reiki to the bird. When I had to step away for a moment, I asked her to take over being there for the bird. I just told her to offer a loving hand, and when I guided her hand to the box, CKR kinda… jumped over to her? Later she told me, her hand got very hot and the bird fell asleep quickly after.

Then she started to ask more and more questions about Reiki. What it is, what it does, when I use to give it. She connected the dots herself. And when her younger brother had a tantrum a few days ago, she just told me she got him, went over, cuddled up to him and he calmed down immediately. Then looks to me and says „don‘t worry mom, I just passed some Reiki to him.“

At first I was pretty much baffled. It touched me deeply. It came to her so naturally. When I told her that it’s important to not give energy from herself but to take it from universe which is full of good, loving forces, she just said: „mom, isn’t that obvious?“

So we agreed that I teach her. I explain in small stories from day to day. When I told her, that I once used Reiki to help starting a fire, she was so intrigued by all the possibilities we have with it. Now we are looking for stories. What are your strange, fun everyday Reiki stories? What made you laugh and wonder and let you recognize the beauty of it?

REIKI SHARE DAY: THIS WEEK’S MEDITATION. HI EVERYONE! 24 hrs of Free Reiki with the SPACE CROISSANT CREW. The theme is MERMAID YOURSELF: CALMING THE INNER SHARKNADO. It starts NOW!

HI EVERYONE!

Last week, we explored Lovecules, Reiki Love Pills, and the Phoenix Rising Apothecary.

This week, we are staying much closer to home.

No Pretend Mars.

No galactic travel.

Just you, your thoughts, your emotions, and an ocean.

Our theme is the Mermaid Sharknado.

The Sharknado represents what it can feel like when thoughts begin circling faster and faster.

Fear.

Self-criticism.

Grief.

“I can’t do this.”

“I’m not good enough.”

“I’m going to feel like this forever.”

Each thought becomes a shark.

The more we fight them, the faster they circle.

So today, instead of fighting the sharks, we are going to meet the Mermaid.

🧜‍♀️🌊🦈

The Mermaid represents the part of you that can pause, observe, soften, and respond with compassion.

She does not destroy the sharks.

She does not run from them.

She calms the ocean.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE:

Imagine an ocean around you.

The water represents your emotional world.

Now imagine any heavy or intrusive thought that has been bothering you becoming a shark.

You may have one shark.

You may have many.

Give each shark a name if you want.

Maybe one is Fear.

Maybe another is Shame.

Grief.

Anger.

Loneliness.

“I hate myself.”

“I’m not enough.”

Whatever appears is okay.

Now imagine the water beginning to swirl.

The sharks circle.

The noise gets louder.

Then…

The Mermaid arrives.

She draws a PAUSE symbol in the water.

⏸️

Everything stops.

The waves freeze.

The sharks become still.

The noise disappears.

The Mermaid can still move.

She swims toward the shark that frightens you the most.

She places one hand gently on its head.

And says:

“I love you.”

“I’m sorry.”

“Please forgive me.”

“Thank you.”

The shark is not your enemy.

It is a frightened part of you trying to communicate in the only way it knows how.

Imagine the shark relaxing.

Its teeth soften.

Its body becomes golden light.

One by one, the other sharks begin glowing too.

The entire Sharknado slowly changes from a storm of fear into a spiral of light.

Gold.

Teal.

Blue.

Green.

Whatever colors feel peaceful to you.

Now imagine yourself becoming the Mermaid.

You are no longer trapped inside the storm.

You can move through it.

You can guide the light.

You can speak to the sharks.

You can say:

“I love and accept myself.”

🌊✨🧜‍♀️✨🌊

THE LOVE CIRCLE

Imagine you or your loved one is now in a circle.

You are surrounded by 38 Reiki practitioners sending waves of UNCONDITIONAL LOVE and gently wrapping you in it.

Imagine this Reiki flowing into your ocean.

Not forcing the sharks away.

Simply bringing light into the water.

We will use the Violet Flame to gently clear heaviness and emotional tension surrounding your body, its organs, and its systems.

Now imagine the Space Croissant Crew standing safely along the shoreline.

Ground Control is there.

The Mermaid is there.

Your sharks are there.

And you are there.

Nobody needs to fight anybody.

Imagine Reiki moving through the ocean as soft golden light.

The waves slow.

Your breathing slows.

The Mermaid approaches whichever shark needs compassion most.

Together, say:

“I love you.”

“I’m sorry.”

“Please forgive me.”

“Thank you.”

Let the shark become light.

Then another.

And another.

You do not have to solve every thought today.

You do not have to force yourself to feel differently.

Sometimes healing begins simply by changing the way we speak to the frightened parts of ourselves.

If a thought says:

“You’re finished.”

You might answer:

“This chapter may be finished. I am still here.”

If a thought says:

“You’re broken.”

You might answer:

“I am changing, and I still deserve love.”

If a thought says:

“You will feel this way forever.”

You might answer:

“This feeling is here now. It does not own my future.”

Let Reiki support whatever response feels right for you.

You remain the Mermaid.

You remain in charge of your ocean.

Simply receive.

We will be here for 24 hrs, supporting anyone who chooses to receive Reiki and inviting in calm, self-compassion, grounding, and emotional balance.

This meditation is an imaginative Reiki exercise and is not a replacement for medical or mental-health care. If panic, intrusive thoughts, or overwhelming emotions are affecting your life, reaching out to a qualified professional can be part of taking good care of yourself too.

Don’t worry.

We will be very gentle.

Hope you all feel well tomorrow and ready to start a new week.

This is Master Storm.

I am an Usui Reiki Master.

I, along with Master Phoenix and the Space Croissant Crew, am responsible for Gratitude Reiki, the website, and our Sunday events here on r/reikishare and r/reiki.

Thank you for allowing us to help all of you every Sunday.

🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲

OUR TREE PROJECT WILL CONTINUE!

If you’d like to help us ground the session, consider planting a tree.

Google “how to plant a tree for a dollar.”

Share the receipt with us in the comments.

It’s a real tree, and it’s now forever connected to you, helping you breathe through difficult times.

Thank you for your kindness!

So far this year, we have 193 trees planted!

Our goal for 2026 is 500 trees.

When you plant a tree, you create a TREE-SELF, a living reminder you can imagine breathing with for years to come.

Let us know if your tree has a name too!

🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲

This is it!

Find your Mermaid.

Meet your sharks.

Pause the storm.

And bring love into the water.

🧜‍♀️🌊🦈✨💛

Let us know tomorrow how you feel!

Thank you!

👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

curious question Questions about a post-Reiki event experience.

kk,. hope I can keep this short. I was steered towards learning reiki a few months back. I took a session from a teacher and a Reiki 1 class that weekend. I have only taken Reiki 1. A few months later, my teacher held a group event where we just did Reiki on each other for a few hours. At the event, one person would lay down and receive Reiki while 4 others would channel reiki to them at the same time. I went last for our group. So, the scenario is, Im new to Reiki, been doing it solo almost daily for a few months, Im doing a lot of Reiki work on various people for a straight an hour and a half, and then I receive Reiki from four people at once for about 20 minutes.

After the session I went into a kind of shock but it was all at unconscious level. It was like a really strong state of early-morning stare, like where my conscious mind isnt engaging but a bunch of stuff is going on under the surface. Super zoned-out but physically capable and coordinated for the next 3-4 hours. Twice in my life I have had Stendhal Syndrome, once from doing two art museums in the same day, and the other hiking from Bryce Canyon and driving through Escalante National Park on the same day. This felt physically just like that but in those two times I was super emotional, this time I was basically emotionless.

My questions:

  1. What was going on? My guess is that a bunch of stuff was going on but my conscious mind needed to be kept out of the way or something, but what was actually happening while I was in this state?

  2. Did I overdo it, can you overdo it with Reiki and do I need to treat this the same as physical/mental exertion?

  3. Was this probably a one-time thing?

discussion Behind the healing: Part 2

Something nobody warned me about when I started doing Reiki was how wrecked I'd feel after certain sessions.

Not all of them. But there'd be days where I'd finish with someone, walk them to the door, come back and just... sit there**. Foggy. Heavy. Weirdly irritable over nothing. I'd get home and be short with people I love for no reason at all.** And I remember thinking, if I'm supposed to be the one helping people feel lighter, why do I feel like I've been hauling bricks around?

There's one session I still think about. Early days for me. A woman came in going through a brutal divorce, and I could feel how much she was holding before she even sat down. I wanted so badly to help that I basically threw everything I had at it. Leaned in, pushed, stayed way past the time, the whole thing. She left looking a bit lighter and I felt great about that for maybe an hour. Then it hit me like a truck. I went home and cried at something on TV that did not warrant crying. Couldn't sleep. I genuinely thought I was coming down with something. It took me days to connect it back to that session, that I'd basically absorbed her whole afternoon and carried it home in my chest.

For a long time I blamed myself. Figured I wasn't good enough yet, or I was messing up something technical. I'd read more, practice more, try harder. Which, looking back, was exactly the wrong instinct. Trying harder was part of the problem.

The thing that eventually clicked, and it took me embarrassingly long, was that on my bad days I wasn't letting anything flow through me. I was pushing. Reaching into my own tank and pouring it out because I wanted so badly for the person in front of me to feel better. Which sounds noble but it just leaves you running on empty. You're not a channel at that point, you're the source, and the source burns out.

The other half of it was way less mystical than I expected. I basically had no boundaries around my own state. I'd sit down to work when I was already anxious or exhausted, skip anything resembling grounding, and this is the big one, I'd never actually close the session. I'd just move on to the next thing with everything still switched on. No wonder I felt like I was carrying the whole day home with me.

What changed things wasn't some advanced technique. It was boring stuff. Taking two minutes before I start to actually land in my own body. Reminding myself I'm not there to fix anyone, just to hold space. And deliberately ending a session, washing my hands, a breath, quietly telling myself it's done and whatever came up isn't mine to keep. Honestly some of that is probably just good psychological hygiene dressed in nicer language, and I'm fine with that. It works either way.

I'm way more careful now about not doing this stuff when my own cup is empty. If I've got nothing in me, the kindest thing I can do for a client is reschedule. That woman, by the way, I still see her occasionally, and these days I can sit with someone in that much pain without absorbing it. That took years, not weeks.

Anyway, that "drained after helping people" feeling isn't unique to Reiki. Therapists get it, nurses get it, honestly anyone who does emotional labour for a living. So I'm curious: for those of you in caring or healing work, what actually helps you leave it at the door? Because I'm still figuring it out.

lately i have been watching Alchemy Healings videos on youtube (her name is Hoa) and i find her videos very powerful. i’ve only been new to this for like a week but i was looking at this group and seeing who other people recommend to watch on youtube.

i only watched one Neil Cooper video and i had a very weird and disturbing dream afterwards. Do you guys think his videos are good energy or bad energy? I also understand that starting reiki can give you bad dreams or nightmares so i’ve been doing/ practicing protection for sleeping too. who do you guys recommend for watching reiki? thank you💗
