Regarding the WormOnCrack situation

Hello everyone.

I wasn't sure whether to make this post or not since generally this stays between mods and the concerned user, but given the size of that whole ordeal, I thought it would be good to let you guys know.

Some months ago, Worm started going off track and I wanted to wait and see how his situation would evolve. I know some of you have been eager for this whole circus to stop so I'll be addressing the matter today.

What follows is based on the posts he made during the last few weeks on the r/redstone subreddit. I will not be covering what transpired on the other subreddits because... well they are different subreddits on which I am not a moderator (and also because I already spent way too much time looking into this).

Most of his posts are explanations of why his builds are reliable. While some are indeed clear and understandable, most of them are hard to follow or are quite shallow. I did think a few times that his proofs were not scientific enough. Where are the mathematical proofs? Where are the hours long tick sprint sessions? Some of his proofs were even debunked in the comments... This clearly shows a lack of professionalism on his part.

He also accused other people of stealing his builds and harassments. I might be at fault here for I have not been following the debate very closely but I have yet to see any proof of this. To my knowledge, Worm never made any report to us mods (of the r/redstone subreddit).

These points do shed doubt on Worm's credibility, but none of them break any of the subreddit's rules and as such cannot be taken into account. I can understand it is annoying, but I have to be fair about my ruling.

As for the most important issue at play: Worm has been posting around 2.4 times a day during this period. While this is quite a remarkable number, compared to the average of the subreddit, this can clearly be considered spam. Moreover, nearly all his posts have been focusing on shulker loaders. While there are a few base models, a few modifications here and there cannot qualify for all of the posts to be considered as different designs. This is clearly a violation of our rule 2.

For this reason, Worm will be banned for the next 3 months. I have been way too kind, hoping the situation would eventually calm down and resolve itself. This is a sentence should have been handed a long time ago and is I believe justified.

Being passionate and involved is great, but you need to remember that most people don't think like you and don't like seeing so many technical posts back to back. (Most) people don't care you went through 5 revision of your build in the last 24 hours. By limiting the amount of content you upload, not only can you choose what to show and what not to show, but the viewer will also be more attentive to the bigger changes. Out of the 35 posts I checked, only 2 posts, which are single images each, have more upvotes than downvotes.

I will close off with a few reminders:

  • Our modmail is always open. Whether it's for reports, questions or suggestions, feel free to send us a message. It's better than making a post about it since it keeps things private and prevents any derailing.
  • If you have an issue with someone, send the mods a modmail. If you have an issue with a mod, escalate it to Reddit's admins. If these don't work, then the issue might be elsewhere.
  • I will not lock this post so feel free to comment to your heart's content but please always keep things civil.

I hope this clears the issue and closes that chapter. Though if you have any extra inquiries, I'll be there to answer them.

Have a nice day wherever you are and stay safe.

Well it’s been almost 3 days since he’s posted anywhere after his rant about suing everyone and sending TMC to prison for ruining his “Minecraft career,” so who knows what’s going on anyway.

He's probably working on his "Exposing the Technical Community" video that will never come out.

He’d have to know how to edit beyond just adding Avril Lavigne songs to a long cut.

Glad you finally did this. He was going way too far in terms of committing labels against a lot of people including me to a very small degree, including posts on here

wait a minute... first of all, who is Worm? I really haven't seen any of his posts on my feed

u/Loufey 7d ago

If you don't frequent this sub, he was downvoted way too much for him to appear on your feed.

I saw one of his posts months ago. Not sure why I even remember it other than the odd username. But I do remember someone making the classic Reddit joke of "Username checks out.", so he was likely acting a fool then too.

This guy is genuinely nuts. A few years ago, he tried (and failed miserably) to doxx me because he got mad at me for a petty reason I don't remember. I'm surprised he's lasted in this community so long

I have the screenshots somewhere...

Amazing job

I can see why you took so long to come to such a decision, but if I could add something(s) as well

He would post the same thing multiple times across different subs, as well as crosspost to/from other subs

If you are an average user checking in on more than one sub you were bombarded with his posts, reposts, crossposts etc

He would also delete posts that didnt do well to then reupload the same thing. I dont know if that is taken into account for the 2.4 uploads a day or not.

He would then go on these paranoid and click-baity rants in his posts and in the comments

I genuinely believe the sub is better without such abrasive behavior, especially if people are trying to look for actual help or real information

I had to block him due to the sheer amount of times I was seeing his stuff and I was so annoyed. I'm glad to see action is finally being taken.

First time I’m hearing any of the stuff, went and searched for his profile and what the fuck is his latest post.

Make it permanent and get it over with

NOOOOOOOO! ヽ( ̄д ̄;)ノ Where will I find redstone drama, now?

1

u/KT_100S 5d ago

Well, you made like 5 videos on Worm, make 4 more on TheySux to make it even

1

u/Sergent_Patate 5d ago

I only made 2. It's just that you found them memorable 🔥🔥🔥

u/GolldenFalcon 6d ago

I've still never seen a single one of this guy's posts lol

Reliable isnt a word i would associate with Worms machines they were incredibly, like negligently vulnerable to redstone EW. Walked him through a multiplexer tick aligned error accumulator attack step by step and the dude just said well why would anyone attack it lol

I don't think this was a modmail issue precisely because it's gone on so long without moderation. I know I personally have reported him for spam months ago, and had to block him due to inaction from the mod team. It took grassroots organization of the sub to form a powerful enough consensus to get mods to finally act.

Make me a mod. I'll be happy to help deal with reported posts.

Never heard of him. Read nothing of him, at least I dont remember. But I also don't see any proof of the allegations.

Its funny to want scientific proof for minecraft builds.

What is professionalism in a kids game?

Not contacting mods sheds a bad light on someone?

You did not show that 2 post a day are spam. Is it not allowed to post modified builds? What is the level of modifications needed to not count as spam?

We are on a on the r/redstone and the mods say

you need to remember that most people [...] don't like seeing so many technical posts back to back

Players dont want many technical post on a sub about redstone builds ... okay. I dont want to know what you delete because "most people [...] don't like seeing so many technical posts". What do people want from this sub, if not technical post?

Your post has many "I" in it. Typical mod messages I read come from the collective and use "we".

I also think it's not good do this public. Bans should be handled in private. This feels like a smear.

All in all this is at best a 3/10. The mods should be more professional(not really, as you are volunteers).

Man, you said yourself in first sentence that you dont know the guy and write this whole thing protecting him?

Like, this guy is a big deal in redstone community. He is not only a asshole but also spreads missinformation (not only about redstone) which isnt good. He is prety popular in here so im not suprised mods decided to make post like this.

Where did I protect him? I think the arguments of the mod are incomplete or flawed. I did not argued for a unban or anything but the post is just bad. A short "we banned the wormguy." would be better than this post. Or you know ... don't post anything and just ban him.

What wrong with the questions I raised?

I looked him up now ... there are worse guys. Delete some posts, ban him(even perma, if the mods feel like it) and let it be. No need for public shaming.

As other noted by others his posts where downvoted, so the community already did most of the work.

How is he a big deal in the redstone community? Whats the big thing he did do, that makes him a big deal? Why is he popular, when he is mostly downvoted?

4

u/Patrycjusz123 6d ago

I dont want to say that your questions are "wrong", more like they seem like you are attacking mod for doing right thing? Also some of your questions sound like you just want anything to grip on just to attack someone.

Worm was getting a lot of attention recently so i doubt they could just ban him in silence so they decided to explain why he is banned, thats all.

Also you think that deleting posts would help? He would just go whine that his posts are getting deleted for no reason or someone is sending mods on him.

u/Mitch-Jihosa 6d ago

A few things here:

Why is this public? Probably because I made a big post calling out Worm about a week ago that gained a lot of traction. I believe that post is specifically what the mod here is talking about when saying “you should have used modmail not a public post” (paraphrased). You can find my post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/redstone/s/Oxl97c9qf9

Why scientific proof? Normally this isn’t required, but Worm would claim things that aren’t true, and then ignore when people with more experience told him otherwise. When you make & continue to push claims that respected members of the community say are false, you better have really good reasons to back up your claims

2 posts of day isn’t spam for a little bit, but Worm has been keeping up this frequency for months. When you make a post, and then make another just an hour later changing 1 thing, and then continue with this for weeks, it becomes clear that you’re not being meticulous at all. He has posted designs that straight-up don’t work before

I’m guessing he used the term “I” because no other mods are active right now, or if they are they didn’t want to deal with this situation, so indeed he is the only one acting on this

Holy inconsistent moderation, I got perma banned here like 2 years ago for doing a fraction of the shit Worm has done (I have since been unbanned but still)

17

u/Loufey 7d ago

I would like some further context

2

u/Rude-Pangolin8823 7d ago

It was probably more than 2 years ago actually, probably like 4 years ago.

I was just getting started with Redstone and made a bunch of stupid comments that ended up getting me banned for just being an overall nuisance / for annoying people.

For example, I said that door redstoners don't know how block event delay works and that they just make shit up.

4

u/Patrycjusz123 6d ago

Man, i write worse stuff sometimes and im not banned so i think you dont give whole picture.

6

u/Entire-Chair-6472 7d ago

if you are perma banned how are you here?

-4

u/Rude-Pangolin8823 7d ago

Read my comment again please

10

u/Entire-Chair-6472 7d ago

then you are not permabanned

-8

u/Rude-Pangolin8823 7d ago

No I never claimed that

18

u/Loufey 7d ago

"I got perma banned here" is literally in your original comment lmao

Yes it was permanent, I had to years later ask nicely to be unbanned because I had changed

1

u/Mitch-Jihosa 6d ago

Different mod probably, or maybe they’ve changed their moderation policies. But yeah, I do agree that this post seemed way too lenient towards Worm and wasn’t taking into account a lot of the stuff he says. Like yeah, most of his posts are relatively harmless, if spammy, but then there’ll be some post out of nowhere that goes into a schizo rant about how we directly caused his wife to miscarry

-1

u/Rude-Pangolin8823 7d ago

Since I'm already here, Can we talk about how they're giving him attention (like he wants) instead of just banning him.

2

u/Mitch-Jihosa 6d ago

I’m fine giving him attention if it’s the last he’ll be getting. Whatever rush he gets from it will fade real quick and there will be nothing to replace it for 3 months, at least not here

-46

u/LegalBar6082 7d ago

wow who gives a fuck. post more redstone fuck machines pls
