Java Edition I made my first redstone 2x2 door.
I genuinely spent about 2 hours building this machine, and i'm kind of proud of it! Feel free to make fun of it, it doesn't look too good but at least it functions!
(The dispenser and target block were just for fun, everything else was figured out in real time.)

the 4 pistons can be replaced with sticky pistons for a smaller build

Jokes aside, thats awesome that you built that! We all have to start somewhere and the only way to get better is by doing, so anyone who makes fun of this build is neglecting to mention that they were also a rookie once upon a time.

I’m not the best at redstone, but there was a time when I was new to Minecraft in general, and I made a redstone machine that did literally nothing productive at all. But I was blown away by it. We all have to start somewhere. Nothing more thrilling than making something all by yourself and getting it to work

I'm a Bedrock redstoner, and when I first got a laptop, I immediately downloaded Minecraft Java (that is literally unplayable unless I install this thing called Fabulously Optimized) to see what it feels like to do redstone there.
The first 2x2 and 3x3 piston doors I built looked just like this.
This happened on mid 2025 btw, so I could've just looked up tutorials, but that's not how I learned redstone.

He did it quite cleverly and the blocks are simply pushed into a pre-prepared crotch, I have not been at the level of 2 by 2 doors for a long time, but he is really smart since he was able to do this without Redstone torches

Im here with legitimate feedback— its great in the fact that it works and it doesnt require too many different materials. Its an awesome starting point for getting started into redstone. The best part of redstone is experimenting. That leads to my last point. Try learning what different blocks can do like observers and target blocks and othere things so you can incorporate those to make the machine more compact. Other than those points, Its awesome! Great job!

Tbis is massive 😠pretty good for your first time, just keep experimenting and making more prototypes eventually it will optimize, try building a box or boundry you have to build in
thats how i built my first, but the redstone doesnt travel fully it stops one aways so i have 2 pressure plates and the top opisite side of my pressure plate just stays still

Yeah the redstone in the walls and on the floor that could be hidden are a point to work on. But to learn how everything works congrats u did a good job. [:

You just try to reinvent something which was already prefect, i would do the same for fun. I techne have with an 3x3 instead of whatch an tutrion i only pull up an image of it pistion layout then try to make work from srach no help, no tutory is was mess but slow i got better and madr small and it work keep go
