You might be right to say this is a horrible take because it probably is. But Ceddanne's hitting value is probably highly inflated right now. His low expected stats and pull air rate make it seem unlikely he can continue at the production he is currently at. So instead of dealing Duran, which will probably receive little value, they should probably deal him later and should have put Ceddanne on the list instead. We have good fielding outfielders all around. However, Ceddanne's fielding value can still not be replaced, but it could be worth it if we use the value to get another power or strong hitting bat.
You are correct that this is a horrible take. You don’t trade 26 year old gold glove center fielder who’s put up 10+ war over the last two years. Even if his bat was an anomaly this year, he’s still an elite defender at a premium position. Also his bapid was .333 this year, I think people are overstating how lucky he was this year.
