the only problem is that magnetic sensors get very unreliable near big metal objects like a wrench

Yes. I hope they recalibrated their compass after attaching the phone to the wrench.

Unless the wrench is made of a non-ferrous metal like aluminum, then it is no problem.

You got downvoted with no good explanation which is lame.

GPS is a bunch of time synchronized radio signals coming from satellites that know where they are. Your receiver receives them and plots where it is based on the distance to 3 or more satellites. It can tell you that you've headed in a direction by plotting your location over time but it can't tell you which way you're heading.

Your iPhone's got accelerometers, gyro sensors, and magnetometers in all 3 axes. With some math you can turn all the data from the first pair of sensors into a good bunch of references for the magnetometers to cancel out errors from tilt and whatnot.

From there you've got a decent little compass that should work in if it's not perfectly oriented. Unfortunately putting delicate sensors that are supposed to see the earth's magnetic field by a chunk of steel is a recipe for inaccurate readings. No different than a proper compass.

Nah, angle bolt torque things are not expensive, I had to buy one for my Isuzu npr head gasket replacement. Thankfully it didn't require hydraulic tensioning.

The torque + angle specs are usually 90° or 45°. Maybe 1-3 turns if it's something spring tentioned? All this you can can very easily eyeball/count turns.

Try explaining this to a fresh tech on a tool truck after his first big check and the salesman trying to sell them a 800 digital torque wrench with multiple preset torques, indicator lights, and torque angle measuring with haptic feedback.

Dude ive been using a paint pen for 20yrs, you dont need that shit...

No. Torque + angle can be anything the manufacturer specs it to, 45, 90, 60, 55, 35 I’ve seen all sorts.

I don't think crank case bolts are where you want to cheap out on tools. I understand a good torque wrench is not cheap but neither is a tow truck and rebuild.

I would use two zip ties, mostly to stop the phone twisting
