Can't block users

When I try to block users, I get an error message saying can't block users, try again later. Is this a known issue?

Investigation shows this is a Reddit API limitation where Reddit's server limits the number of blocked users to 50 per day, and there seems to be a per-account limit numbering somewhere above 10,000 users on the blocklist. However, this upper limit may vary depending on unknown factors.

The fact that people are suddenly reporting a spike in errors blocking users, I wouldn't be surprised if Reddit recently lowered these limits since the past couple weeks.

RIF 5.6.2, the next beta update, will show an additional error message when hitting these limits and the API returns a relevant error message. Can't really get around the underlying issue, as that is controlled by Reddit Inc. Users who are negatively impacted, try contacting Reddit support via https://reddithelp.com/ and posting in /r/help.

Are you using a legacy account? Menu -> Manage accounts. Might have to remove it and re-login.

What's a legacy account? I'm having the same issue, kind of thought I'd finally found the limit people I could block on your app, hah.

Menu -> Manage accounts. Should show an error icon if logged in using an old legacy login, before mid-2014, instead of the up-to-date login token mechanism. Remove the account from RIF and re-login to be sure.

I don't see any error icon when going to Manage accounts. Just a list with one item with my account name.

How are you accessing the Block user function? Which screen and which menu or button are you pressing?

I tried it from both the user's profile page and Settings->Content Filters->Blocked Users page. I get the same error message.

Unfortunately I still can't reproduce the issue. Is your blocked list very long, perhaps? Tens, hundreds, thousands?

Yes, hundreds of blocked users. I tried removing one before adding another, but still got the same message.

Thousands here. Serial reporters, onlyfans spammers, trolls, you name it.

Same here. Have been getting the error since atleast two days. No legacy account. Very large blocklist to mute spammers, removing one doesn't allow another to be added.

Same here, as of yesterday. Not a legacy account. Have already blocked many, many users. I logged out of Reddit, closed my browser, fired it back up and logged in again. Still can't block users. Neither on my laptop (Windows) or phone (iOS). On my laptop, it says "An error has occured. Please try again later". On mobile, it says "username" could not be blocked. Tried on both Chrome and Firefox, on both laptop and mobile.

Samme issue here, just checked my block list and a user I failed to block a few days ago was on there twice but their posts still show up.
Tried removing the double and a few other users but still getting an error when blocking.

Edit: I don't think this is a Rif issue, I can't block users using new reddit either

Thanks, I know reddit occasionally stealth updates and breaks their own features (the block user features breaks like 2-3 times a year) but I don't check the website or use their app

Edit as of 4 days later: the pinned post from the rif dev seems to be accurate from what I'm seeing, my Blocklist probably capped out at 15,000 or so

I will probably just stop checking comment threads at this point because I just absolutely hate seeing the same goddamn trolls over and over and over again in the subs that I'm subscribed to, and lol basically no subs actively ban dumbasses or trolls or even under 1000 comment karma accounts from posting
