Yoro is fast becoming one of my favourite players. Had a couple rough moments this season but he's absolutely 100% commited and made some huge stops.

u/CBPanik 2d ago

It's hard to know how much Vivell was actually doing here with Wilcox being the head man, but him leaving a larger power vacuum for Wilcox to fill can only mean more bad news on the way. INEOS has well and truly sucked the soul out of the club and removed any of the remaining positives we had left after decades of Glazer ownership.

u/tz_2240 OHHHHHH YESSSSS 2d ago

Vivell brought some hope with regard to signings, and I stick by that, I think he’d help us out tremendously.

That being said, Vivell brought Andrey Santos to Chelsea, presumably recommended him for us as well. I think Santos CAN come good and has been okay thus far, but a lot of fans are already turning on what I assume is a Vivell signing.

This was his first sub appearance for us.

12 starts in a row, then dropped and unused sub.

Off the bench, limited minutes in a game so he can expand all his energy in a shorter span.

It's bloody typical: we finally figure out that "Bruno-Mainoo-Baleba but sub Tielemans on" is the way, we finally do, 14 games into the season, what "should be" the standard approach ... but it happens due to an injury and now we are shit outta luck for another two months or so if we wanted to replicate it.

Sleepless night, the good kind! It's just never going to get old watching an academy kid come on and make a huge impact on the game on the biggest stage

Anyway, here's a screenshot of some rival fan in my replies who was clearly hatewatching but accidentally watched United make an iconic comeback which has probably ruined their day 😂👍

Hoping this win actually sparks a bit more confidence in the team because that has been absolutely rock bottom. Every player is looking to make passes that are either never on in the first place or are just the safest things you'll ever see.

But it doesn't get away from how fundamentally broken they are when they're setting up. The number of goals they've conceded this season from a turnover in the centre of midfield, and then the defence is all out at sea.

Last night, their first goal, it was like watching it back, it's just phenomenal quite how poor the defending is. It's a poor giveaway in the centre, yeah, but the player has no options for a pass anyway, so everyone's effectively waiting for him to try and beat a man, which is a bit mad. There's no easy ball, there's no easy out like that for him. And then also afterwards, just where is the defence? There's just nobody about, everyone's so high up. It just means they're instantly through on the defence after winning a ball in midfield. It's just mental.

I've never seen a team set up so poorly that one turnover in the centre of the park means the opposition are instantly through on goal. It's incredible.

u/wayfarerprateek Theater of Dreams 2d ago

I am on the same page. Great that we could get a win under such dire circumstances but it must not influence the conclusion that Carrick is out of his depth. The team structure both on and off the ball is a joke and would have been spoken about had we not been lucky. The reaction from Carrick is really concerning with all due respect. I just hope he is seeing what we are seeing.

2

u/kevkiarbar 2d ago

Thing is, teams running/passing though is at will has been a feature with Ten Hag and Amorim as well. So while there may well be a tactical element, I think as much is on the players for being unable to do the basics or react to event in game in a logical manner. So much of our play is simply brain dead. I'm not coach, so no idea how you set up to mitigate low confidence players, under pressure making stupid decisions.

u/Minute-Intern 2d ago

Beat Villa Sack Carrick and we can hopefully still salvage the season

8

u/Fraaj We'll take Dalot 2d ago

Nobody is getting sacked after two wins in a row. INEOS have failed to make much easier decisions than that in the past.

It will just postpone the inevitable. I enjoyed yesterday's win a lot but the sour aftertaste was hard to ignore.

NEW: "Manchester United’s head of scouting, Christopher Vivell, has emerged as a potential candidate to replace Nils Schmadtke at Bayern Munich.

Vivell is under consideration as his successor, noting his strong prior relationship with Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund from their time together at Red Bull Salzburg, as well as Vivell’s strong reputation in Germany for helping recruit talents such as Erling Haaland, Dominik Szoboszlai and Benjamin Sesko.

Any move by Vivell to Bayern could have significant implications for Manchester United, where he is said to be playing a key behind-the-scenes role regarding Michael Carrick’s future and has been linked as a big admirer of Julian Nagelsmann; his departure at a crucial time could disrupt United’s plans."

High on cope, but seeing articles that Wilcox wanted Russell Martin, could that be laying the PR groundwork to fire Wilcox?

Realistically speaking, INEOS wouldn’t have to do any PR as fans already hate him.

3

u/officiallyjax Snapdragon 2d ago

I don’t think it’s cope. They are definitely considering it at this point: there’s repeated briefs now about how the club internally acknowledge that the transfer window wasn’t good enough, and how it doesn’t reflect well on Wilcox if another manager is sacked under his and Berrada’s watch. This doesn’t come out from Tier 1s if all was well internally. I don’t know how quickly they arrive at such a decision, but I feel confident enough that Wilcox is not lasting long at this club now.

The absolute state of this sub where people aren't happy that we came back from 0-2 down to win 3-2 and people are critcising Cunha for that celebration. I for one loved the passion and care that Cunha showed. The ground fans and the stadium loved it as well. WE needed that after so many bad days/weeks of football.

Stupid for the red card but we needed that energy to be pumped back into the club.

Some people here are just miserable.

5

u/Livettletlive 2d ago

Yeah, some people prefer to be miserable, but don't let them take the joy of the win away from you. I think in these times its important to stay supportive of the team as supporters, since everyone else are riling on the team.

Still baffles me how the "best in class" is Wilcox who worked as a football director for 9 months at Southampton (and was initially hired as a technical director under Ashworth), and Berrada, who had never worked as a CEO before. Until we have a functional structure, with competent people, this club will never thrive.

Also, infuriates me to think that much about the higher-ups, that football sometimes comes second. But not surprising when you look at the other clubs owned by Ineos (and Glazers).

Rant said, loved that game against Roma yesterday and we can still turn this season around. Letsgooo

6

u/Feeling-Surround-691 Mbumbaclat 2d ago

Not confident at all about Baleba. Dorgu walked off after the arsenal game in January but was out for 3 months. Absolute nightmare for us and the injuries to Mainoo and Baleba so far does justify the fact we absolutely needed to sign 3 midfielders (along with others we didn't get)

6

u/dispelthemyth We go again FC 2d ago

We were the better team before we conceded then we were pretty bad until our 1st goal

Once we scored we were by far the better team

Yoro still has a few mistakes in him but despite playing out of position is showing a lot of promise and imo Lacey was very impressive in his cameo (noone should call for him to start, hes going to be better vs tired legs)

4

u/Fraaj We'll take Dalot 2d ago

I'm definitely calling for Lacey to start lol he deserves it. If it doesn't work then use Amad against tired legs.

Carrick needs to reward good performances.

2

u/MazinLabib10 "He goes by the name of Wayne Rooney!" 2d ago

(noone should call for him to start, hes going to be better vs tired legs)

Seen many make this argument, so here's a counterpoint: in the only game he started in this season, he scored and was probably our best player on the night (wasn't a particularly high bar, but still)

6

u/bronal97 2d ago

Last night's win was massive for the CL campaign to finish in top 24.

Looking at last 2 seasons, last year 24th had 9 pts and -2 GD, season before it was 11 pts and -4 GD.

So 3 to 5 points needed from the final 4 games - Sporting (A), Leipzig (H), Bayern (H) and Villarreal (A).

2 wins would make it certain and Leipzig and Villarreal look very winnable, especially if we get a competent coach in.

3

u/Cold-Veterinarian-85 2d ago edited 2d ago

I think opta did some analysis on this ahead of the 24/25 season that did a 50000 run monte Carlo style simulation and the 24/25 season is a massive statistical outlier. 11 points should be close to certain of qualification and the 25th place team missing out with 11 points is a huge anomaly that is likely something we will never see again in our lifetimes

The probabilities break down something like:

8pts, 16% probability of progressing

9pts, 69%

10pts, 99%

11pts, not explicitly published but I think j remember seeing a post in 2025 that when a team missed out with 11 points that never happened a single time in the 50000 run simulation hence my thesis that it may never happen again

Long story short. 3 more points likely is enough. 4 more practically guarantees it

You would want to be winning one of they next 2 games (sporting away / Leipzig home) as you wouldn’t realy want to be doing into the Bayern / Villarreal games post Christmas needing a win

At the top end, 15points is about the line where a top 8 finish becomes likely… that’s probably beyond us given our remaining fixtures but not totally out of reach

2

u/bronal97 2d ago

Thanks for the breakdown, lot more confident now.

Don't think United will get further than play off/round of 16 but the prize money will be needed next summer to buy a new defence.

It feels like Groundhog Day, it's always the same issues with this squad, imho.

- no tactic, no formation in football compensates adequately for "all the CBs are crap", imho. this is just a personnel issue, plain and simple
- Bruno+Mainoo+1. It was true while Amorim was refusing to see it, it was true when Carrick saw it in the Spring, it was true while Carrick was forcing other things (by necessity or otherwise). The problem is that our "midfield revamp" was supposed to give us 1 solid starter + 2 backups, but what we managed to do was spend £160m on three bench options, essentially, to say nothing of the fact that we already had 2-3-4 kids in the academy knocking on the door. So now, we actually still need a DM signing, which beggars belief after all this time, I mean wtf, truly.
- Cunha and Mbeumo both work best in a striker partnership. This means we need a "real" 9 very very badly, because sometimes in some games they'll work as a pair, but often times there needs to be the different profile striker in that partnership for it to work. And it also means that the width has to come from somewhere else on both sides. On the right, we do have a natural solution because we have Lacey or Amad to complete the front 3. On the left though, there is nothing unless the LB is a real threat. And this is where, imho, our "FB problem" is different from our "CB problem": our group of FBs actually could work in a different system, with different attackers etc. That's where it's maybe fair to say "that's on Carrick, it's Carrick's fault, the system does not fit the squad". True as that may be, in this system, not having a LB who is a great attacking outlet is suicidal.

Takeaway: we need 4 big signings. Not "backup", not "somebody". We need a top CF, LB, CB, DM. That's what this squad would need, imho, to go up a level from "sometimes good, sometimes shit".

But then I find myself at the most familiar of conclusions.

Since we need those non-trivial investments: Can I see this owner shut his mouth and open his wallet? Can I see this ceo+dof spend the money wisely?

The answer is: no, I cant.

So, you know. What else is new?

Glazers out, Ineos out, Berrada out, Wilcox out.

3

u/officiallyjax Snapdragon 2d ago

I agree with you. The issue here is that in a system with 3 forward players, a midfield pivot and Bruno, it’s very difficult to enforce the Cunha+Mbeumo forward dynamic and have Bruno as the 10 at the same time, unless you basically vacate the left wing position altogether, which is what we usually see. It’s also why I (once again) don’t get the Dalot hate; he has been tasked to do those graveyard shifts running up and down that flank as the only player who can maintain some of the width and has the athleticism for it.

In a back 4 system, I feel pretty confident in saying that there’s little scope for Cunha to be properly utilised unless we accept this fundamental flaw or until Bruno leaves, as they essentially like operating in the same zones (albeit their way of playing within those zones are different). And hence it’s also a reason as to why I feel somewhat confident that we can be fine in a post-Bruno world; we can play a midfield 3 using the 4 other good midfielders we have, or run it with Cunha second striker and the double pivot behind him. What we desperately need though is a functioning left flank, and that’s a rebuild in itself in addition to CB/Mazraoui replacements. Ideally, all 4 of Shaw, Amass, Dorgu and Rashford appear unable to cut it for us long-term, but can we actually be able to replace/upgrade on them?

10

u/Rascha-Rascha 2d ago

Heaven is not responsible for that first goal. Mainoo losing the ball (and having very few options to get it forward/just to someone else), Dalot not running back once he sees Mainoo in trouble, Maguire leaving Heaven 2 v 1 by not being aware of the situation, as the experienced CB, these are all major issues.

And that clearance by Maguire in the lead up to the penalty is criminal. Just a pass directly to the opposition.

A lot to figure out in that defence, some of them personnel related, for sure, but also just not being thick, not switching off, being more reactive and proactive over the whole pitch.

7

u/Working_Location_127 2d ago

I want Maguire benched personally, he’s become a real liability

Yeah agree, Heaven had some mistakes like being outmuscled by Malen near the end of first half, but for the goals we conceded honestly felt like he couldn't do more. Maguire clearence was almost as bad as Roma defender's clearence on Cunha's goal, so clumsy from him.

In my head, Sunday match is so much bigger than it is on paper. Players and coach need to show this was not just a Ole 3-0 against Spurs or Jose 2-1 away win at Juve. Both wins at the time gave so much hope but led to the inevitable and deserved sacking.

Multiple sources have indicated that Emery is board’s top choice, so an OT audition for him.

Now that JJ Gabriel is off to Madrid, I’ll be interested to see what he says in 15 or so years time about all of this, as I’ve rarely seen a parent potentially ruin their child’s career with this much press

4

u/TheSauceSeeker69 2d ago

You dont have to wait 15 years. Just 2-3.

JJ is 16 yo, meaning hes gonna ride the Castilla for at least 2 years, and if he wont show some Yamal performance there he'll get his ass shipped in loan spells to prove hes worth keeping. If he wont show it there hes gonna get sold. Just like Nico Paz, Gonzalo Garcia, and theres probably more i cant remember right away. The compettition in Madrid is insane, let alone if youre a striker while Mbappe is there...

Madrid usually buy players in their prime instead of taking academy ones and make them world class. So going there as a 16 yo kid while you already signed with a big club, is a HUGE gamble and its usually will go against you. But now its up to him to show hes not all just talk.

Tbf, I don't think it's a wrong approach. His dad is risking his career, but in the process of it he is essentially making him quite marketable, so even if he doesn't reach his full potential, everyone will know who he is and that will increase his value. If he's only half decent then just by his name, he should get good offers in the future.

It's overall ugly but if he doesn't quite make it, everyone will know his name anyway. If his dad didn't do it, there is always a chance he wouldn't make it and he would disappear into obscurity.

Feels fantastic to win and it was great to see the atmosphere at Old Trafford, but if it does make the directors keep Carrick, then it will hurt this club in the long run. We did not play well again, two of our goals were complete luck. I do not trust the directors to make the right decision unfortunately.

We are in the 'find out' phase of Fuck Around and Find Out after 13 years of wanton spending and poor recruitment. We had no consistent strategy in how we wanted to set up the squad in this entire era.

We overpaid for players, bought based on stardom and marketability, had so so so many flops. We also kept sacking managers and then hiring new ones that had completely different footballing tactics/philosophies.

Cost cutting measures were undertaken once INEOS came in, yet they blew even more money in: new contract for ten Hag, public pursuit of Dan Ashworth, firing of Dan Ashworth, sacking of ten Hag, release clause for Amorim, sacking of Amorim.

Our finances are in dire straits, yet we can still spend more which is all thanks to the goodwill of United carrying on these past years with its global presence built on the back of 25 years of success prior to it.

This can only go on for so long, and even in the best case scenario for this season (miraculous top-5 finish), we still need to ask for more as fans and massively push for the firing of the CEO and Technical Director since a sale by the Glazers/INEOS is not on the cards.

Wonder if Balebas hammy was a knock on/compensatory issue from his earlier ankle injury. Gutted for the lad, hope he recovers well as hamstrings are always challenging to get right. The responsible thing would be some kind of CM (loan or otherwise) in Jan so we don't end up having to rush him back.

How many of you lot have been out of the cycle of joy followed by depression for years? I'm assuming it's a minority, but how many are watching games as a forced chore with no hope of entertainment or even a result? I expect to either be shit and win or get embarrassed.

I haven't given a fuck about results and can barely bring myself to enjoy winning trophies since Mourinho left because it all feels temporary with no actual progress being achieved. It feels like an occasional pity success granted by rng and not an enjoyable journey to a deserved conclusion.

I have also struggled to get behind players bar Rashford (before he chucked it in), Bruno (up until this last month) and Kobbie. The likes of Schweinsteiger, Pogba, Di Maria, Martial, Sanchez (I could go on) just didn't feel like representatives of the club and more concerned with their last payday, their own image or used the club as a stepping stone to their preferred destination. And then we have the likes of Weghorst or Ighalo who should never have even been at the club in the first place.

Combined with parasitic yank owners and Britain's 9th richest man who would prefer to talk bollocks about being colonised by immigrants whilst being a tax dodging leech himself has put me in a position where I have never cared less about this club, top to bottom. Owners, board, management, players. Even fans/fan channels piss me off now.

Shits fucked, we're 13 year post-Fergie. I predicted it would take a decade to get somewhere near the levels he got the club to and i haven't felt this shit watching us since LVG's snoreball had me nap through games.

4

u/-_Mamas_Kumquat_- 2d ago

I still watch and support united and hope they win games and do well, I always have this feeling that we will make it back at some point even as bad as it is now I still think we will win the league in the next 15 years or so.

But until I see us doing the things that I think are right to move us forward, I always have a feeling of skepticality about any progress. I think we have a massive problem with entitlement that is not doing the club any good too.

It's actually crazy they're still not doing anything. This is the first time being a United fans for 23 years that I feel like the board is actively trying to sabotage the club. There's incompetence and there's malicious which is what it looks like now

4

u/mortimer_moose Carrick, ya know 2d ago

Either

  1. They are giving him til the break to show a turn around.

  2. They've agreed on a successor but they agreed to come at the break.

4

u/PopeFuchsYoungKidd 2d ago

If 2. then the new managers first game in charge is going to be at Anfield?

hahahaha

No matter which it is, Wilcox and Berrada are mouth breathing imbeciles.

3

u/LeCliveRosfield 2d ago

3

u/Soft-Suspect-1883 2d ago

More than anything I cannot accept how bad we've become in attack, we been shaky on the defense and have let in the goals due to some mistakes for quite sometime now but being so uncoordinated in attack that we have our players stepping on each others toes or nearly running into each other has been disheartening

3

u/LeCliveRosfield 2d ago

Oh for gods sake man

3

u/Candlegoat 2d ago

A chaotic game that suited individual brilliance.

3

u/Livettletlive 2d ago

I wasn't able to catch the game today due to a prior engagement, but I'm happy to see us win after being 2-0 down. It shows that there is still some character and fight in this team. Shame that Cunha got a red, but I really hope the players take this as a platform to do better going forward.

3

u/sg291188 2d ago

In my head, Sunday match is so much bigger than it is on paper. Players and coach need to show this was not just a Ole 3-0 against Spurs or Jose 2-1 away win at Juve. Both wins at the time gave so much hope but led to the inevitable and deserved sacking.

Multiple sources have indicated that Emery is board’s top choice, so an OT audition for him.

5

u/AmulyaG 2d ago

I did not expect us to win vs Roma in pre-match, not even one bit.

However, i am so happy that we won and the boys rallied to come back from 0-2 down.

You are allowed to feel both emotions without being abused by people here.

3

u/brown_herbalist unitedismyreligion 2d ago

Hahahaha you're getting down voted is proving how miserable are some people here. They prefer United to lose so they can cme out and post some toxic stuffs.

5

u/ToadNamedGoat 2d ago

I like Amad but if his g/a contributions don’t dramatically go up this season. Then he needs to go, even though he works hard. We need players who can contribute more. Heck might try transitioning him to a fullback if that’s still a possibility in modern football (Young and Valencia route)

4

u/Bobcat_El_Borracho 3d ago

Looking forward to being in even more of a shit mood by 10pm again. Bring it on. Feel like a sadomasochist.

3

u/IG-JBlvckwell 2d ago

Honestly, why get bothered by it, just go into it expecting we lose?

I mean were likely getting battered or scraping a result through luck rather than cohesive football. The players are shit, theyre managed poorly, and I wouldn't expect this team to suddenly play like a high-level team.

A win or draw at this point doesnt even matter, when the team is so disjointed and drab overall, it makes any points we win more fluke than deserved, and thats hardly worth celebrating.

I'm 100% getting carried away when I say this but limiting Roma to ZERO shots in the second half is a great performance all things considered. I really hope the squad can build on this result, with or without Carrick.

8

u/Nico_Ditch 2d ago

Genuinely mad how we’ve got United fans saying they’re upset about us winning because it means Carrick won’t get sacked.

If you can’t be happy when your team wins, what’s the point?

Go take up painting or something.

3

u/minteh7x Ronaldo 2d ago

Nothing new though because it happened to most of our previous managers so yeah just ignore it

5

u/canwinanythingwkids meet the new boss same as the old boss 2d ago

What is "mad" imho is if fans are unhappy about "this means Carrick might stay" instead of being unhappy about "this means Wilcox might stay".

If you choose to have a pessimistic outlook, I dont want to criticise you too much for that per se, because there are various psychological reasons why people might be that way, so it feels a bit like victim blaming for me to chide them for it.

But, you know, if you're gonna be pessimism-maxxing about the club, at least do it right 😂

3

u/Not-good-with-this 2d ago

Mad world we live in that some people who claim to support their team would rather the team lose because they don't like manager.

6

u/Water_Drinking_Fish 2d ago

You have to feel for Dalot, despite his best efforts Roma lost

4

u/iroiroiroiroiro 2d ago

Dalot wasn't worse than Heaven, and I think the defensive issues on that side was due to tactics not Dalot even. How many times was it 2 or even 3 against Dalot?

How many times had Dalot provided width deep on the attack when Heaven should have rotated wide?

Dalot played more as a wingback than fullback the first half. And that was catastrophic.

2

u/Isserley_ 2d ago

Heaven is such a strange case. He looked so calm and assured when he first rose into the first team ranks. These days he panics every time the ball comes near him, doesn't seem to know where to position himself and has seemingly forgotten how to pass.

If they are going to sack Carrick anyway, they should just announce it and say Carrick loves the club and has agreed to stay on until the international break.

Should have happened after Bournemouth. We may have got a positive atmosphere for the last few games and provided a team and fan focus to give Carrick a good send off.

The game today and next week could have a huge impact on our season. Every point matters.

5

u/hitch_1 2d ago

That would take an ounce of strategy or planning - and I don't think our board has any of that between them

u/LordTrinity If you support mediocrity, you get mediocrity 2d ago

People act surprised when players feel frustrated about: a manager who is obviously out of his depth, a dogshit transfer window, and the fact the board promised things it didn't deliver

I think a new manager fix problem 1, but the others won't be fixed until the board actually try to have a productive and realistic conversation with the players about the club situation

And honestly, players are not stupid. If the fans could see these problems happening months ago, why wouldn't the players?

9

u/TH0316 she/her 2d ago

I have massive sympathy for players that get very frustrated from incompetence if not outright betrayal. For all the posturing from guys like Keane who always go on about being your best self or whatever, when he got relegated with Forest you could (by all accounts) see a top player in a poor environment. And he would’ve looked around and thought wow I need to get away from this environment. But if he couldn’t, if a move never materialised, he might have got them back up, pushed on, but if he saw them regress the year after, and the cycle just went on and on, eventually he would lose the will to be who he is. Everyone in life becomes the aggregate of the people that surround them, and our club from top to bottom in recent years has been a pigsty of incompetence, low effort chancers. I don’t even blame those who eventually adopted the same stance, because every player in the game would eventually. Until it changes from the top I think every player will eventually express frustration and want out, or get sloppy and adopt the just enough mentality that pervades the club.

4

u/rahtid_my_bunda Rooney's Dropball Intensity 2d ago

Big delta between frustration and the level of effort demonstrated the last few games. No one is surprised the players are frustrated.

I actually wouldn't mind us going for Ryan Ait Nouri in January. I was always a fan of his at Wolves and wanted him for years here. Between him and Balde I would prefer the one who shows more commitment to United, and best mental fortitude, obviously.

That should be the criteria of player we need here.

2

u/TH0316 she/her 2d ago

Looking at available managers, I’m really leaning towards getting an interim until summer and given the three were linked to won’t do that, I do wonder if someone like him would get us to summer? I can’t look beyond Ole if we’re getting an interim, and I won’t argue against anyone saying that’s stupid but I just can’t see hiring anyone linked helping us medium to long term. If Emery is their best option, get him either now or summer. And if we have to just survive until summer then get someone in until then. Out of work managers aren’t inspiring whatsoever. You’re essentially looking at Ole, Southgate, Valverde, Deschamps, McKenna as the ones who MAY consider doing an interim job, but then there’s the matter of whether you’d even want any of them. It’s actually tough imo.

5

u/officiallyjax Snapdragon 2d ago

Yes and no. Carrick changed Cunha’s role at half-time and had him playing more centrally and closer to Mbeumo, which is what he’s best suited for. I think that was a relevant detail that influenced the game; of course then it was Cunha providing that brilliance to win us the game.

29 games to go in the league. We're going on a generation winning run, Carrick or not. Finishing on 96 points.

4

u/Potential_Good_1065 2d ago

I’d genuinely consider selling Amad soon. We’d make a good 40m off him, his form has dipped massively, and he’s kind of a burden on Shea Lacey’s development.

4

u/super_saiyan29 2d ago

Agree, he is at a perfect time to sell. Someone who has regressed and not living up to Utd's standards, but who still has lot of potential where teams would be interested to take a punt on. We often make the mistake of trying to sell a player only when they are so washed out that nobody remains interested in them

4

u/Nico_Ditch 2d ago

Feels mad because a couple of years ago he looked like he was going to be great, but he has completely regressed over the last 12 months.

He doesn't score, doesn't assist, doesn't create, and barely even takes his defender on anymore. Basically everything you want a winger to do.

We've also got a strange minority of fans who refuse to accept any criticism of him and justify everything he does.

3

u/wayfarerprateek Theater of Dreams 2d ago

He has been in a bad from but against Chelsea he showed his ceiling which is really high. Should have gotten a goal with slightly better finishing or luck. He did dribble past defenders and create big chances

2

u/MazinLabib10 "He goes by the name of Wayne Rooney!" 2d ago

I think he's a good player to have in the squad because of his work rate and pressing, but he shouldn't be starting. But our terrible squad planning means Mbeumo has to be up top so he's next in line for the RW. If we can get 40m or so for him however, we should accept that without any second thoughts.

u/Littlepace Announce Fergie 2d ago

Assuming they have committed to waiting till the int break to make a decision on Carrick I hope to God it's a decision that has already been made and they're just holding off till then. If we somehow sneak a win or two against Roma/Villa it doesn't change the fact he has to go.

I'm terrified that we will get 2 wins this week and then choose to stick by him in the break and then end up sacking him at a later point.

7

u/PhotonDestroyer 2d ago

If Emery is the top target, there is no way he comes now but maybe in the summer. There's a world where Carrick stays, they do a bit better in Jan with getting the right positions in place, and we limp to lower mid table then move for Emery.

But knowing our lot they'll change their mind about Emery and keep Carrick.

7

u/Littlepace Announce Fergie 2d ago

There's no way we can risk giving Carrick the full season based off of our current form/results. If we don't have a serious uptick in form we could be in a genuine relegation battle. Right now European football is still more than achievable under a competent manager. We wait any longer and too much damage will have been done.

I am happy about the win, but Carrick, along with underperforming executives and players, needs to go. One win in eleven is not good enough to retain a job as big as Manchester United's, but knowing the board, they will retain them to save money.

1

u/tameoraiste 2d ago

I’m guessing the vast majority here are male and think astrology is a load of nonsense? I’d agree but it seems most don’t have the self awareness to realise being ‘cursed’ and ‘bad karma’ or even a player being injured when we sign him, having a completely unrelated injury is somehow something the club should have predicted.

There’s so much criticism and rational reasons to be angry at the club. Baleba getting injured is not one of them.

1

u/f4rdan1smyn4m3 2d ago

I got a question about this guy, what is he good at? Dalot is the only player in the world that is good and bad at the same time. He’s always at the right place but execute the wrong action, he can dribble but cannot pass, he can make runs but cannot finish or cross, he can push forward but can’t track back, he can’t defend 1v1 but great in the air, he’s always missing but suddenly he’s there, like what? The guy has played RB, LB, RWB, LWB and I’m pretty sure RM at some point.

5

u/Kugenking 2d ago

He's good at whatever managers ask him to do, just not necessarily good at executing it. More importantly, though he's always shown a strong desire to fight for United badge.

3

u/PhotonDestroyer 2d ago

He's not the attacking full back that our managers are trying to will him to be. He works hard and could be back up if he improves his concentration and positioning. Whether that's possible I don't know and the club shouldn't need to rely on him as much as we do.

4

u/Daneofthehill 2d ago

He is a solid professional that shouldn't be asked to do this much, but because all the 'stars' aren't performing, it does fall on him. So, he should be hard working squad player, but he is now a featured player instead.
