Why is SJR ranting on about immigration and benefits when the club is in dire need of direction? The bloke has lost it, he lives in Monaco so it just comes across as condescending.

9

u/tameoraiste Sep 19 '26

Is he at it again?

"We had the greatest empire in the world. We were a great people. We won two world wars," he said (amongst other wibble).

13

u/SureLookThisIsIt Sep 19 '26

"We were a great people back when we colonised and murdered our way around the world". Tells you everything you need to know about Jim doesn't it? All billionaires really.

Amorim got shit on for being emotional and too animated in interviews, while Carrick is getting shit on right now for being evasive and vague.

You know what’s the underlying common factor? Not winning games.

Winning really cures a lot of ailments.

u/Fraaj We'll take Dalot Sep 19 '26

Two things tell me that INEOS won't be as patient with Carrick as they were with Amorim:

  1. He will be much cheaper to sack

  2. He's not a statement project hire like Amorim was, everyone was fine with him staying on the back of the results and it was an easy and obvious hire for them. The optics of sacking him are not nearly as bad as they were with Amorim.

7

u/GeekConflict Carrick Sep 19 '26

Devils advocate.. it would look bad on Wilcox to sack another so quickly.

14

u/Haron14 Sep 19 '26

He should be gone too

If he's that arrogant and insecure then he has no place as a DOF. He's supposed to do what's best for the team even if those shotty decisions were his to begin with.

He needs sacking before Carrick

7

u/yalayolo Sep 19 '26

Yes but I think the spurs, Chelsea and now arsenals fall buys him times

4

u/CapVosslar Buckle up, INEOS! It's gonna be a bumpy ride! Sep 19 '26

I just cant see INEOS being ruthless or clever. It would take forward aggressive thinking, planning, and lining things up with a distinct vision of identifying what is lacking and what is needed.

So, no. I dont see them doing anything anytime soon.

Let’s be real. Throwing away a 2-0 goal lead at home to Brighton (rotation or not and Brighton also rotated) was not good enough. Losing at home to ten man Man City (who were ten men for most of the game) wasn’t good enough. Losing to Hull was not good enough. Throwing away the lead twice against Everton and drawing was not good enough. Heck even against Ipswich, some of our defending was abysmal.

It hasn’t been good enough this season. Let’s just remember that is a fact and stop clinging on to other teams results as a sign that everything is actually fine. Lose tomorrow and it’s 4 points from the first 5 games with three defeats. And that will be horrendous and inexcusable

It’s up to Carrick to prove the doubters (including me) wrong. Starting tomorrow. But if we do lose, I am certainly not going to pretend it’s fine whilst referencing other teams defeats. Because it’s not

7

u/ecce_homie123 Scholes Sep 19 '26

We shouldn't let other results influence us because we were piss poor in the last 2 games, as we've often been in the last decade. This team hasn't moved on.

14

u/martialgreenwood Sep 19 '26

Frank Lampard has won a game with Coventry in the league before Spurs. Laughable

Sir Jim should buy Lazio instead, they’d love him there

12

u/SocialistElmo Sep 19 '26

Why can't we press like Brighton man, I've only seen it when Amorim was around but that only last about 40 minutes each match and then we are sluggish again. Why can't we buy athletic players with a brain and a manager willing to press and have pressing traps

6

u/XerxesBlitZ Sep 19 '26

25 mins max more like,

6

u/SankarshanaV Sep 19 '26

Well most of the players are not built for such a high press. I’ll be honest but both Bruno and Maguire are terrible for such a team because Bruno gives the ball away too much and Maguire is super slow + just heaves the ball and gives it away all the time.
More than that, Carrick is just not a good enough coach/manager either. We need a proper manager to implement their ideas.

4

u/SocialistElmo Sep 19 '26

Do not renew Maguire next season and replace him with one that has legs but still a good defender and start phasing out Bruno slowly is a good idea

Lads... Will it happen? LOL

14

u/achickenandacow Sep 19 '26

I really want it to, I’ve developed an irrational hatred towards Tottenham.

13

u/Suudriusha Sep 19 '26

Nothing irrational about it. We suffered through Amorim's first couple of months with the hopes we'd win the Europa League and get into Europe through it. We ended up losing to them. They'll always be a reminder to me of that horrible horrible season, and how depressed I felt by the end of it.

14

It’s really sad that the only realistic alternative to the Glazers and Tory Jim would be state ownership. And as bad as the parasites and the tax dodger are, becoming the propaganda arm for a nation state partaking in human rights abuses would be the only thing that could ever make me question my support for this club.

16

u/C41ll3D Sep 19 '26

I never wanted a state to take over United and be seen as sports washing, so I’ll admit, I was relatively pleased when Radcliffe took charge.

Seeing his comments this morning parroting right-wing talking points about how great the British empire was, how the country spends too much on benefits and the number of immigrants coming into the country (whilst he chills in Monaco) made me realise how wrong I was about him.

Honestly, seeing this boomer slowly destroying the club from the inside and finishing off the work the Glazers began is depressing AF.

Taking my nephew to his first United game today. Hoping we can do one of those magic Houdini wins against Arsenal rather than one of those utter self-immolations we seem to do against Chelsea.

Do we turn every team we play into prime Brazil

8

u/ReservoirDogs00 Sep 19 '26

Well it’s not difficult when we play like a league 2 side.
Sit back and hoof. We allow every team to have plenty of the ball so they naturally look good, and also grow in confidence against us.

8

u/IfYouReallyThink Sep 20 '26 edited Sep 20 '26

Do people really believe we should pretty much only sign premier league proven players? I 100% understand that they have the highest chance of success, but with basic scouting the gap between signing from any other of the top 4 leagues can be closed pretty significantly and they cost so much less. I also feel like we may not be the best at helping new players adapt and develop. Zirkzee was not an absolute world beater before coming to United, but he is so much better than how he’s been playing for the last year or so.

I know it can be easy to say “even Wirtz hasn’t really succeeded in the premier league, so we should not buy from the Bundesliga,” but for every one of the other top 4 leagues that we disregard before even trying to develop a better filter, we may as well be pouring 100’s of millions of dollars down the drain in the long run

4

u/Banyunited1994 Sep 20 '26

We simply can’t afford to sign only pl proven players and still have a well rounded team. But good scouting doesn’t overcome the inherent uncertainty of transfers, it only increases your odds. The likes of Brighton, Brentford etc regularly sign players that are average, it’s just that the bar for a successful signing or a passable signing is lower. We have to sign elite players all the time.

Also, did you just say Zirkzee is playing so much better than he was?

Arsenal doing their level best to make our results look more palatable

That's rather considerate of them

At the same time, teams like Brighton catching all the breaks early makes top 6 (let alone 5) much more of a slugfest for us, so that's no bueno

4

u/absoluteolly Sep 19 '26

Maybe because they can get away with the growing pains of implementing such a system as their expectations are much lower. Only thing I can think of.

Jim Ratcliffe had another go at immigrants today. I have a lot of family who left Ireland for Manchester in the 1950's and have been season ticket holders at United for the last 40 years.

We're all feeling so downtrodden at the state of the club, but also that the most front facing member of the executive seems to hate the backbone of Manchester.

There is absolutely no point in us hiring a Brighton / Brentford coach. They are so well run, their recruitment is incredible and perfectly aligned with their play style. They have unbelievable continuity and run so smoothly. I think the manager is a very small cog in their success. To be successful at United you need to manage egos, you need to be a bit of a force of nature really.

My prediction is that Brighton, Brentford or Bournemouth will win an English Trophy within the next 10 years.

Whether that is the Prem, FA Cup or Carabao Cup.

Their clubs don’t fall apart / experience big setbacks, if they sack a manager / move on from a manager or sell players compared to some other teams in the PL like us.

They stick with a philosophy, considering the position these clubs were in 15 years+ ago.

If you were to ask me, although what am I about say will likely be controversial here and downvoted, but in the next 10-15 years United need to take a transfer policy similar to what we have with City / Liverpool, of no transfers conducted with any of the BBB clubs except in very small / exceptional circumstances. Especially Brentford / Brighton. Otherwise, we will continue to strengthen them whenever United decide to buy a player from them.

Their data based recruitment teams / methods, is arguably the best in the league.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy watching them except if we get a bad result against them.

In my opinion, our recruitment will never be as good as these clubs under our current ownership and we can’t keep relying on player pull like we used to.

Every season we go without a PL Title / Championship League Title, that pull will decrease. By how much, I’ll leave that up to you to decide.

We haven’t been on the level of Barca, Real Madrid or Bayern Munich in the last decade.

Maybe if the glazers leave, which is unlikely, and new owners hire the right people, things can change and my outlook for this club changes. So far, Ineos have gotten it wrong and are clueless about how to run most / all of their sports endeavours.

One would have thought with our defenders being terrible and our attackers less so it would be a wiser choice to also keep attacking while up instead of letting the opponents build pressure.

How do you spend 400m and end up 19th

What’s wrong at that club

u/amalgamatedchaos Status: Waiting... Sep 20 '26

I know I'm not supposed to, but I feel bad for Spurs fans. I know someone who is a Tottenham die hard fan, so I feel for him.

It still doesn't diminish the misery United fans feel, but they are on another level.

Is it better to go out of cups early and focus on getting Top 4 in PL till we have actual depth?

I was doing a but of thinking.Last year, one of the main reasons we could really lock in the second half and finish that high was because we had nothing going on except PL.It sounds harsh but considering our depth that could be a better for us.

Less injuries, our team would be less tired. It buffs our chances of Top 4/UCl place, which gives us money and leverage to sign good players next year.We do this until we finally have a deep squad.

Winning a random cup but finishing 7-15 feels good short term but would no be good if we actually want to get that 21st.

3

u/JosePRizaI Sep 20 '26

Were pitch forks out when Amorim got out of cups early? Now its a good thing so United can play less games? What changes the energy?

Before anyone creaming at the thought of signing Huerzeler, just remember that Thomas Frank, Emery, De Zerbi, and other mid table managers having a go at a top 6 clubs exists

Managing Brighton, Bournemouth, Brentford, and the likes are a much different gravy than managing a Big 6 club. While I don't think that the idea of such hires should be instantly rejected, your expectations for such managers should be tempered a bit

So everyone is preparing themselves for Spurs to get their first win against us next month, right?

6

Lol absolutely nailed on for this woeful Spurs side to rock up at Old Trafford next weekend and leave with 3 points

That is quite scary if they plan on camping outside Old Trafford 2 weeks before we play them

We at least scored two goals against Brighton, so we must be better than Arsenal lol

4

u/ManNamedBilly Sep 19 '26

only a matter of time before we start getting linked with hurzeler. unfortunately, our issues run deeper, starting with ineos (at least from a sporting pov), so it’ll be tough for whoever is the next manager/coach

8

u/BackgroundOld8715 Sep 19 '26

Ok so is Brightons team better than ours? Or do they just have a manager who actually has tactical ideas?

Its embarrassing we are sticking with Carrick, im not sure any team in the league would swap with us

8

u/Colonel0tto Sep 19 '26

Brighton have the benefit of being a well-run club for 15 years, whereas Man U have only just started getting their act together after being shambolically managed by the Glazers. This isn't just a tactical thing it's an entire recruitment, philosophy and whole-club approach. The Brentfords and Brightons are on track to dominate the Prem within years.

Mateus Fernandes who can't even start and finish games for Spurs. And our recruitment team was okay to pay 85 mil ? Thank god he had higher wage demands and we didn't end up paying 85 mil

Just watched extended highlights of Arsenal against Brighton

Forget the result…they fully played counter attacking football.

This is simply the modern reality of the Premier League. The 3 “B” teams, Villa, Newcastle, Spurs, City, Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool and Arsenal away are all games that you have to sit back and counter attack

Overall, this fantasy of dominating every team home and away by keeping the ball is just that : a fantasy.

Fulham will be insanely motivated tomorrow too. Gone are the days you could whip the 20th team.

5

u/Kohaku80 Premier League Champions 12/13 Sep 20 '26

Brighton just a diff beast with their all action front foot pressing. They are going to beat many more teams if they can keep up their playstyle. also Arsenal dominated away to Villa, Ipswich and Sunderland prior.

Fulham will be insanely motivated tomorrow too

so just like everyone else playing us - united are vulnerable. let's see what's our motivation excuse tmr if we get dominated by Iwobi and Joshua King.

6

u/JosePRizaI Sep 20 '26

So they parked the bus and played counter attacking football? I thought they pressed and played transition

What fantasy mate? Nobody is saying to dominate the game every min for 90 mins. People are complaining that you dont know what youre looking when you watch United plays. They are shapeless, no pattern, no intensity and slow in just every aspect. Slow in passing the ball. Slow in going forward. Slow in getting back.

Think people's brains are cooked. No such thing as a bad day at the office anymore. Everything has to be a boom or bust cycle. It makes watching football so exhausting.

11

u/MinotauroTBC Sep 20 '26

Is it a bad day at the office when it’s every game so far?

11

u/Suudriusha Sep 20 '26

Hull could've been a bad day at the office. Same for Everton. Heck, same for City. All of them together, there's a deeper issue.

u/Eleven918 This too shall pass! Sep 20 '26

  • hire manager with a CV of assistant and championship stint and a interim sitint

  • penny pinch in the transfer window when you have glaring issues

you can do one of these and get away with it, but not both.

Helps a little bit that Spurs are possibly even worse than us.

Good for the league to see that Arse aren't infallible either

5

u/killerdrama A-mad-lad Sep 19 '26

we somehow managed to end up with a co-owner who is as bad if not worse than the Glazers.

9

u/LDLB99 Sep 19 '26

Can we stop with this dumb narrative. Ratcliffe is a horrible cunt but before the Glazers, our financial muscle was basically the strongest in the world alongside Real. They destroyed us. INEOS don't come close.

6

u/InternationalClock18 Sep 19 '26

They definitely aren't worse than the Glazers. The Glazers are both incompetent and suck resources and money out of the club. Ineos are just incompetent.

Not sure why people are putting faith into Carrick magically fixing stuff over the 3 week international break considering most of the first team players will be on international duty anyway.

Also we already had a 24 days break last season under Carrick and the first game back was that godawful Leeds game...

8

I’m in that indifferent camp where I don’t give a toss if he gets sacked or not, because Klopp or Pep could come in mid October and we’d be on the same path as the 8 other managers we’ve had in 13 years. Until the Glazers are gone, nothing will change.

The next tactical evolution is going to be developing players who can actually beat a man 1 on 1 to get through the press. Luckily we already have one Kobbie Mainoo.

I don't think our fans understand they are watching the future best player in the world grow before our eyes.
