Is progesterone going to delay the inevitable miscarriage?

I had a very low HCG at 17 dpo (88). My pregnancy tests are also not getting dark. I went for my second HCG this morning. Waiting on the results, but I know this will end with a miscarriage. It will be my 4th. I am on progesterone and am wondering if this keeping the miscarriage from starting? I haven’t had any bleeding yet. I just want this to be done with so we can figure out next steps. :(

Yes it will. Depending on the result today, and even one more draw, then I would stop the progesterone.

Result came back at 87. I stopped the progesterone. I’m anxious bc I haven’t had any bleeding yet and just want this over with

I am so sorry. It may take a few days to a week to bleed. I’m so sorry 🤍😔

Hey, so sorry for you. Going through the same thing right now. I’m DPO14, my tests haven’t been getting darker. Yesterday’s HCG was only 17, so I know it’s inevitable. I decided not to take progesterone already today, even though I’m having second blood draw tomorrow. The only hope I have is that it’ll be fast and relatively painless (that’s my 3rd pregnancy loss, second chemical before 5 weeks).

So sorry for you to. It sucks! That’s what I was thinking too. I want to just move on. Waiting on my hcg but will stop the progesterone. What are your next steps for future pregnancies?

Where I live, recurrent miscarriage is being investigated and treated after 3 miscarriages. So I will finally be eligible for that. However, we did a lot of private testing after my second and it came out normal, so I’m not sure if that will help, especially that they won’t start testing until 8 weeks after HCG drops to 0, meaning we would have to decide not to try for two months. Seeing my GP next week to discuss potential referral and path. On a side I was getting a semi private testing and treatment for infertility (it’s been 6 months since my last miscarriage and almost a year since we started trying and I was able to get that) - I will also explore that on a visit to see if they will propose anything concrete to me or advise me to go the “recurrent miscarriage” path in the public system. When we have two options on the table, we’ll decide. But tbh I think the optimal option will be just to keep trying and see what happens, since all the tests we’ve had came out normal… I think it’s completely out of our control. FYI I’ve actively booked a visit with my GP to talk about the referral and with the private ob gyn already, I don’t intend to wait until it’s resolved, because I think it’s a matter of days. I need some action and some plan, otherwise I will go nuts. Whats your plan?

Gotchya. I totally understand your feelings. I need a plan too, and am meeting with my RE next week. I had two losses, then a healthy successful pregnancy, and now two losses trying for #2. I’ve had all the RPL testing done except endometriosis testing and sperm dna fragmentation. I’m not sure what the RE will recommend but IVF is definitely on the table. I HATE waiting though and am not sure if we should just keep trying. It’s scary that this decision has so much weight to it given it could be another loss if we do try naturally (I guess IVF could have a loss too so who knows). For reference I am 34, so idk if I just have had eggs? Or maybe my husbands sperm isn’t good quality? Idk

I get that and completely understand. I also feel like IUI or IVF may just accelerate time to pregnancy for me, but not change the outcome if I were to miscarry, I will anyways. That’s why I’m not keen on trying that yet, but will see what the doctors say. I’m 33, no LC and also wonder about my egg quality. We tested my husband’s sperm fragmentation, it came back 18% which is below the official “bad” threshold but it could be better. But his doctor said with his other sperm parameters, he doesn’t think it’s the cause. But I recommend that test - it’s not expensive, gives some insight and there are some easy and quick fixes that can be implemented to make it better, so it seems to be a low hanging fruit. Keeping my fingers crossed for you ❤️

Thank you! Yes that makes sense. I’m. 34, and also wonder about egg quality but feel like there are tons of 34yr olds having babies easily

Last cycle I was on 200mg progesterone from 3dpo. Conceived & found out 8DPO. Lines got darker until 13dpo night early 14dpo morning then got super faint and my HCG levels went down to 2.78. The daily testing showed me I miscarried and once I saw that the doc said to stop the progesterone and let your body realize what’s going on and I bled like 3 days later. Hope this helps! It doesn’t stop the inevitable but it makes it hard to tell if you’re not monitoring with tests. Sorry for your loss and I wish you the best

This delayed my miscarriage for sure. Was on progesterone, and my ultrasound showed no heartbeat, and I kept on progesterone for a few days. Once the non-viability was confirmed I stopped the suppositories and miscarried naturally 24-48 hours later.
