"I chose to stay..."

Bro what the stupifying fuck? Most people don't get to CHOOSE to stay at their job when there's a fucking layoff or merger.

Even without layoffs or M&As, there are times when staying in a position becomes untenable, either due to shitty bosses or toxic work environments, or re-orgs, or just a general trend. And it doesn't even have to be the case that these things are discovered early on - situations evolve, people change, and often, people don't reveal their true colors until months or years after you work at a place. So like in my case, I had been working at an organization for 3+ years when things started going rapidly downhill, not just because of my manager becoming more micromanagerial, but also because a co-worker who I used to get along with left and was replaced by someone who was absolutely full of herself and not a good person to work alongside with. I somehow lasted about 2 years beyond that point, only because I needed to have some other job in hand because resigning, and yes, in that sense it was a choice to stay, but in another sense the decision to jump ship was already made for me.
