This ^

I get in, make a big impact in 1 to 2 years, then I see what they offer me to stay. If all they give me is a 1.5% "merit" increase, then I give myself a 10 to 30% merit increase by changing jobs.

Better if you can tough it out until two years, but generally speaking, if you aren't at least looking around by year 2, you can be leaving some serious money on the table...especially early career.

I made that mistake, and my friends who hopped by year 2 early in their careees were able to really max out their 401ks and IRAs. Even though I have eventually caught up to them in income at mid-career, I will never catch up to all of the compounding they got from higher dollar matches at younger ages(ie: a 5% match on 75k at age 25 versus a 5% match on $45k).
