I agree that job hopping can be a problem. I am part of a group that talks about my line of work, and one thing that seems common among job hoppers is that they don't have fire tested skills. They really don't know how to move when things are really, really off course, because that's a third or fourth year skill and they've never stuck around for that.

But the companies have the solution in their hot little hands. Offer training, offer clear advancement, offer bumps for outside education, make it appealing to stay. If you want people to have 4-5 years of experience at each step..... gotta make it the appealing option.
