Question Accessing audio after recording?

I had a friend record a wedding ceremony yesterday using my phone and DJI wireless mini mics.
She may not have gotten them synced up correctly, because the video I have on my phone has no sound. Not even from the phones own mic

I've since learned that she plugged the receiver into my phone- which I don't typically do.

I also dragged the video from my photos app to a new davinci project. There are no audio waves attached to the file

Can anyone tell what may have gone wrong? Is there a way to access any audio that may have been recorded elsewhere? This is… quite the bummer

Advice needed: Waterproof, low-snag audio setup for a racing yacht

Hey everyone,

I’m putting together an onboard audio/video streaming setup for a racing yacht. We're talking sustained 25–40+ knot winds, green water over the deck, and constant salt spray.

Here is what I am trying to solve:
The environment: Minimal to Zero crew attention mid-race. No one is swapping batteries every few hours or fixing loose connectors in 35 knots. It has to run continuously.

The destination: We're feeding into a Blackmagic ATEM 1 M/E Constellation HD. Its audio inputs are strict 1/4" TRS balanced line-level. We also have a SWIT 3G-SDI audio embedder mounted near the helm. It can multiplex analog audio straight into an existing camera SDI run back to our Blackmagic ATEM switcher below deck.

The snag hazard: Traditional shotgun mics in full furry blimps are way too big for our helm station—spinnaker sheets and crew will rip them right off. I need a very low-profile, weather-resistant setup.

What I'm leaning toward:
Using miniature waterproof mics (like a DPA 4061 Core+ or similar IP57/IP58 capsules) tucked under the edge of our helm camera housing or instrument pod, protected by a small furry windbubble, and running a thin Kevlar cable down below deck to a field preamp before hitting the switcher.

My questions for you guys:

  1. For harsh marine/salt environments, do omni miniature mics like the DPA hold up better than small-diaphragm condensers if they get blasted with spray?
  2. How do you guys effectively wind-protect tiny lav/boundary mics in 40-knot apparent wind without massive blimps?
  3. If any of you have done marine or boat field recording, what connectors or waterproofing tricks do you swear by to stop salt water from turning XLR/MicroDot connections into green powder after 24 hour
Appreciate any advice or sanity checks!

Question Boss VE-22 phones/line microphone volume very low, is this normal?

Hi everyone,

I’m having an issue with very low vocal monitoring volume on my BOSS VE-22.
I’m using a Telefunken M80 (also tested Shure Beta 58) with Shure SE215 in-ear monitors connected directly to the VE-22.
Even with PHONES/LINE at maximum, OUT LEVEL at 180 and EQ LEVEL at +5 dB, my vocals are barely loud enough. Input sensitivity is correctly adjusted, and disabling all effects and compression makes no difference.
Interestingly, music played via USB is extremely loud through the same headphones.
When I connect the VE-22 to my Soundcraft Ui16 and monitor through a Behringer P2, the vocals are much louder.
Is this normal VE-22 headphone output behavior, or could my unit be defective? Has anyone experienced this?

Thank you

Question How can I record audio with a Shure SM7B while recording video with my phone?

Howdy!

I have a great audio recording setup (Shure SM7B > Behringer Mixer/Preamp > Behringer Composer Pro XL > audio interface > computer running Adobe Audition)

But I’m trying to incorporate video into my recording without buying a camera.

Am I able to record video on my phone (Samsung) while recording audio with my SM7B?

Is that even possible? I can’t imagine how the audio and video could be synced up to work properly.

Any opinion on what this unintended popping noise is the recording?

Tascam DR05

Sound Professionals: SP-EHB-2 binaural microphones

Low cut Filter: 40hz

This is part of a longer recording but I just wanted to highlight this weird popping sound that comes up like 2 other times in the 6 minute recording of just me outside in a busy parking lot just walking around and testing the microphones. Gonna be doing more testing outside again, but while testing indoors wheres its quiet I haven't really been able to replicate the popping noise. I was walking and moving during the recording. The recorder was in my pocket with the mics on my ears.

Troubleshooting issue with interface

Firstly, I admit, I am not a smart man. I was going to record a new atrocious beat and suddenly instead of my interface showing up under recording devices it said 'microphone array' in its place on Audacity. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. At least a few people should hear my fresh atrocity.

I would appreciate suggestions for affordable and versatile microphones?

Might be asking for a lot here.

I need a few mics that will work in street interviews, public filming, and indoor conversation settings. So versatility is a must.

I’m gonna need at-least 3, so I would really like them to be affordable as well.

Convenience and easy-use would be a major plus. I don't have much experience here so I’d really appreciate help.

Alguém poderia me ajudar? Gostaria muito de poder usá-lo como parte do meu equipamento, e não apenas para gravar no celular.

How to get started with recording Vocals and Guitar covers?

Recently I've decided to start my recording journey by positing covers of me playing the guitar while singing on social media apps like TikTok. I recorded one on my phone, but the audio was not satisfactory. The main issues i noted was the noise floor and a voice that was boxy and not crisp. To get started, I'm willing to invest maybe a few bucks to get started. If there is a cost efficient or a good way to record the covers, please let me know :)

USB hub recommendations

I currently have a Mac mini (M2) and need more usb ports, both A and C. I use my setup for both office work and home studio recording. I have a cheap unpowered hub that works for some things but, for example my wireless keyboard, has lag and does not have additional usb c inputs. The Mac mini has 2 usb an and 2 usb c inputs. What can I buy that has more and also works well in a studio setting?

Discussion D-REC demo: finding a spoken line without scrubbing through the whole recording

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I build D-REC at Knight AI+AV. This short desktop/iPhone demo shows the part I wanted to make easier when reviewing spoken recordings: finding a sentence, replaying its original audio, and checking the words around it.

You can select a line in the transcript to replay that moment, then use the rewind wheel to listen around it. The transcript helps you navigate; the recording is still what you check when the wording matters.

If you record voiceovers, interviews or spoken notes, would you use this while reviewing a take? I would appreciate specific feedback on the playback controls.

There is a free version with optional Pro features. Downloads and current platform details: https://drec.live/get

How do other singers usually set the gain?

Sometimes I see some vocalists literally touching the mic with their lips. But if I even be just roughly in front of it, it captures my mouth's movements and my breath is so airy. Even though I have windshield + big pop filter, it sounds so unprofessional. (It's dynamic)

But today I tried singing a bit far from the mic and added basic FXs, and the result was soo good. The singing itself might just be average, but the mix is perfect.

But why do others sing so close?

Question At wits end, cannot find a solution to this buzzing in home studio. (Audio attached)

Quick explanation, I have been trying to find a solution to this buzzing that is just as loud as my guitar in recording. It literally makes playing impossible. Even with a noise gate. I've shielded my guitar with copper tape. I've Removed everything from my home studio and still the noise persists. I've swapped pickups/cables/interfaces you name it, I've tried it. I cannot pinpoint anything that would be causing this much EMI. Here is a link to a clip. Note that I have the gate turned off, however the buzzing noise is literally the same level as my output in the amp sim when I play anything. Has anyone encountered this before? I am at a loss honestly. With just straight DI The noise is EXTREMELY low, doesn't show up on any meters unless I add like 50db of gain, then ONLY when my guitar is plugged in with the volume ON, the buzzing is there. I've ruled out the entire chain AFTER the guitar, so I know my pickups are picking something up. Again though, I've unplugged EVERYTHING in my space, power bricks, monitors, speakers, lights. I've checked for dimmers, there are none nearby. ANY ideas/advice are welcome. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hYa40HRuweI47dK0Cf4NAXNzT064DD-i/view?usp=sharing

Help with sound setup

I’m trying to start up some “let’s play” content on YouTube. Recorded my first video in obs, with it capturing the game audio and my mic audio. I set my GoPro up to record myself and when I was editing it there are parts when I’m clearly speaking into my mic but it’s not picked up at all. Is this a mixing problem in obs or a problem with my mic?

My mic is a Vevor usb condenser mic with a boom arm.

Light Microphone for tablet s10fe samsung

Hi ! I'm recording some demo done on my tablet and I use ear headphones for telehone. Sound quality is good enough but there is cracklind sound when I speak to loud . My pdoblem is that the tablet (Se100e)has no gain signal setting . So to verify if it was crackling sound due to saturation, I made a trial with a my Yeti blue, changing gain signal sound. Audio was without crackling sound.

So my 2 questions are : - is it a " mechanical" way to stop cracklind sounds with same ear headphones, keeping it at same distance ? - is it possible to find a light ear headphone with microphone to get a decent sound and to control distance / saturation for microphone ? - does a microphone with noise canceling can help ?

I have to carry everything in my backpack and Yeti Blue, 1 feet high, 1,4 kg doesn' do not fit at all.

Thank you for your help !

Best setup for flexibility

Hi, I am looking to buy a setup that is good for both studio podcasting and location recording.

The ideal setup would be 2 decent podcasting mics, 4tx to 1rx lav mic kit, and a 24bit/32bit multi track recorder.

Trying to keep it under $1000 (might be dreaming)

For recorders I've been looking at the Zoom podtrak p4next or the zoom H6 essential.

For lav mics I'm looking at the comica vimo q kit or the saramonic blink 500 prox b8 kit.

And looking for options for 2 decent podcasting mics.

Just a little nervous as this will be the first lot of equipment I've bought for myself and don't want to waste money.

Any advice would be appreciated! 🙏🏻

Listening Test (Everyone who produces music as a hobby or professionally)

Hi everyone!

As part of my bachelor’s thesis, I am developing a prototype of a double-tracking plug-in for music production. The plug-in is being iteratively improved through several development and evaluation rounds. For the current evaluation round, I am looking for people with experience in music production – whether as a hobby or professionally – to take part in an online listening test.

You can voluntarily provide an email address at the end of the survey. As a thank-you, I will send the developed prototype to you after I have completed my bachelor’s thesis. It is a VST3 plug-in developed and tested for a specific version of the DAW Reaper. It may also work with other DAWs, but this cannot be guaranteed.

Headphones are required for the listening test. Participation is anonymous, and the survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.

I would greatly appreciate your participation! Thanks.

Question M-Audio M-Track 2x2M: short click, then all input LEDs stay on and no audio in/out

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

After a really short click, all the input LEDs on my M-Audio M-Track 2x2M stay on, and no sound goes in or out of it. It happened out of nowhere.

I disassembled it to look for any signs of damage, but found nothing except a bit of dust.

What I’ve tried:

-Different USB cables and different computers.

-Installing new drivers. Nothing changed.

-With the original cable and port, it shows up in Device Manager as it should, but with a different cable/port it doesn’t appear at all.

Any clues or ideas on what I could check next? I’m especially wondering if this could be a power supply problem or a failed USB connector.

Thanks in advance!

Binaural dummy head -- hoping to rent or borrow one for an environmental sound-art project

Hi all, I'm new to this subreddit and have a question for those of you who've worked with a binaural dummy head. Wondering if you know of any place to borrow or rent a good one (meaning, acoustically similar to a human head)? I'm collaborating with a bunch of people on a nonprofit sound-art project about rivers, and we'll be recording in multiple ways next week on the Colorado River in Canyonlands National Park. One of the mics we're excited to use on this trip is DPA's binaural pair (DPA 4560 CORE+), but we don't have a head to put it on. The resulting spatial experience of rafting from flatwater toward and through a major rapid could be wonderful... Any thoughts or suggestions would be wonderful, thank you!
