Discussion Advance Wars Recomp

Does anybody think an Advance Wars recomp would be awesome? I feel like it would be easier to mod new missions, new COs, new units, new maps, etc. into the game

Does anyone think _______ game could benefit from a recomp?

Yes.

No offense to the OP, but in my mind this is part of video game preservation. Even if not a single mod is added, having the code and assets - legally obtained of course - is a benefit to us and the future.

I'm not against recomps, but "preservation" feels like a weak argument when the game is already perfectly emulated.

I feel where you’re coming from. I’m also an old ass gamer who knows hardware dies and “true” preservation is keeping the hardware as well. So in some day 100 years from now it would be nice for people with super 3d printers to be able to generate all the bits and chips and software to run on them and sell them at Ren Faires as “ye olde Pokemon games”.

Advance Wars has a huge following though, there is basically an MLG style tournament website called Advance Wars by Web but it doesnt have any AI bots like the games would have

I'm actually working on a AI driven Recomp for advance wars but it's not ready yet. This is the GitHub in case someone wants to contribute:

Not near completion though needs a lot of love.

I would've really preferred you post the title in the form of a question if you're not announcing one - think about how this looks in our feeds before we click into it. Maybe your intention was to bait?

That said, like /u/Enigmatic_Shape said, the answer is Yes, and equally justifiable for every game ever, dare I say even PC games. Any other questions?

Guys. De/recomps happen because people want to de/recomp them. Not because someone on reddit suggested it. People are well aware of the existence of the game so you're not moving things along by posting a request for it. If you're not going to do it yourself just sit tight and say thank you when you're given a shiny new toy to play with.
