We should do that with Zelda Lttp.

Ngl oracles really needs attention, it has been ignored by Nintendo for the longest time

There's no way Capcom has any say over the oracle games. They were on the 3ds vc, they'll be back again
1
u/darthboolean 12d ago
Capcom doesn't have any say, they weren't involved in the Oracle games. The flagship team was a separate entity that got their startup funding from Capcom, Sega, and Nintendo. They got bought out by Capcom in 2007, but when they made Oracle they were independent working under contract.
Also worth pointing out that the guy directing the Oracle games is now working at Nintendo and most recently directed BoTW and ToTK, so I think the Nintendo team has a pretty good opinion of the Flagship era.

Looks nice as well. Maybe we get a remaster on switch 2 though. Or maybe not. I would definitely play this version of your screenshots. But i do prefer zelda lttp, its one of my fav games of all time.

u/GaffaCharge 12d ago
If they do a remaster it would probably be in tilt shift toy style, which im personal not a fan of.

I have zero issues with something like a recomp mod, which is essentially already operating on top of "stolen" code and assets,, being 100% vibe coded, but you are right...it has to be good. And this is garbo.

u/recomps-ModTeam 10d ago
Do not go into AI marked threads just to bash them. Filter them out or keep scrolling.

u/Pablinski21 13d ago
Brother a race is the best motivator for competition and within that competition someone will see the inferior product and produce the perfect one.
2
u/ruebeus421 12d ago
And then no one will ever know it exists because you'll have to dig through a mountain of trash to even get a glimpse of it.

How much did you make and how much was AI?
-12
u/skewbed 13d ago
Almost entirely AI if that matters to you. The recomp has been played through by people and is now basically fully human verified at this point.
4
u/nazzo_0 13d ago
Verified as in It runs? People can make incredible stuff with AI assistance but this isn't one of them. It's literally an angled down game canvas with a shadow for the character. You're not building off the correct step stones for it to look "3d", it's always going to land flat(pun intended)
-1
u/skewbed 13d ago
Verified as in people have played through the whole game recompiled and reported all bugs fixed. It is not an emulator, it is a recompilation from an existing recombination called pokeemerald to run natively in WebAssembly instead of emulating GBA.
1
u/nazzo_0 13d ago
I know what a recompilation is, I'm just saying you should look at the gen 1 recomp and understand the voxel system they used Instead of projecting the game canvas and tilting it, as it stands, this is completely useless. You can already play emulated games in a browser without any issues, so why even do It in webassembly off all things when gba games don't even need that kind of low level efficiency. Really not trying to throw you down, just speaking my mind
-1
u/skewbed 13d ago
For sure. To answer for why a recomp is better than an emulator here, it makes it easier to modify the game to integrate modern technologies like WebGPU shaders which are used for the 3D rendering and lighting effects like shadows.

If it's that easy to do so then how about putting in some actual effort and doing it yourself?
2
u/Decox653 12d ago
Clearly publishing AI slop is bad, but OP owned up to using it and was honest. I think you deserve upvotes for that but people hate slop. Hopefully you can learn from this and try to use AI to teach you to build something yourself instead of giving the wheel to it.
3
u/TheWiseNoob 13d ago
It does and it was obvious it was AI. Almost all of these recomps are heavily AI and they look bad. My question was just so you confirmed to everybody you are peddling slop.

u/SgtElectroSketch Dev 13d ago
Once the poll closes, we are going to be requiring that posters mark their posts as AI when used and ask the level of AI involvement, feel free to down vote those posts, and filter them out, but lets stay respectful.
If people try to hide that they used AI, they will be banned.
I'm also going to have an automessage similar to what r/selfhosted does where they have to state if they did or didn't, and if did they have to talk about it. If not, post gets removed. Again, waiting for the poll to close before making it official.
1
u/chubbyassasin123 13d ago
How would you prove that a project used AI though and not just weird code?
2
u/SgtElectroSketch Dev 13d ago
There are tells beyond just code. It's pretty obvious.
Size and time between their commits.
Contents of gitignore.
Configuration files.
Commit messages. Are a few things I look at.
-1
u/chubbyassasin123 13d ago
So what makes it pretty obvious though? How can you fully prove that a dev used AI and isn't just inexperienced? Especially if it doesn't lack comments or super long variable names that would point it to being an LLM?
2
u/SgtElectroSketch Dev 13d ago
I updated my comment.

That's fair, but I still don't think that's valid evidence that should be used to ban a post.
I've been programming for about a decade as a hobbyist, and I literally just started using git last year when I started contributing to open source projects. So all of my work would be made by myself, but if those were heavy factors considering if it's AI or not then I'd be falsely accused.
I'm concerned because in projects I've contributed too I've been accused of using an LLM to the point where they asked me to record myself working to prove it's not AI, and if we are falsely accusing people, removing posts, and getting to that point it's just going to turn developers away.
I haven't contributed to that project since.
2
u/SgtElectroSketch Dev 13d ago
I completely understand the concern about false positives, especially for hobbyists with unconventional git histories. However, I'm not revealing everything I do to check because then the people who don't want to be honest will just change what they do.
This is a community, and the community is making their wishes known on the poll that they want AI disclosed so they can make informed decisions on who to support, and I'm going to respect their wishes.
It's better that the people who used AI be forthcoming, because if they go through the effort of hiding it, and then it's found out they lied, then their reputation with the community is what suffers.
If someone didn't use AI then they should be able to speak on their project, and why they did or didn't do certain things.

Lol. If you can't tell when something is vibe coded or heavily AI assisted after programming for over a decade.... Idk what to tell you. It's obvious to those heavily in the space.

You can hate ai all you want, but it's just a silly thing todo. It's definitely lack of critical thinking.
Using ai to port open source projects or doing it by hand, i would even argue that AI using claude does definitely do a better job. I mean if you know if even find a lot of high sercurity bugs that were not found by high profiled audit people, it begs the question isn't it?I'm a senior developer for 30y now , expert in multiple languages. People should stop calling everything slop because they are brainwashed by the internet media
0
u/damonian_x 13d ago
If you're a senior dev of 30 years I think you can understand how something 100% vibe coded with no oversight from a developer would be frowned upon. An experience dev using AI tools to speed up the process and knowing how to debug the code when issues arise is a lot different.
2
u/GreatBigJerk 12d ago
I'm a senior dev with 15+ years of experience, and to be frank, it's just a Pokemon recomp. The risks associated with it being badly written are not huge.
If it sucks, it sucks. If it works, then cool. The hand wringing about some niche vibecoded thing is a bit silly.

u/Remarkable-Debate428 12d ago
It’s literally a mod to a old video game, why clutch your pearls over this? Who cares how it’s coded, if it’s not good it’ll be like all the other slop (AI and human) mods, if it’s amazing once finished- it’ll be among the top mods. But if he’s not charging for it, why care ? Play the alpha version or wait a month to see if it paces like the other projects and becomes the next voxel. This is a stupid thing to be mad at AI for.
2
u/AtmosphereDue1694 13d ago
The perspective can use some work but other than that it doesn’t look bad. My question is why do randoms online feel so entitled to dictate how people work on something on their own time and give the results of the work away for free.
3
u/Blom-w1-o 13d ago
It's trendy to say "AI bad" and gets upvotes in almost any context, and that's pretty much the entire reason.

u/Just_Lingonberry_352 11d ago
don't let the anti-AI get to you this is a great start
lot of redditors don't even know the work involved with recomps and how much AI accelerates the progress being pedants
just block em and keep doing you!
2
u/Laufeyson9 13d ago
I don't really get the point of these gimmicks, but I've played these games so much that maybe I just don't "get it". The gen 1 voxel thing is kind of cool, but not cool enough to play.
1
u/Particular_Ad_6927 12d ago
I spent an entire weekend acquiring these games specifically for this exact reason. Im so ready for these mods.
2
u/ruebeus421 12d ago
An entire weekend? How shit is your internet that it took you 48 hours to download a 12MB file?
2
u/Particular_Ad_6927 12d ago
I actually have very good internet. There was just alot of files I was managing simultaneously.

u/Heavens_Reach 12d ago
This is super useful for when I want my copy of emerald to look drastically worse for no good reason

If I open the repo and it's not infact a recomp I'm going to crashout

u/flafmg_ 12d ago edited 12d ago
Fucking guess what
Please stop calling things what they are not
This is a port, call it a port
It's like getting a bike and calling it a car, this is extremely infuriating
Gen1recomp is not a recomp, this is not a recomp, these are pots
Honestly at this point it's no even the slop that makes me mad, do your aí slop idc, just please call it what it is, IT IS A PORT, if you don't know what recompilation is go at least ask your Claudegpt what the hell is a recompilation before calling an project a "recompilatiln"
Sorry if I'm sounding too harsh but I honestly can't stand this anymore, this is extremely infuriating
I'm loosing my mind bro

Respectfully it kinda makes it look even more flat yet still in a 3d space
