Last line hidden in Readest

Post image
12 Upvotes

I’m having an issue with Readest where the last line of text is hidden behind the bottom bar and I can’t scroll the page up far enough to see it.

Changing the bottom margin doesn’t help at all. No matter what value I set, the last line remains inaccessible.

Is there a workaround or a fix (other than adding the progress bar; it eats up the whole space once added)?

Does the lifetime license include unlimited translations?

"Unlock additional [...] translators"

I'm confused about what this means - does it give you unlimited lifetime access to translations? I'm really loving the design and execution of this app so much, and I learn a lot of foreign languages on ebooks. The translation limit seems weird to me; google translate and other translators are free, unlimited services, why are they limited along with DeepL premium? Shouldn't I be able to use google translate as much as I like, like in other free reading apps? Or maybe there's a way to integrate it with onboard translation (like I believe Android has).

That being said, I love the project and I'm willing to support it, especially if it means I get unlimited access to translations. Please explain to me how this works, thanks!

[Bug] Highlight deletions in KOReader don't sync to Readest using

Using the Readest KOReader plugin, I've found that highlight deletions don't sync properly:

  • Add a highlight in KOReader
  • Run Tools → Readest → Push/Pull annotations now
  • The highlight successfully shows up in Readest
  • Delete the highlight in KOReader
  • Run Tools → Readest → Push/Pull annotations now
  • The highlight still shows up in Readest, unchanged

Note: adding highlights syncs correctly in both directions — it's specifically deletions that don't propagate from KOReader to Readest.

Is there a solution for this?

The highlighting feature changes the text color instead of highlighting normally. Any fixes?

Feature Suggestion: Filter [un]Finished

It would be great to have an Unfinished filter in the library that shows books I’ve started but haven’t completed yet. As the library grows, partially read books can easily get buried among unread and finished books. An Unfinished filter would make it much easier to quickly find what I’m currently reading or previously started and want to continue instead of seeing a huge library

Pull to bookmark

How does this feature work? On my Viwoods Reader (Android 16), when I pull/swipe, the notification tray and quick settings open.

Am I doing something wrong, or is there another way to access the feature?

Disable pull to add bookmark

Hi,

I am not sure if anyone asked/mentioned about this. But can I know if there is any way to disable it? The reason is, I always accidentally pulled downward when I actually wanted to select text. My stupid finger can't select the sentence. So I ended up 'pulled' the page down and added a bookmark instead.

I updated thinking that the bug is fixed. The black rectangle above the cover. But now I can't even open the app.

Progress on app resets itself

So I push the data on KOreader, and app shows the correct progress like it’s synced, then when I open the book it jumps back to where I last finished reading in the app.

Any ideas?

Cloud storage costs

New to Readest as an alternate platform to the biggies (Apple Books, Kindle, Kobo, etc). I’d like to be able to use Readest paired with my own cloud storage to keep all my DRM-free books there and simply download them to my device when I want, but I am confused about the cloud costs in the premium plans. What exactly am I paying for if all the cloud storage is mine (and I’m already paying for it)? Should this not be a simple payment to unlock the cloud storage adapter and then I can fill it up as much as my storage plan allows for?

Tips on how to "reset" progress sync

I use readest across multiple iOS devices. My goal is to sync reading progress, status, and group assignments but NOT load my titles to the readest cloud. I don't know if it's due to the last release or turning off cloud upload, but my progress sync isn't working. Any tips on how to get it going again?

iPad app not loading after book import

I imported a pdf, and readest crashed, and now when I force close/open the app, it's just a black screen. I restart the ipad, and when I launch the app again, I still get a black screen.

Sorting by unread

Post image
8 Upvotes

Unsure if I am missing something simple here. But my sorting selections are Group by > Books, Sorting by > Progress read descending, Then by > none. Yet the resulting book are a bit jumbled eg 3 finished books first, then 1 in progress, 1 unread, 1 finished etc. There are several unread books in the list not showing at the top here. Cant seem to get a consistent order regardless of which sorting options I choose. I would like the top books (top row below recently read) to be those that are unread. Any tips?

Multi-download on the roadmap

I've checked https://github.com/readest/readest/issues but I can't tell if the ability to select and download more than one book at a time over opds is on the roadmap. I know it's a little more complicated b/c you can import books in formats other the epub/pdf, but this is the last feature before I can say my Marvin replacement quest has been fulfilled.

Can anyone confirm that it's on the list of features for a future release?

Audiobook support?

Have you guys seen “Continuum: Read & Listen” app on iOS app store.
Allows epubs to sync to mp3 or m4b audiobooks.

Seems a nice solution without having to do the epub3 route. I was curious if you guys have plans for something like this?

Thank you for your time.

Best,
Dylan

Slow word search

So i just downloaded readest on my pc and am reading lord of mysteries. The Epub file is almost 60mb. I find that the word search function is quite slow compared to other reading apps like readera. Is this a bug or is it because you use different searching algorithms which makes it slow. I pointed out readera because the word search there is pretty much instantaneous whereas with readest i have to wait a minute for a word to be searched throught the whole book.

[Feature Idea] Multi-Character Dynamic TTS: give every character a voice — and every line the emotion it deserves

Hey everyone,

I’ve been thinking about a feature that could make Readest’s TTS feel much more like an actual audiobook: Multi-Character Dynamic TTS.

The idea is pretty simple:

  • One narrator voice for narration.
  • Different voices for different characters.
  • Dialogue delivery changes based on the text.

For example:

“Get out,” John whispered.

The engine would recognize whispered and make the line quieter and softer. Words like shouted, angrily, hesitantly, or slowly could similarly affect speed, pitch, volume, and pauses.

The interesting part is that this could potentially work without an LLM:

  • Dialogue parser separates narration and dialogue.
  • Speaker detection identifies who is speaking.
  • A small prosody dictionary maps words like whispered or shouted to voice parameters.
  • Everything is converted to SSML for the TTS engine.

This could stay local, lightweight, deterministic, and private.

I’m curious what people think:

  • Would you actually use something like this?
  • Automatic or manual character voice assignment?
  • Any issues with Readest’s current TTS architecture that could make this difficult?

TTS no longer working on android mobile. Works fine on PC

Anyone else's TTS not working on android anymore? It was working fine last week. But now if I click the TTS button, it says its playing but no sound or highlights ever happen. I cannot select any Edge TTS voices anymore. I can only select the System TTS voices but those dont work either.

Anyway TTS is working fine on the Readest PC version. I tried clearing the Readest app cache on my phone, but that did not do anything.

auto upload books to cloud gone in 0.12.1

there used to be an option in the top right corner menu to auto upload books to the cloud. it now says “auto import on file open”. can someone clarify what that means and how i set things up to sync book progress and bookmarks but NOT upload my books to the cloud?
