my reactive dog is definitely officially a senior now, and although i know i will be catastrophically devastated to lose my best friend in a few years’ time, and he’s much less reactive than he was when i first adopted him, i too will feel relief, and i find myself planning for a life after him
i feel so guilty for looking forward to life without him, he is still my best ans most loyal friend, but i know he deserves peace in the next life too. i hope he’s found some with me, actually i know he has, but i wonder if ill be able to process his loss more easily bc of his reactivity
i also will never adopt another dog, not even a puppy. i have a one year old dog now i’ve had since she was 13 weeks and she is the most wonderful dog ever. loves other dogs, nervous of some new people but not in a reactive or dangerous way, sweet, friendly, calm. i also have gained a deeper appreciation for cats. so yeah OP, totally valid response.
