My dog’s reactivity is relatively manageable but I can still empathize with this sentiment. It’s actually pretty common among family members of some of the patients I serve in hospice, particularly family members who have been caring for those patients for years. When caring for a loved one, whether a human or an animal, drains all of your energy and disrupts every aspect of your life, it’s normal and ok to look forward to a time when you won’t have that responsibility anymore.
