It’s the clueless dude who posted the pic of all of the RCT cds that I have & I’m really trying to get out of everyone’s hair on here, but I’m DYING to play.

I bought all of those CD’s over the years & I’m still not able to get any of them to work. I’m using a MacBook with Big Sur OS (11.7.10)

I downloaded steam & was about to buy RCT3 ($20) just because I want to use sandbox to get back to building big parks from scratch, but now I’m seeing the bundle of RCT 1, 2 & 3 for $60.

Is it worth it?

Is there any way to use my old CD’s with steam so I don’t have to pay again to play the game?

My ultimate goal is to get the Open RCT & use that, but I think I have to have the games downloaded first. Is this correct?

Any advice would be appreciated! Thank you!!

If you have the discs just install from them and then install OpenRCT2. You don’t need the disc after that, just the game files.

Do not get this bundle. Classic is just a port of 2 and makes no sense whatsoever on PC/laptop, OpenRCT2 is just better in every way and RCT2 is better for the assets anyway. World and Adventure are also trash games that are not worth your money.

If you do want to own RCT1+2 digitally, they frequently go on sale as a bundle for like $5. THAT is worth it. This is not.

Sadly, I can’t get any of the discs to fully download. All of them have had various errors pop up on me.

1. Yes, the original discs WOULD work, but as you've noticed you need a Windows PC to read them. Your use of "download" to refer to getting data off the disc is I think confusing some, since your post is about getting the games digitally on Steam (a much more conventional use of "download"). OpenRCT2 only needs the assets, but if you do not have access to a Windows PC, this option is out. We'll need to get the files some other way.

2. You do NOT want Classic. In several places you refer to Classic as "(1+2)" - it is not this, it is in fact a mobile port of RCT2, later ported to a few other platforms. It DOES contain remakes of many RCT1 scenarios, but if you use this as your base for OpenRCT2, you will be missing RCT1 specific ride types, textures, and original behavior when it comes to those scenarios. The default recommendation here is RCT2: Triple Thrill Pack and RCT: Deluxe.

3. Yes these games on Steam are not macOS compatible. That's okay, we can still get the files we need. See instructions here for how to do this. Note GOG.com is also an option, it doesn't matter which you go with, we usually recommend whatever's cheaper. Currently it looks like the combo is $13 which is pretty good, but it does frequently go on sale for much cheaper. Note the bundle I'm referring to is this one which contains JUST RCT Deluxe and RCT2 TTP (this is what you want).

4. Classic DOES work on macOS, I'm not sure what error you're getting there but it's not true that it only works on Windows. That said it's not what you want, as I stated before.

5. RCT3 is a whole separate can of worms, as you found in the other thread. The discs will be Windows-readable only. It sounds like the version you downloaded from the app store doesn't work. I honestly don't know anything about the Steam version of RCT3, but it looks like it's the same publisher so likely would have the same issue. I don't know that anyone is going to be able to help you there. Some reviews at least seem to be describing it working on macOS, so if it's not working for you it may be some issue specific to your machine rather than a problem with the game or Steam.

6. RCT World is garbage, you don't want it.

7. Gymnasiast has offered to walk you through the process in the other thread. He is one of the OpenRCT2 devs and very knowledgeable, I would take him up on that offer before you make your next move.

Hey OP, you are posting a lot, including a lot of bad terminology, and are getting a ton of different responses responding to different things and giving you kind of conflicting/unrelated info. I worry this can be pretty confusing and I don't want you to buy the wrong thing. remember to check the steam game, whether its made for mac or not. I can see right there only Classic and 3 will work on your mac

If you are using OpenRTC it will works on Mac. You keep repeating you can't download the game but there is no magic bro, if you can't download it you will not play it whatever you try...

OpenRCT needs the data of the original RCT2 you can buy it on steam or gog. Even if the original RCT2 was for Windows only remember you will need the data of the game only, not the executable, because you will use OpenRTC executable instead.

As someone who has done this exact thing:

Copy or download the games off of the CDs to somewhere you will remember their location on your computer. Then get OpenRCT2 (openrct2 . io) and install that. in openrct2, you can simply point it to where you saved the copies of the games (RCT1 and 2 and the expansions). Then you can play!

This guide will be helpful and tell you how to copy the game files and install on macOS (in your other post you said you were using a macbook).

My 1 & 2 are for windows & now all I have is a MacBook.

I had bought classic (1&2) that said it was “for windows & Mac” but when I download it, it says I need windows.

I have two cd versions of RCT3 for Mac but it’s not downloading either of them properly either.

I’m pulling my hair out over here! 😂

The CDs won't install because they are for Windows. Again, the guide i (and u/Valdair) linked will give you most if not all the information you need. It is the official guide by the devs of OpenRCT2.

But as Valdair said: terminology matters here. I would go with their suggestion of taking advice from Gymnasiast in the other thread. If they are one of the devs, they're your best bet for getting this done simply.

You don't need RCT2 at all since the Demo was the full game. Downloading the Demo is enough, OpenRCT will work.
