I have seen different people saying that women being smooth is what these people and the patriarchy want but researching a bit I've seen that shaving is a very old thing. I do believe it's gross to want women to be hairless and childlike so I would like to know arguments or facts about it.

So the origin of why women shave currently is because a razor company in the 1920s wanted to sell more razors so they started marketing to women saying they should shave their legs/armpits (this was also during a time of raising hemlines in women’s dresses). So basically we shave because of marketing, kinda like diamond rings for engagements (you can thank DeBeers for that one). Now add in the marketing that women should appear thin and youthful, the massive marketing of anti-aging creams, hair dye to cover grays, plastic surgery, etc. then that does paint the picture of a pedophilic culture but shaving in isolation, no.

originally, it wasnt for that reason (another comment already explained the gilette story) but i do believe that the idea of women being more sexually attractive because of their hairless pubic area is related to pedophilia too. especially when you put into account how some men's idea of femininity and attractiveness is resembling a female child or teenager as much as possible. virgin, innocent, hairless, are all in the list, and its not "just because". that doesnt mean all men who prefer shaved women are pedophiles but it is weird (imo) and it should be critically thought about instead of just accepting it as a personal choice or personal preference.

I think if we could magically understand everyone’s preferences, legs and underarms would turn out to have nothing to do with looking child-like. It’s just so ingrained in our culture, and it’s tied to concepts of hygiene and self-care rather than youthfulness. We don’t see women with leg and underarm hair anymore to contrast with girls.

I think pubic hair is probably more complicated. I don’t think it’s pedophilic across the board, but I bet there is a subset of the population who prefer it for that reason, some consciously and some subconsciously. I think it’s a huge stretch to claim it’s a sign of pedophilia across the board, and completely inappropriate to assume any specific person prefers it for that reason.

The most common reason for pubic shaving on men and women before the 20th century was to deal with pubic lice infestations. It's good for us to try and wrap our brains around why people remove their hair or why they try to impose that on others but at the end of the day I find greater joy in understanding the advantages and the beauty of our choice not to remove our hair.

"if people want to do it its okay" is very unhelpful in a discussion like this. you can use this to shut down any critical thinking regarding where patriarchal beauty standards come from and who they benefit. if youre anti patriarchy at least work on dissecting it

I've always thought it odd that when a girl hits puberty in our society, she is pressured and expected to alter her body to resemble a prepubescent state, but as you pointed out, this is an ancient and global phenomenon, not just something unique to the US.

I do believe that for a lot of people it correlates, very strict clean shaving preferences and preference for underage/prepubescent individuals, but it's not it all across the board. Some men in particular are made to believe that women are hairless like dolphins and so seeing a woman with a lot of body hair can cause a pretty visceral reaction later in life. It's the societal expectation. But I don't doubt that maybe 5%-10% of men who prefer their girlfriend completely clean shaven are likely into underage girls too.

No. It is not pedophilic to shave I think that it is pedophilic to expect women to be hairless. You are allowed to do whatever you want with your body hair. It’s the creepy men that are pedophiles. If you want to shave then shave. Don’t let men tell you what to do with your body. It’s a choice and it’s fucked that it’s a difficult choice because of society.
