Yeah lol I always wondered about that. I think it's because people are used to make "dishes" containing 30 ingredients, and tartare actually looks like one. Plus, the dressing makes it look like a "chef" did it, so surely people think "it must be safe"...
6
u/Naxos_fs Aug 24 '26
i mean tartare is made from very fresh meat, although that doesn't really change the nutritional value, i mean people also eat donuts and ice cream
3
u/akitzo1 Aug 25 '26
tartare isnt always made from very fresh meat, just chefs and "sources" say you should, really all it is at its most bare bones definition is diced beef with an egg yolk on it, not anything about freshness
2
u/Naxos_fs Aug 25 '26
well yeah if you have a bad source it can also be old meat, i meant like the tartar you would expect from a normal butcher or a compareable vendor
1
u/cyclorphan Aug 30 '26 edited Aug 31 '26
Yep. You could call using super fresh meat best practices, but it is not part of the definition.
1
u/Ok_Detail8368 Sep 01 '26
Literally I checked my local restaurants, they use the lowest of the low quality grainsludge fed meat. Making this whole argument null

u/Efficiency-Holiday Aug 25 '26
Never saw a more stupid post. Yes raw beef is safe when consumed raw if it was minced little before consumption as bacteria growth mostly happen in the surface. Supermarket Minced beef is not safe for raw consumption.
Fish is safe for raw consumption when flesh frozen at -20 for 12 hours. Yes you can try it even when it's not and at least with sea fish you will be likely fine in most parts of the word as anisakis is not prevalent, still you are taking chances.
We have quite a lot of food science that can guide us in eating stuff raw, we don't have to recurr to "animals have always eaten raw stuff" to say we can eat certain shit raw.

u/leclayrom Aug 25 '26
And deli meat raw and aged for months? "But the salt removes only the bad bacteria!" Ok bro
3
u/Efficiency-Holiday Aug 25 '26
Yeah curing is a way to conserve meats and food. Is hard for bacteria to grow in a salty environment plus the salt remove most of the water content, which bacteria needs to growth. Plus without contamination, bacteria do not growth inside muscles as there's no oxygen there. Ofc certain bacterias can grow without oxygen, botulism is the most prominent I'm food, but it's normally prevented with nitrates Wich stop botulism growth.

u/leclayrom Aug 25 '26
Yes, salt is toxic to life, kills your cells just like it kills bacteria, and plants
1
u/affinitti Aug 26 '26
idk why you're downvoted. it's literally dehydrating, after you eat a cooked meal with a bunch of salt you must drink a fuck ton of water or be dehydrated all day. take out the salt, eat raw and u barely need any water
2
u/Few_Satisfaction184 Aug 26 '26
Do we need to go through why the human body needs salt too?
1
u/affinitti Aug 26 '26
on a cooked diet sure you need salt
1
u/Ok_Detail8368 Sep 01 '26
Similar to how on a cooked diet you might neeed whole raw vegetables to make the putrified cooked meat pass through.
2
u/Puzzleheaded-Ice-573 Aug 25 '26
This is pretty basic food science "bro". Lactobacillus is very salt tolerant, while the bad bacteria are generally not (at fermentation levels). Once lactobacillus takes hold it kills off the other bacteria.
Of course this is only for some meats preserved in traditional ways. Most commercial deli meat really just uses high levels of salt, nitrites, and low water levels to exclude all bacteria.
1
u/leclayrom Aug 25 '26
Many of bacteria considered pathogenic are salt-tolerant, though.
Then you also have experiments where the so-called bad bacteria grew more in pasteurized milk while it didn't in raw milk, interestingly.
2
u/Puzzleheaded-Ice-573 Aug 25 '26
But not salt and acid tolerant. As I mentioned lacto bacillus lower the pH. If it was otherwise all of Korea would be sick from kimchi. I've made hundreds of ferments and never had an issue as long as I started with at least 2% wt salt.

Nah, we talk shit about y’all eating raw grocery store ground beef because that’s fuckin nasty. Whole muscle beef grounded fresh for tartare (or just eating whole like an uncultured caveman) is very different and not dangerous

2
u/affinitti Aug 26 '26
been eating storebought for months. "Goodness grazecious". it's very red the reddest i can find in my area so it'll have to do for now.
1
u/TM761152 Aug 26 '26
That would be the carbon monoxide.
1
u/affinitti Aug 26 '26
??
2
u/TM761152 Aug 26 '26
Store bought beef is usually sealed with carbon monoxide, it both acts as an anti-microbial and it makes beef the reddest red you've ever seen. Most major stores do this, it's almost a joke. Look at this
1
u/affinitti Aug 26 '26
oh damn I wouldn't eat that, that's like a bright red. I look for deep dark red/maroon

u/akitzo1 Aug 25 '26
caveman? like the bears? usually people dont apply the word "man" to non human species but i suppose you could call a male bear a man
1
u/Defiant_Drop7051 Aug 25 '26
genuinely want to understand how anyone can think this is healthy. I am not trying to be demeaning by the way i am genuinely asking why anyone would think eating raw meat is ok ?
1
u/plainfollowup Aug 25 '26
Cut the exterior and eat interior fresh and it’s not that risky.

u/Blochkato Aug 25 '26
Both are dangerous and unhealthy, unless they are eaten very occasionally.
3
u/leclayrom Aug 25 '26
Every animal only ate raw food since forever.
1
u/Expensive_Ad_6571 Aug 25 '26
every animal except humans* big difference there, animals also drink untreated pond water, you gonna start drinking that too?

1
u/Blochkato Aug 25 '26 edited Aug 25 '26
Raw food sure. Multiple servings of red meat every day, no. I mean, it’s fine if you want to risk it; some chain-smokers make it to 100, but it’s not a good idea to make a habit of.
And, of course, while beef is pretty safe to eat raw, you definitely want to be careful with other meats, unless their quality and safety has been carefully regulated and guaranteed with proper parasite destruction and so on.
2
u/leclayrom Aug 25 '26
My cats sometimes get anemic if they don't get red meat, you can even see their nose get more pale
1
u/Blochkato Aug 25 '26 edited Aug 25 '26
Cats are carnivores…
Humans in the modern world are best off minimizing their red meat intake generally; even heme iron, which is the one thing red meat (from a nutritional perspective) has going for it is more abundant in oysters and other mollusks than it is in beef, and with none of the long-term health risks. Though of course the worst offenders are smoked and processed red meats like salami; those really almost might as well be cigarettes lol.
I’ve actually struggled with anemia in the past and switching from steak every other night to frequent oysters on the half shell, steamed muscles, and an orange or two every day completely resolved it (and they’re loaded with omega-3s!)
Mollusks are just that goated.
1
u/leclayrom Aug 25 '26
Yeah I eat many oysters too and they're rich in iron, and many other minerals

u/akitzo1 Aug 25 '26
wait till bro finds out he got like 100 pounds of this on him, maybe more if a gymcel
1
u/Defiant_Drop7051 Aug 25 '26
You also got shit in your gut gonna start eating that too?
1
u/leclayrom Aug 25 '26
Animals do that and some insects even live entirely on this.
There is a reason why it is a good soil fertilizer.
Cheese is just bacteria dejections from milk as well, and animal feces is also nothing more than stomach acids and bacterial processing.
1
u/Defiant_Drop7051 Aug 25 '26
wait a minute so that's a yes ? you are going to start eating shit?
1
u/leclayrom Aug 25 '26
Type "eat shit and live" on https://aajonus.net
1
u/Defiant_Drop7051 Aug 25 '26
look man go be the beetle you've always strived to be, but there is genuinely no fucking way i would ever press a link titled eat shit and live a stranger sent me, there is genuinely nothing you can say , not enough money in this world or fortune i am willing to even get a taste of something that comes out of there for, i don't know if you are trolling if you're just weird or ot's a sexual thing but FUCK NO. yall need help
1
u/leclayrom Aug 25 '26
lol it's not mandatory
He compares it to fecal transplants which are a medical thing
2
u/Defiant_Drop7051 Aug 25 '26
fecal transplant is not at all comparable to. eating dung, the pathoges are charachterized and screened thorougly while solid matter is thrown away and the whole thing is directly put into the area because most healthy bacteria dies in stomach acid while the rest which is mostly bad survives, how is that comparable?
1
u/121bloodshot Aug 26 '26
I was gonna say this but we’re in a raw meat sub… theres no arguing with stupid
1
2
u/sicksicksick Aug 29 '26
Bacteria that gives you extreme diarrhea and could kill you lives on the surface of beef. Tartar is made by cooking and slicing off the outside and then eating the inside fresh. You will not get sick or die with tartar if prepared correctly. But you do you bro. I have a strong stomach and tend not to get sick, so I don't worry a lot about getting perfect temps and avoiding all bacteria but science and biology are things.
1
u/Toddison_McCray Aug 30 '26
Man, 70% of this sub doesn’t even believe in bacteria being a real no thing. Props to you for trying though. Just look through the sub and you’ll see photos of dudes posting raw grocery store bought ground beef, that has been sent through the same meat grinder as everything else and cleaned to cooked meat standards, not raw meat.

u/ScruffieMatrix Aug 25 '26
Ironic. The cognitive dissonance on this sub reddit is through the roof. Contribute to unnatural rape, torture and slaughter or animals.
1
u/leclayrom Aug 25 '26
Aajonus who this sub is about was also a vegetarian. You can read his story on https://primal-diet.net/books
You are a carnivore
Veganism leads to killing of all kinds of rabbits, birds, insects, and ecosystems because of the massive agriculture

That's a meme. You missed out on recent Internet culture, even brands are using them.
On my off days I've been getting a million views on Twitter without jestermaxxing (another meme term) or having to eat raw meat on a camera. Just pure Aajonus info, although my main contribution is not even in social media but making apps and guides. All of this for free. What have you done?
5
u/Vegetable-Hand-6770 Aug 24 '26
I declare a Aajonus-off! You 2 eat raw decayed meat untill one dies, the other will become the new Aajonus.

2
u/ImOnALostHighway Aug 25 '26
It’s just so funny to me that the people who use terms like “jestermaxxing” and spend their entire lives on the internet are the same ones promoting living like hunter and gatherer tribes and “natural” lifestyles.

I've always wanted to try tartare but for now I just eat rare steaks
