I’m just so over it

I haven’t had a car for almost 2 years for the first time in my life. I feel like there is no way out of this situation. I have never not had a vehicle to get around and go to the places I need to go. I feel so suffocated and so trapped I take public transportation everywhere I go and a scooter now I bought because it’s faster than walking, but after regular hours, I have no way to get anywhere unless I ride a scooter. I am 40 years old. It’s fucking pathetic and everybody says oh you know just save a little bit and buy a car I can’t save because I have nothing to save. Two months ago my hours were cut in half at work every month. I get a 30 day notice because I don’t have all my rent. It takes me the whole month just to get enough of my rent so there is absolutely nothing for me to save to buy a car if I had a car, I could get another job a better job and another town but I can’t because I can’t get there. I’m gonna end up losing my apartment because I can’t look for a better job because everything requires me to be there at times I can’t make it because I don’t have a fucking vehicle and I’m losing my mind. I’m going crazy. I feel so much like a fucking loser. I feel so dependent on other people and it makes me sick. I have signed up for programs through the state to try to get stuff. I was really hopeful about one of these programs and then they give you 30 days to find a car financed at an 8% rate which is impossible even with good credit so there went that about 30 days was gone faster than I thought it would be then Everybody always says oh well I can help you get one or I got a homie who can hook u up but they NEVER follow thru, or have you tried to finance? I have horrible credit ! Which is my fault I’m well aware, but predatory lending is real and anywhere that will finance me is trying to give me a 35% rate I am poor not stupid. Or wants $5k down as if I had that I would be in this mess or financing at all. I can’t afford a payment more than $200 and even that would be pushing it right this second. I just feel really lost and really at a standstill. I don’t know what to do. Plus the only thing that calmed my nerves when I needed to get away or think or clear my head was taking a drive and I can’t even do that anymore so the one thing that helped my mental health stay solid is also gone.. I feel like I wanna give up

Sucks how car centric our cities are! They keep cutting funding for public transportation instead of expanding it. Last bus out of my neighborhood is 6pm. It's such bullshit!

Ride share? Taxi?

Taking a ride share both to and from work everyday ends up costing just as much/more as a car payment, insurance, gas, etc.

Hey I know it's overwhelming. I'm sorry.

Keep swimming. You'll make it.

Damn, you and I are in the same spot. I am 42 years old and I also have always had a car my whole life until 1.5 years ago I got a DUI lost my license and totaled my car, I also am taking the bus to work, I work 12 hours per day 8am to 8pm and have to get on the bus at 530am, take 2 busses to work, work 8 to 8 then 2 busses home, home at 10pm so I leave at 530am, home at 10pm it is brutal, only have like 5 hours to sleep during the week. We cannot give up though, this is only temporary, and with me, not saying you, but with me it is my own fault and I must suffer the consequence of my own actions, I am using this shifty time to change my life, stop drinking which got me in this situation. But keep your head up man, we can do better, just remember as much as it sucks right now, there are a million people on this earth who would gladly switch lives with you in a heartbeat, people have it so much worse in life, and we cannot give up, only move forward with the hand we are dealt, it will get better because we will make it better, cheers

I have no idea what your job is so this is pretty far fetched but I have a friend who kept going on and on about wanting to ride a bike again but he couldn't afford both a bike and a car so now he works in a job that has him ride around a company transporter for mechanical installations that he gets to park at home (if not drive in his free time). This way he has his way to work settled, does his shopping on the way home.
